I might be preaching to the choir here, but this has been on my mind for a while now and I want to vent.

I hear all too often "Tell men not to rape." Here is why this statement irks me.

Imagine if I went around saying "Tell muslims not to blow shit up" or "Tell blacks not to steal cars." Suddenly it's frowned upon, as it should be. Because we know not every muslim is a terrorist and that not every african american is a thief. Why can't we apply this same reasoning to males?

Improper use of terminology will only lead to irrational fear and hatred. It's why so many black people have gotten their shit kicked in by cops, and why so many innocents in the mid-east have died. They were subjected to the same ignorance that stemmed from something as simple as the wrong use of a name or label.

So don't tell men not to rape as if we are all rapists. If people want to raise awareness of rape as means to reduce its likelyhood (which I'm all for), do so in gender-neutral context. A rapist can be anyone. If feminists refuse to acknowledge this, they're also refusing to accept equality.

[Update]

I am proud to say that this post has gotten me banned from r/mens_rights. (Which I guess is some shitty subreddit bent on belittling r/MR) Seems like I've pissed off the right people. :)

Also, this has been a really good discussion. Thanks all.
