This framing of misandry by default places women as these special beings. Everything hateful a woman does is a response but when men do it it's because they want to control others (women).

Plenty of misogyny is a response from men seeing women shitting on men on a regular basis or based on their own bad experiences with women. Likewise with women, they generalize a small percentage of bad men (from the news or their own bad experiences with men) and hate men as a result.

Generally if someone's critical thinking skills are low enough to give them confidence in proudly & consciously resorting to justifying hateful rhetoric towards the vast majority of people of the gender opposite to them, there really isn't much that can be done to guide them on a path conducive to changing their mentality for the better.

just today I basically heard the same. no, misandry is not a response. misandry describes the system sexist discrimination against men. people NEVER talk about it, but it exists and funny enough, it causes misogyny and most of the problems feminists love to complain about.

systemically, men are forced and raised to:

• be with less moral values. Society wants to raise soliders capable of murdering for theire country, not moral human beings that refuse to kill for political and financial power. thankfully the majority of men have loving families that treats them like humans instead, not all though.

• believe theire value comes from financial success. society wants working machines that don't complain about this modern form of slavery.

Without a doubt, this leads to pretty severe discrimination. thats why men are accepted or even expected to be violent towards each other. Why men's mental health dosn't matter, it contradicts the relentless working. It causes the harsher punishments in court, since violent men need to be regulated more strictly in order for society to function. and it leads to much more.

People always love to complain about white male privilage, but thats the price we pay for it. i'd rather be seen as a normal human being with feelings than have the privilage of being more likely to belong to the .001% of rhich people. I'd rather earn 5% less and instead not be expected to destroy my mental health and body working in the worst jobs that society has to offer. I'd rather be seen as a living being with inherent value rather than having to go to war and die for a country that manipulates me into wanting to be a slave to the system.

But thats just my personal perspective on this.

If she was talking about hating a specific man due to something he’s done she might be right, but misandry is a hatred of men in general whether or not specific men have dine anything wrong. It’s not a reaction, it’s a negative emotion directed at people due to their sex, not in response to anything they specifically have done.

If misandry is a reaction, it’s an irrational one. It would be like hating your cousin and her friend as a reaction to some women committing statutory rape of students.

You could easily use this reasoning to legitimize literally any form of misogyny too. It's like if a man hit a woman and then responding to that with "well, it was an appropriate response because she was been being a bitch", or if a man calls all women stupid and then responding to that by saying "well, it's an appropriate response because these women I know are stupid".

It's clearly an excuse to try to rationalize misandry, that could easily be used to rationalize misogyny or racism if you applied it in any other context.

To be honest, the bear discussion has been a blessing in disguise. Luckily nobody in my day to day life has brought this up, but I married a smart woman and the people I choose to spend time with are pretty decent. Anyone who supports the bear statement has done you a favour by outing themselves as completely unreasonable… and also a bit stupid. Just don’t waste your time with them. I know that she is your cousin but to be honest, I would even waste my breath on them and just tune out and don’t listen to anything they have to say. If you can just go to another room if they’re around. It’s your life, don’t subject yourself to people like that. I have a belligerent step dad and I literally zone out when he talks.

This is more of a philosophical problem. You can easily say that about any form of bigotry. If your a white person and you were assaulted by a black man, you could say “white supremacy isn’t a problem it’s a response,” doesn’t mean it was the right response. (P.S. I’m black). The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a response to the attack on Pearl Harbor, doesn’t mean it was the only response. History has shown repeatedly that repaying evil with evil only increases the amount of evil in the world. Besides, misandry is a problem and is as dangerous as misogyny. Misandry leads to promotes harmful ideas like male disposability which itself increases men dying in the work field, by suicide and on the battlefield.

I think you had it right - there's really no point in arguing about it. However! It does expose the subset of women that think poorly of men. More or less, it is an endless cycle of blaming. Typically, the loudest voices are the weakest ones. It's a cycle of blame without self reflection or accountability. No one wants to be the blame of other people's actions. However, no one wants to call out their own side due to tribalism. I think women want men to step up and be equal partners after divorce, in most situations that don’t have abuse concerns.

Don’t women also advocate against circumcising? In fact every situation that I know of where a boy was circumcised, it was at preference of the father.

I think most woman would agree to a gender neutral divorce if we could also have a gender neutral marriage? And I’m sure a society that was less hostile to pregnant women would help as well.
