I told them that my six sisters and ALL of the previous “girls” (yeah that caused steam to spurt from her ears) I had ever worked with had no problem with it and that THEY were the problem and that I did not appreciate their nitpicking a non problem along with their incivility. While two of the committee members may have taken issue with the email, I think what led to the commitee rescinding the offer was his excessive "request" for sick days and his request to negotiate salary in future years.

Still, he could sue them, because they can't just yank back an offer like that once accepted. Its a violation of contract law and he can, and should, sue. Then we will learn for sure what it was about.

But this "ladies" situation. Interesting to be lectured about what an educator should know, when this is such a small thing easily learned (even if insane). Anyone with any relation to education would realize he could learn this in 5 minutes and everyone could move on.

I often send group e-mails at work and never have I ever considered using a gender-specific term even when adressing a group of same-sex people. Feels unprofessional.

This man is from a different generation so I'd cut him some slack. On the other hand, being in the profession and lining up for this position, he should know better. Also note he's the one claiming this and the offer was withdrawn following salary negotiations.

It might sound like a ridiculous consequence but I have overheard my female colleagues' complaints on being adressed as girls or ladies by our boss while the men were never called boys or gents. Young male colleagues were also never infantilized by being referred to in diminutives while women are talked about in essentially baby names (not much of a thing in English). I cringe at uni lecturers adressing "the ladies" in the lecture hall (usually followed by some gender stereotype).

It might sound ridiculous to you but clearly the women at the receiving end don't appreciate this. It's a simple thing to be made aware of and avoid, least of all when formally adressing people who sit above you.

This is virtue signaling. Someone in the school board came up with this stupid idea. Then said it out loud that ‘ladies’ was insensitive, motivated by attempting to appear superior in their evolved modern sensibilities. Now everyone else in the room has a choice. You can say something and contest the notion as absurd, but then risk appearing as insensitive. OR you can just go along with it and not risk your job.

We’re at a terrible point right now in society where you cannot contest PC absurdity without risking your job in woke cancel culture. It’s a recipe for truth to be silenced and propaganda and misinformation to spread.

It’s exactly how Nazi Germany started. People became afraid to contest what was going on because there would be repercussions to their livelihoods. Then it went on long enough where it actually became part of their modern culture and snowballed into the state level evil we know in history.
