In the past few years several of my male colleagues have started families. They all take paternity leave (usually for around a month, sometimes for longer) and when they come back they often expect to work a bit less. As a case in point, I was recently asked to take on extra project by a colleague who's a new father - he said he needs to spend time with his baby and can't work as much as I do.

Her lack of self-awareness is staggering.

For women in finance, the heavy workload, the high stress and the lack of sleep not only make it difficult to find a partner

Are you saying that men in finance find it equally difficult to find a partner for those reasons? Because feminists assure us that men & women are equally capable in every way, nay identical in fact, so anything that affects women must equally affect men.

but are a recipe for hormonal imbalance and infertility. The longer I work in banking, the more that I feel that I'm being made to make a choice: the ability to conceive, or the opportunity to become an MD.

OK, now you're definitely admitting that men & women are not the same. Watch out, the sisterhood will be round to re-educate you very soon.

If you're working 80 hours a week and are exhausted, conceiving a child doesn't necessarily happen as easily as you might think.

If you're working 80 hours a week how could anyone fit in time to conceive or even raise a child. Who in their right mind wants to work that much.

[–]StaysAwakeAllWeek 86 points87 points88 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Who in their right mind wants to work that much

People who currently make 6-7 figures a year and want to get that up to 8-9 before they burn out.

[–][deleted] 58 points59 points60 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

None of them are making 9 figures.

[–]topsecreteltee 56 points57 points58 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Completely manageable when being paid in Bolivars.

[–]lethrowaway4me 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or in Bezos. It's the Amazonian equivalent.

[–]AyyyyLeMeow 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I would bet money that she doesn't work nearly that much. I mean she found time to write this stupid wall of text so...

[–]syilent13 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At.most she doing 80hrs bi weekly id guess

[–]Rolten 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

and want to get that up to 8-9 before they burn out.

I don't think that's realistically attainable for anyone but CEOs. Perhaps they're looking to jump from 6 to 7 figures.

[–]zurrain 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Lots of men do. That's what she's essentially complaining about. Competing with men is making her miserable. Unfortunately, instead of taking ownership of her life and decisions she instead decides to whine and complain and blame men... as usual.

[–]Terminal-Psychosis 29 points30 points31 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Really, in any sane society, this would be considered a serious mental / emotional disorder. :(

[–]elebrin 27 points28 points29 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I have a few observations about this type of person.

First, a good chunk of people putting in these sorts of hours are rarely ACTUALLY putting in these sorts of hours. If you tossed a spy program on their computer, you'd find lots of social media use and so on. They could get rid of their time wasters and do a normal amount of productive work and not need the extra hours. They would have to use work time to work, rather than feed their social media addiction, though.

Second, the people who work these sorts of hours and aren't wasting a lot of it tend to be the people that REALLY CARE about their job. In other words, it's what they truly want to be doing and they are right exactly where they want to be. Those people will fight for the opportunity to work more. Work makes them feel productive and valuable. It gives them a reason to get up in the morning. They like the money and that's probably a big motivating factor, but the work itself and the service it provides is what fuels them.

Finally, there are a small number of people who see the folks in group one and two and think that's what they have to do to be successful, so they emulate it. Then they complain about it endlessly.

[–]Arthuyo 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

+1, also a lot of people simply round up their hours. They don't subtract out that 2-3 hour lunch. Or they start doing stuff like including their commute when coming up with the number.

[–]Crook_Lid 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Who the fuck even has 2-3 hour long lunches? That sounds so boring and such a waste of time, do people actually do this?

[–]Aivias 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I have a friend who is an investment banker in London and its basically part of his job to be a coke head. Day drinking is considered a part of the culture, spending you lunch out downing 4 pints and lunch is part of the job and when youve got a 75% chance that your boss is a massive coke head you'll be expected to be a part of that too because ingratiating yourself to a cunt with a drug problem and reasonable gambling skills is the only way youll get up the chain.

To expand, Lloyds of London have banned alcohol consumption during work hours because they are genuinely scared that some half-cut muppet is gonna go all big-balls and wipe half the GDP of some small country off the stats.

[–]Adanu0 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds like a problem with the culture in the business then anything else.

[–]degustibus 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good food, good conversation, a drink or three--it's not done everywhere, but it is enjoyable--especially when it's free.

[–]Severedheads 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

True, but why shouldn't the commute count? If it weren't for the job, you wouldn't be killing time in a car and ultimately captive to a metal prison for typically 30+ minuntes a day in the first place. I've always counted it when factoring actual pay (when comparing job opportunities).

[–]AZ_R50 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

British here, we have it worse in the UK, Labour (our left-wing party) literally bans straight man in eqaulity conferences

That American women complaining is just the tip of iceberg compared to the hell we have in the UK.

[–]Mackowatosc 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 34 points35 points36 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Men can have it all because patriarchy. Men actually get an additional ten hours a day to put towards sleep, career, family, etc.

Women, with only 24 hours, only get 70% of the time men do.

It’s almost like people can’t have everything and have to make some adult decisions about how they plan on adulting. Instead though we get people wanting all and bitching that they’re tired and don’t really get it all.

[–]originalSpacePirate 17 points18 points19 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This whole article is a woman complaining about having to make sacrifices. You know, like all adults do. But no, she has believed the feminist lie that women can have both a high powered career and start a family. Reality is a bitch.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But no, she has believed the feminist lie that women can have both a high powered career and start a family.

She can, she just needs to find a partner willing to take primary responsibility for child-rearing, like the men supposedly did.

[–]The_Best_01 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Reality is a bitch

So is she.

[–]iloomynazi 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

As a male investment banker, dating is practically impossible. I haven’t the time, the energy or the brain capacity to do 60+ hours a week and look for “the one”.

Doesn’t help that people assume I’m a wanker when I tell them what I do either.

[–]orcscorper 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe you just need to enunciate better. People think you are saying you are an investment wanker.

[–]TheImpossible1 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I laughed.

[–]Aivias 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Chances are better that you are a cunt than youre not.

The likely hood that an investment banker is a coke huffing fiend is almost 100% in my experience. Every person working in and around the finance industry in London that Ive met (like, 20 people so I know its not a lot) has a drinking problem they cant admit and enjoys copious amounts of cocaine.

[–]iloomynazi 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Exactly. How am I supposed to compete with stereotypes like that?

[–]Aivias 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Unfortunately for you stereotypes didnt just fall out of the sky with no basis in reality.

[–]fogoticus 84 points85 points86 points 7 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

It's like she doesn't even know there are men out there working jobs most women wouldn't even imagine are possible, putting their very health on the line and still doing it without bitching.

SHE'S BITCHING ABOUT SITTING AT A PC DOING MATHS AND HELPING CUSTOMERS AND DOING SOME PROJECTS. SHE THINKS THAT'S MAKING HER INFERTILE.

Good fucking lord the g'al has a piece of brain missing.

[–]Cryhavok101 57 points58 points59 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

She's also bitching about having to pick up slack because a new parent takes time off. As if it wasn't women taking that time off for their kids 9 out of 10 times, and men picking up the slack. But as soon as a woman is affected by it, it's a horrible affront to femininity.

[–]lethrowaway4me 30 points31 points32 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

World ends. Women most affected.

[–]orcscorper 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with this. Why do men usually die before their wives? Because they want to. The world ending would mean I could finally stop working, but women have so much more free time (and free drinks), that the end of the world would affect them more adversely.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And it makes even less sense because feminists are the ones who usually argue in favor of paternity leave! They want the child-rearing and homemaking responsibilities to be divided more evenly amongst the sexes, but now that they're getting what they supposedly wanted (again), they figure out that one of their objectives is not really a good solution.

[–]martin59825 61 points62 points63 points 7 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I spent the last few days hauling big fucking trees, and cutting them into boards in 96 degree heat, high humidity, zero shade

Imagine growing up so soft that physical labor doesn’t even make actual sense to you - case in point:

I had a conversation recently with my mom who genuinely doesn’t understand why people in the oilfield make so much money, when she “works just as hard”

Oilfield:

16 hour days, for weeks at a time; in the middle of nowhere; swinging a sledgehammer; in heavy FR gear, on top of black plastic that reflects the sun like a motherfucker - in all types of weather, for that matter; dangerous; completely away from all comforts. Et cetera

On the other hand - she has to answer a phone and click stuff - and that Becky can be a real bitch

Basically the same thing.

Must just be sexism or whatever

[–]janglang 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Why can't the plastic be white? Serious question.

[–]FiveMagicBeans 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

White plastics degrade quickly when exposed to UV light. You'll find anything that's been left outside under direct light will start to yellow and crumble much more quickly than different shades of plastic.

[–]Arthuyo 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Stop manplaining! Nah just kidding, I never knew that.

[–]FiveMagicBeans 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I still remember the hideous couches that my mother had when I was little. They were something like this:

https://goo.gl/8EbkxH

Although the red flowers and the beige background held up fine, all of the material in the white flowers broke down and flaked away leaving nasty bald spots in the middles of the flowers. I'm not sure if it was the backing of the fabric, or the fabric itself, but it totally fascinated me back then.

[–]janglang 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Huh, who'd have thought. Thank you!

[–]avocado0286 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So why not use yellow plastic?

[–]avocado0286 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So why not use yellow plastic?

[–]martin59825 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dunno. Never asked.

I’m too tired to google lol

[–]Boomer8450 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That would be racist. /s

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

16 hour days, for weeks at a time; in the middle of nowhere; swinging a sledgehammer; in heavy FR gear, on top of black plastic that reflects the sun like a motherfucker - in all types of weather, for that matter; dangerous; completely away from all comforts. Et cetera

Not to mention the toxic oil fumes that are carried on the shoulders of the scorching heat in hot weather.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

She just don't wanna work. But also, don't want a toxic male to provide for her. She is sooo confused. Poor mommy's girl!! She needs a year off with full salary. The problem is that her boss is a white male who thinks he knows how to manage a business... she should come forward and tell us all how loud his boss speaks to her and how bad it makes her feel.. She should get him fired from his own business.

[–]fogoticus 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds about right in her own language.

Oh well. Poor little thing had one full project handed to her because a poor idiot went to take care of his kid. Could you imagine the shitfest at a second project?

Also, the girl should be awarded and thanked for being female. Apparently she's fully infertile right now. Probably a bit of a stressing situation knowing that she can't whore herself out at night and not get some unfortunate bastard's child inside of her so she can collect alimony.

Fucking dumb cunt.

[–]boxsterguy 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There was so much in this article you could've attacked (Oh noes, men going on paternity leave mean I have to do more work! Welcome to what men have had to deal with around maternity leave since forever), and you pick this? Just because a job isn't physically demanding doesn't mean it's not mentally demanding or stressful. "I'm only responsible for billions of dollars in investments every day, but at least I'm not hauling big fucking trees so my life must be golden."

There can still be high stakes involved even if there's no risk of physical harm.

[–]fogoticus 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My own father has around 140 people underneath him. He's their boss. There's not ONE day in which there isn't at least one guy who comes up to him with amazingly hard stories and suicidal thoughts.

Each and every single time that happens, he completely strips himself of any ranks within the company he works at and is a literal father to each and every one of them giving pure advice and helping them through. Even tho he has a fucking hard position and is the one who gets hammered the instant something goes slightly wrong. He's almost 8 hours out of 12 in meetings on a daily basis. The rest are spent at his desk doing tons of paperwork or roaming the company seeing if employees are doing their jobs and assisting them or helping them.

Doing bank work isn't as hard as you made it up to be. Yes. You gotta use your mental strength a lot else you're screwed and your composure has to be set at any given moment.

That lady shows how incapable she is of leadership. She proves through this post that she can't occupy any other higher position because of how easily she gives up and throws blame around. And long story short, isn't even trying.

Also. She got ONE project more because of a maternity leave from one colleague. I don't give a shit about her mental stress. As you yourself said, men have been doing this since forever.

[–]89peters 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Um, women said they wanted this. They supposedly wanted the hard work at the office and the overtime and as much work hours as possible etc. Because strong and empowered. Turns out even high paying jobs suck ass. Who could have possibly imagined that work actually isn't a fun, great time?

Feminists got what they wanted. And I'm supposed to -- what -- feel sorry for them? Fuck right off. Enjoy the work, you stupid dipshits.

[–]Mythandros 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A piece? I think you are underestimating how much brain she is really missing.

[–]themolestedsliver 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah i would say having an active military career would halter if not dampen having children/raising a family you want to see every day (sister left her 2 year old for half a year cause of a deployment).

But nah her optionally taking banking as a career is an issue.....

[–]Cwmcwm 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She also, presumably, had to take on some duties left by new mothers, but no whining about that?

[–]666Evo 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

the more that I feel that I'm being made to make a choice

When did we decide that we could go through life without making choices and living with the consequences?

[–]89peters 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ahem, feminism disagrees with you. Female choices are caused by the patriarchy.

[–]VegetableConfection1 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (15 children) | Copy Link

feminists assure us that men & women are equally capable in every way, nay identical in fact, so anything that affects women must equally affect men.

The author of this article says that she doesn't think this way. They each face different problems when working in banking, and this article is highlighting the female side. I agree it's a bit preachy and anti-male. But I thought it was interesting, and isn't something I'd really considered before.

[–]89peters 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Turns out working isn't all fun and games lol. Rich feminist spoiled brats decided they wanted "careers". Unfortunately 99 percent of the population doesn't get to have a "career," they have to fucking work. And even rich female bankers like OP are starting to realize that they had it much, much easier prior to the whole "feminism" and "strong and empowered" thing. Hilariously, according to The Economist, the "new American dream" for women is to become a housewife. LMAO.

[–]VegetableConfection -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

I'm a big supporter of men's rights but this is just anti-woman drivel. You're a toxic person /u/89peters, this sub would be better off without you.

[–]KDulius 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

You're going to need some.evidence to back up that claim.

I'm not even saying you are wrong, I just think it's a massive leap from that post to "you hate wahmens"

[–]VegetableConfection-1 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link

Lol damn a guy can't give an opinion without people asking for "evidence". What evidence are you expecting me to produce? I didn't say that they are a woman-hater, I said that that comment was anti-woman. Which it is.

[–]KDulius 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Being Anti-woman and women hating are effectively the same thing

[–]VegetableConfection0 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link

My point there was that I called the comment anti-woman, not the commenter.

[–]KDulius 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Again, how was the comment anti-woman?

[–]VegetableConfection 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Why do you say "again" when this is the first time you've asked?

[–]machingunwhhore 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because feminists assure us that men & women are equally capable in every way, nay identical in fact, so anything that affects women must equally affect men.

Nonono, feminists don't think that men and women are equal. They think that women deserve more because they are better but simultaneously deserve less responsibility because they are also children and cannot make their own decision or carry their weight.

[–]The_Best_01 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bingo. They wanna have their cake and eat it too while ignoring the hypocrisy. Fuck that.

[–][deleted] 281 points282 points283 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Nor do any of these men take time to really understand the women they work with or to appreciate the sacrifices they are making for their roles.

Yeah remember how men were demonized as bad fathers for working to support their families? How suddenly working 80 hours a week meant you didn't want to see your kids?

This woman has no idea what it means to be unappreciated. Her disconnect with reality and lack of human empthatu are astounding.

[–][deleted] 62 points63 points64 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Most people don't know a man, Otis Redding, wrote/performed the song "Respect" originally. Kind of a perfect example.

[–]89peters 55 points56 points57 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Amazing that that song was written about men. To be fair, Otis loved Aretha Franklin's version about women (on the other hand, what was he supposed to say? "No I hated it").

I'll do you one better: the song "girls just wanna have fun", which became an unofficial feminist anthem, was originally a bitter song written by a man about female frivolity.

She is basically portraying her reality the way it actually is for most men in white collar jobs . . . we pick up the slack once our female colleagues start having kids and routinely taking sick time / leave early (after their 3-4 months of maternity leave). And she clearly sees how unfair it is. Now all she needs is a little self awareness.

Remember when women wanted Hobby Lobby to pay for their anti-procreation materials?

That's not even a health care issue. As women are so fond of telling men "you aren't entitled to sex". people aren't entitled to sex. If you choose to have sex, you're taking a risk. Its not like you're getting cancer or you get in a car accident.

Also interesting is they demanded it for women, not for 'all people'. yeah, feminism is for everyone... lol.

I think they were trying to make it a "oppressive religious male overlords vs women" thing to taint public opinion.

[–]Chipdogs 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

It is if you don't want society to be flooded with millions of unwanted children raised by single mothers, who will then be more likely to themselves have unwanted children or grow up into criminals. Birth control saves billions in the long run, there's no reason for it not to be socialized.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

the court system is already lowly loaded. They use the threat of 20 years prison to enforce an 80% plea rate, which means 80% of cases end before going to trial.

They do this because the court system is overloaded from non violent drug offenders, they simply do not have enough time to try every single junkie.

let me put it this way: What do you think of people who use welfare money to buy recreation gear? Imagine someone saves welfare checks and buys a jet ski or something similar, but they dont actually work for that money. Do you feel Satisfied, Dissatisfied, or highly dissatisfied that they are using the money they get on things to enjoy rather than necessities?

Is sex a necessity or a thing to enjoy? Why do you want to subsidize people freely having sex? Do you think they're entitled to sex?

Does the jet ski lead to a net savings for everyone in the future? Does it have knock on effects like reducing criminality in the population? If so, then yes I would be fine with this magical jet ski.

Is sex a necessity or a thing to enjoy? Why do you want to subsidize people freely having sex? Do you think they're entitled to sex?

Whether you like it or not, people are going to have sex, it doesn't matter what you think they SHOULD be doing. "Should" arguments are useless, what is useful is looking at the effects of a policy and the benefits or detriments it has on society.

[–]mwobuddy -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

rewarding irresponsible behavior does not reduce that same behavior.

[–]Chipdogs 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Again with the "should/shouldn't" argument.

Neither does allowing them to have unwanted children that perpetuates the cycle of poverty. Believe it or not, wagging your finger at people and telling them not to have sex, actually doesn't stop them from having sex.

However over time socializing birth control does reduce the amount of uneducated criminals in society which is better for the economy and makes a safer society.

How exactly does providing free family planning encourage irresponsible behavior? If you knew anything about it, you'd see it has the opposite effect.

[–]mwobuddy -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

That's a future not written.

Women can keep their legs together or buy their own condoms, just as men have had to do.

Its incredible that abstinence is completely off the table as a responsible thing people can do themselves to protect not only themselves but 'future unwanted children'.

Simply amazing.

So then you've got an underclass of disadvantaged unwanted children who are more likely to become criminals and more likely to be a drain on the public purse in multiple areas.

Forget about this utopia where everyone does what they should be doing. It doesn't exist. This is the real world, and in the real world the smart thing to do is to look at the long term effects of policy regardless of how it makes you feel. Stupid uneducated irresponsible people exist, they are not going anywhere, so any policy that stops them from breeding quite as much is a good policy.

There's no reason she can't conceive a child.

Her only choice is between having enough time to care for the child she conceives, or working full time.

[–]114dniwxom 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I doubt that you're correct on many levels. This woman seems to want children and a family as a trophy, a token to say she's just as good as her male counterparts. She makes more than enough money to have a nanny raise her child for her.

Biologically speaking, it's difficult to conceive a child naturally without a man and she fears the stigma of artificial insemination. I only think there's 1 case of a woman conceiving without the help of a man in history and there's a lot of doubt about whether it really happened.

This woman works 80 hours a week and probably wants men that are out of her league. Unless she's willing to go for a gold-digger, like her male counterparts, she's going to have to get herself a cat.

[–]The_Best_01 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Except she blamed her "inability" to conceive on her stressful job. So biologically speaking, she's wrong whether or not she prefers a specific type of man.

It is hilarious, but after seeing what crazy lawmakers attempted to put through in Poland I honestly think they're going to lash out single guys over this with legislation. I thought it was feminists that would do this first but it looks like traditionalists are out to attack men over this bullshit too.

If you don't know, they recently tried to introduce a tax for single men in Poland.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

That I did not know. In Canada we get tax benefits for being parents so it's a reverse concept, but I can understand that logically it's "who can we gouge for more money?.. single people have a lot.. okay but we can't tax women cause of my soggy knees"

[–]Lethn 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I need to find the proper source, but it's real, it's remarkable just how far this crazy feminist/traditionalist conspiracy goes. These hard left/anti-capitalist types have infilitrated every part of our society and the traditionalists are just as bad it's no wonder everything is so fucked up if it's these people who are in charge. They know that they can't convince the average person to go along with their bullshit so activists and pressure groups get to work drafting legislation and attack people who don't go along with them.

This makes me so irrationally angry. I don't get "paternity leave". I'm having my first child this week, and I have to use ALL of my sick time to get a maximum of one week off to bond with my child.

Meanwhile my fiancee has been out of work for the past month at 100% pay, and will continue to get full pay until 6 weeks after the baby is born, after which she'll get 60% pay from the state, and her job is preserved another 12 weeks.

I work in sales, and my metrics are not suspended when I take time off. I could be fired the week I return if my sales numbers are not good enough. This is not an equal system. This system is NOT biased in my favor!

Your anger is quite rational.

I'm assuming that you live in the US, and I would guess California based on the SDI (State Disability Insurance). is this article satire? I'm asking in all honesty, that's how ridiculous it reads

[–]Bestoftherest222 52 points53 points54 points 7 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

What a classically ironic article.

...in the past few years several of my male colleagues have started families. They all take paternity leave.
...I was recently asked to take on extra project by a colleague who's a new father...I'm stuck in a vicious cycle. The more that my male colleagues have children, the more that I am expected to cover for them and the harder it becomes for me to conceive.
...It's not considered appropriate to push-back when all the new fathers (and there are quite a few of them) expect their still-childless female colleagues to work harder than they do. Nor do any of these men take time to really understand the women they work with or to appreciate the sacrifices they are making for their roles.
...Men in banking need to be more sensitive to this - and to stop crowing about their children and expecting childless female colleagues to pick up the slack when they start dumping work on them and taking extra time off.

It sounds like that work place is doing things right, everyone is being treated equal. If you have kids you work less over time, if you don't have kids you're expected to work more over time. Yet that seems to be unequal for her.

I wonder who was picking up the slack as women were taking maternity leave? Heck only until recently was paternity leave a thing, incidentally it was pushed by people wanted true equality. Which seems like the writer of the article despises. She seems to be blaming fathers for her having to work longer and those hours are taking a toll on her ever decreasing fertility window.

The writer of the article just needs to admit she valued money above having children and now she is turning into an old spinster. She has no one else to blame but herself.

I have a problem with business cultures where not having a family means you should be working more overtime. For me, I like to work where my extracurricular activities outside of work are not judged by management as more or less worthy than a coworker’s extracurricular activities.

Ex: I’m not going to work overtime this week because I’m going to go home, drink a bunch of beers, crank out a nice fap, and play some video games. Versus: I’m not going to work overtime this week because my child is in a school play.

For me, the rationale for not working overtime is none of my employer’s business. But, I’m a pretty solid slacker with low ambition and low overhead.

I’m just ranting about a previous employer where two coworkers went out on maternity leave, and their workloads were dumped on me and two other coworkers. I was expected to work on Saturdays to make up the difference, and I determined that time and a half was not worth it for me. The employer couldn’t force me to work extra, but it did hurt my chances for advancement. As I look back on that job, I’m glad I no longer work there.

[–]Terminal-Psychosis 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes, many men would put quality of life over financial gain (and the stress that comes with it). Unfortunately, men are not often given such opportunity.

Women have enjoyed such freedom all along. It is littlearly what the "pay gap" is. Women choosing quality of life over financial gain. All well and good.

The woman in the article made a choice, and is desperately trying to escape her own responsibility. Blaming it on men is the massive problem here.

[–]Aivias 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Unfortunately, men are not often given such opportunity.

Men understand that hurting their professional career is equal to hurting their entire lives. A good job can land you a great deal of female interest. How can women compete when men are working not to just pay bills but also for status and romantic success?

[–]Hankflax 19 points20 points21 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Maybe... Quit your job??

[–]NibblyPig[🍰] 28 points29 points30 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

But it's unfair that men can have children and not quit their job.

What she needs to do is find a husband that will stay at home and raise the child.

Of course she won't do this, because what she really wants is to have a career and raise a child. Which men can't do either when they're working all week.

[–]TigerRaiders 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It would be nice if more men and women were accepting of the stay at home Dad so this kind of practice would be more normalized. In some places, being a stay at home dad can be extremely degrading, sometimes impossible to be a stay at home dad in many Muslim countries.

I was a single Dad for 6 years taking care of my boy by myself and faced odd looks from many of the mothers, teachers and caregivers that I happened to try and connect with (for the sake of my son, ie play dates etc). They would assume that something was wrong with me because I left her. Usually, I would make friends with the dad and through the Dad they would convince their wives that I was a good, involved parent, not some half ass every two weekender Dad.

[–]89peters 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Unfortunately stay at home dads (who are awesome) are significantly more likely to be divorced. Most (not all, but most) women become resentful because the dad gets to spend time with the kids while they work. It's a failed experiment.

Until we create a voluntary socialist/mutualist society we're stuck with traditional gender roles. Feminists have done absolutely nothing to help matters, and in fact are doing the exact opposite.

[–]TigerRaiders 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don’t think we are stuck with traditional gender roles at all. My current wife makes significantly more than me. She’s accomplished in her career and I do the vast majority of housework and childcare. I also have my own career, something I’ve built over the last 10 years and I also am quite accomplished. I have the flexibility in my job that allows me to pick up from school and take time off to actually be a father.

And this is the bigger problem. Parents don’t have time to actually be a parent these days. Our society puts way too much emphasis on work. I don’t know about you but round here the stay at home parent doesn’t even exist for the common man because it’s just way too expensive to live off a single income. I’m pretty sure this is the common and growing trend nation wide. Plus, women should have the ability to have a career. Us men should be supportive of our wives and their ambition. Just because they are women certainly doesn’t mean they should be the only one responsible for child care and house work. Happy households share the burden of work and both roles deserve to find their own success.

Plus, let’s be honest, the vast majority of single parents are mothers. Women are not the ones leaving the home. So what choice do they have? They have to work in order to survive because child support just doesn’t pay the bills. Hell, if you’re indigent, child support can be as low as $25/week. Fucking ouch.

Plus, there’s not even enough data to support an actual experiment for single dads. If I remember properly, the Harvard study you reference even admits that the pool of data was so little because there’s no significant or reliable data for stay at home dads because it is such an uncommon occurrence. But of the data they could collect, the divorce rate is something like 30% higher. Plus, the idea of a stay at home dad is a relatively new practice. There’s a lot of norms that need to be adjusted before we can official state that it’s a failed experiment. It’s not a failed experiment in my household. I’ve got a wonderful wife that respects me and I respect her. And our children are amazing. I’m quite happy. I hope others out there can find happiness like I have.

For women in finance, the heavy workload, the high stress and the lack of sleep not only make it difficult to find a partner, but are a recipe for hormonal imbalance and infertility.

My male colleagues don't have this dilemma. Not only are they able to have children easily (often with women who work outside banking) but their ability to start families is making it even harder for female bankers like me to do the same.

Translation: The biological realities of being a woman in a demanding career and competing with men are catching up with me but rather than accept that and find a way to deal with the stress like men do I'm just going to blame the men around me instead.

It really is no fucking wonder so many women drop out of these jobs if that is the attitude they genuinely have and like others it's such a stupid opinion that yes I'm wondering if this is satire too.

t's time that this dynamic is openly discussed. Plenty of women my age in finance have the same problem. It's not considered appropriate to push-back when all the new fathers (and there are quite a few of them) expect their still-childless female colleagues to work harder than they do.

Oh how dare those filthy misogynist men treat you like an equal and expect you to work harder than them if you want to get more out of your position! She is in fact complaining about being treated equally in the workplace, every time a feminist gives their version of events it just screams of bullshit, yes, if you want to move up and further your career, you have to work hard holy shit.

It really does seem that feminists are nothing more than naive children who have been sold a total lie that they can quite literally do anything even the biologically impossible and they're quickly discovering when they hit the workplace they crave reality is completely different. After that they then start doing everything they can to undermine the people around them and lash out at men especially who have been making sacrifices for years to get where they are which feminists just aren't willing to do.

I mean for fuck's sake, I'm having a rant but does she not realise the fact that yes even if fathers get to have children they don't always get to see them precisely because they work so much? Does she think she's somehow unique in that way? When you devote yourself to your work you miss out on a lot of opportunities to meet people and find a partner.

This is precisely why so many women prefer to get married in their twenties or get into a long term relationship, now she's realised how fucked she is and she doesn't like it so she's gone and made a stupid blog post on the internet trying to attack men.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, feminists are the very incels they love to mock and attack and are far more dangerous because they have genuine political power.

"working 80 hours a week makes it difficult to make a family, be part of it, and still have a career with lots of money and personal achievement..."

Welcome to equality fuck-face, you've been missed.

Same website has this article called “kiss of death ” for men who take paternity leave.

This is a major problem for both men and women, especially in the US, where any kind of leave for new moms or dads, can be a career killer. It’s bad for our society, bad for our education, bad for our health...it’s just bad all around. People need time to be present for their families, both men and women.

Anyone interested, some Canadian companies have some pretty progressive paternity and maternity leave polices. They know that parents that are present are happier, healthier and more productive. Plus, population growth is one of the key factors to their GDP growth, that’s one of the reasons they have such a robust immigration policy.

They've come full circle.

[–]Bumgurgle 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is a great article. I’m saving it to bring up as a topic over thanksgiving with my feminazi mother.

[–]corezon 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's amazing how these men find time outside of their 80 hour work weeks to conceive children. Perhaps she should get her fucking priorities straight?

[–]staticsnake 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When men work 80 hours a week they're terrible father's and husbands who hate their families. When women work 80 hours a week it's the men's fault.

This article disagrees with her. Seems like she had employers nice enough to let people take that leave. There's nothing stopping her from having babies.

Someone should research how "some people" seem to be either unable or unwilling to own their own shit.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes because clearly it's men who get all this generous leave and who slack off after they have kids....

The only thing that really bugs me about this is that she blames her male colleagues, not her job. Bitch they did nothing to you!

[–]TibsKirk 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

" My male colleagues don't have this dilemma. " It's so incredible that the entire article is about how working long hours has negative effects on her health and well-being, while not even pausing to consider the effects on men when they are slaves to a job.

I am surprised people in banking work 80 hours a week (apparently). That is quite a few hours.

But everything else.... wow.

[–]Hornisaurus_Rex 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah the fuck? My bank ain't even open 40 hours a week.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

She probably works in investment banking, which is one of the most demanding careers out there time-wise. One of my close friends started his career in finance at a large investment banking firm in NYC and he switched to a smaller bank after two trips to the ER due to work-related stress and exhaustion. In the big firms, especially for young bankers, the hours are no joke. In some prominent firms, it would not be an exaggeration to say that working an average of 80 hours per week is on the low-end.

[–]AgoristOwl 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Money doesn't sleep."

The amount of hours one has to put in to stay competitive is certainly no joke. Glad your buddy has reduced their stress load. I love $ as much as the next, but gotta be alive to enjoy it haha.

banking is not work its sitting on your lazy ass all day , they sit on their ass all day and complain of work-related stress and exhaustion lolol man or women they are pussys , thats not real work

[–]Lanoir97 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure she exaggerated. I'm also sure that the high ups work a lot more, especially at bigger banks. They also get paid a metric shitton, so it makes up for it. Really, I've driven through the ATM at my bank and seen thie President in there working on a computer at like 10:30 pm on a Friday. He earns his money.

"Women can and will work as hard as men, but doing so often comes at a tangible physical cost." So go back to cooking and making babies so we don't have to hear you complain about how hard it is to work like a man. It is articles like this that support the term Wahmen.

[–]MaxStout808 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just a positive note: scrolling through the comments section on the article, almost everyone is totally unmoved by this ridiculous story. That at least, gives me hope.

[–]harleypig 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Isn't this how we got the wage gap? I wonder if the wage gap in her company (field?) is reversed.

I mean, if more men are working less then she is to be with their children, then they're probably making less than she is, right?

[–]Supernumiphone 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's another important element she seems to have missed. There's a reason her body is unable to conceive. It is too stressed out and unhealthy from her lifestyle. She could not physically support growing a child in her body, so it refuses to allow her to do so. Her body is telling her this and she complains about everything except her own chosen lifestyle.

If she were to conceive and try to carry that pregnancy while continuing with her high-pressure lifestyle, which seems to clearly be her intention, it would likely have very negative health consequences for the baby. She doesn't think about this, doesn't seem to care. Why? Well it seems like it's all about her and what she wants. She wants a baby, and if that baby ends up being unhealthy too bad. Suck it up, baby, she's got work to do.

Her body is telling her to slow down if she wants a baby. I know, she's complaining that she can't slow down because of the pressure of the job, which is everyone else's fault. If only she could get the stress to let up just enough to conceive, then she could carry on as before. Don't you dare try to tell her that her lifestyle is completely wrong for raising a healthy baby.

JFC. There are physical differences between men and women and all of our technology is not enough to eliminate them. Equality can only go so far. At some point you have to acknowledge and respect your limitations and make hard choices. It's not everyone else's fault.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women can and will work as hard as men, but doing so often comes at a tangible physical cost.

Guess all my broken bones, torn ligaments, scars, and mental stress issues have nothing to do with me having raising a family and working my ass off because men don't have that problem. Oh well. Guess I'll go apologize to the nearest female co-worker for fucking her life goals up simply by existing.

Oh. I look great too btw. Fuck you bitch.

[–]FiveMagicBeans 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My cousin's the chief cardio pulmonary surgeon for a regional hospital, she has one of the most demanding, time sensitive and stressful jobs possible.

Throughout her practicum she managed to find time to have FOUR gorgeous children that her husband cares for while she's busy at work.

This lady's anecdotal bullshit neither proves not disproves my own anecdotal bullshit. Until some sort of medical study is done to prove clinically that the stress of a high powered job somehow makes women infertile (rather than making them a raving bitch), there's simply no validity to this crap.

[–]belly_bell 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To be fair, she's doing a bang up job of pigeon-holing all the women outside of banking as stay at home mothers to support the families of these men.

[–]proteios1 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am just glad that: a) sh found a way to blame men for her choices b) that feminism realized means a woman behaves like (what she thinks is) a man. c) feminism version of a man is wrong and now realizing the feminist dream has destroyed the female. Ironic? I guess. Sad for both men and women? Definitely.

[–]CountVonVague 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]ShepardHeartsCreed 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm at my bar and I just dropped my phone in actual shock. I just don't know what's happening this generation. It's kinda scary honestly

[–]Mythandros 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This must be satire. I had a good laugh at her whining.

It was her choice to choose career over family. She is the only one responsible for that choice. If she wants a family, it's clear she will need to work less. This is normal.

What I found hilarious was her blaming men for her not being able to conceive. Then again, I probably wouldn't want to have kids with her either, she's too much of a whiner and not willing to accept responsibility for choices SHE made. Not exactly a good choice for a partner.

Typical.

[–]Opuz 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I haven't laughed out loud for a long time. This article lol

[–]R_Discussion 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm stuck in a vicious cycle. The more that my male colleagues have children, the more that I am expected to cover for them and the harder it becomes for me to conceive. You can see why I'm annoyed.

Now you know how men feel , stupid cunt. Oh and btw Maternity leave usually lasts ALOT longer.

[–]Wsing1974 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's absolutely right about banking hours causing infertility. I don't know a single male banker who has been able to get pregnant.

[–]ThePolarisWarrior 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"For women in finance, the heavy workload, the high stress and the lack of sleep not only make it difficult to find a partner, but are a recipe for hormonal imbalance and infertility."

She says this like Finance is the only job this occurs in.

It's total bull, if she wanted a child so much go make one. She's put herself in this position, there are women out there who aren't able to have children and there are women like this who blame others for a regret they themselves caused.

what an absolute nut job.

[–]1LegendaryWombat 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah...no. Men are making you do nothing, you choose to, instead of bringing up this shit, you piss and moan and ultimately don't want to take responsibility.

If you work 80 hours a week, thats your choice, and you're fucking insane for doing it. If you feel like you're having issues with extra work because the boys are being adults, THEN SAY SOMETHING. If you just spend your time writing out internet articles instead of actually working toward your goal of a kid, guess whats not going to happen?

You want special treatment, so fuck you woman. Be a fucking adult.

[–]FrattyMcBeaver2 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Closing the wage gap and all the hard work that goes into a job, which takes away from family time. She wants the best of both worlds when it's not possible. Want to make money? You're going to have to put in the time. Want a family? Also takes time. Sounds like she is just unhappy with her decision of a career over a family. Also sounds like she wants to marry up, but doesn't like her choices now that she is older.

[–]goodmod[M] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is a good link, but the title of your post does not say enough about its subject. This forces people to click and read before they can decide whether they are interested. It also makes searching impossible.

If everyone did this, the subreddit would become unusable.

So please don't do it. Take the time to describe your link, and save the time of hundreds of other people.

When making a title, it's best to assume the reader doesn't know what you're talking about - but don't go overboard with every detail. Then check if there are any words you can cut out without losing any important information.

[–]caelum52[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]chambertlo -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is a good thing. Women like this shouldn’t be reproducing anyway.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Uh, no? The author seems a little narcissistic, but if she's a VP at a major investment bank, she's probably pretty sharp. We definitely want more smart people (with the financial means to raise a child) to reproduce.

[–]gambit87 -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree with most of the threads in this subreddit but I don't really like most of the replies in this thread. This is a serious problem. I worked in high finance and women do age in dog years working there. I'd meet up with girls I graduated college with and my jaw would drop thinking WTF happened. They used to be hot. Men in this case do have it a bit easier. Women that are like this want someone of similar stature and have a hard time finding it. If they take too much time off they will get cut. Men can usually find someone to take the brunt of the housework though it will destroy families. Most people burn out 2 - 6 years on this "track". It's not meant to be a lifelong career - you make your money and get out.

[–]tmone 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men in this case do have it a bit easier. so men handle the work load and stress better so women are the real victims? get outa here with that shit.
