Think about it. Current social norms do not include paternity testing in general. Genetic screening, domestic questions of infidelity, but is not done routinely. The study is an example of selection bias, not unlike ex NFL players’ families giving their deceased ones’ brains for study of chronic traumatic encephalopathy: 98% incidence in that study. 100 percent had mental symptoms. Selection bias.

That's funny. I came off the r/TrueOffMyChest subreddit and there was an unhinged rant because the woman's husband wanted a paternity test and she wrote about how men don't deserve rights to any children. It got 12k upvotes and lots of support from other women. That thread was LITTERED with misandry. It eventually got removed by reddit.

These were people who had a paternity test done when they have reason to doubt their paternity. This just shows that if you doubt that a child is yours, it’s more likely you are right than wrong.

Still think it's straight-up fraud and should have some heavy punishment for it. It's literally baby trapping a man for a child that is not his.

End it does not help we have a culture of when women cheat. We hear. "You go girl. You did not get you needs meet. He basically forced you to cheat on him, its all his fault"

That only increases the chances of children out of wedlock.

I can complete understand growing groups of men just dont want kids for the simple fear you could be taken care of someone's else child. And only think it wil keep growing till women have more accountability pushed on them for the big amount of cheating and having kids out of wedlock and straight-up trying to fraud men with lies.

50% is way to damn high. And no one can ignore it. And there are quite a few places that makes doing test without mom writing off on it illegal. So helping the women allowed the fraud stay hidden and not need to take accountability and baby traping and paying for a child that not his. Truly disgusting and sad how it's killing men whenever they find out. Seeing some of the videos when they do.. is just sad.. and truely kills a part of me that would want kids knowing that an option and i could never know cause its illegal to try and find out. To have ever be able to have piece of mind.

Mandatory paternity test is the way. No feelings are hurt and if the female is cheating, at least she will be more careful. None of us can stop cheaters from being themselves but at least we can lower possible infections. Yeah yeah they can take pills but there is health risk for plan b and birth control require you to take it non stop which is one extra step to hide.

How about instead of Gender reveal parties we instead have Paternity reveal parties?

I mean the mother of the child is so adamant that it's the man in question that she should make an event of it right? some cake, some drinks, publicly revealing the test results with a loving smile that sort of thing.

It might not be the best solution to the problem but I don't see feminists (and some women) come up with anything else than "trust me bro" and "man up and pay up, even if she lied"

I'm happily married and about to have a son (due any day now!) and I am 100% ok with paternity testing becoming mandatory. I watched so much paternity court I told my husband if he wants to test since I'm not offended and have nothing to hide, we can. He's the only partner I have had in a couple of years, since before we met. He said no because he was worried it would "hurt our trust" (but again since I brought it up and he hasn't expressed any concern, it's no problem! Why would I be mad?), but he did do a 23andme on himself recently, so he technically could test the child that way if he really wanted and then sign the birth certificate after. At our 32 week ultrasound though, the baby's face so very clearly looks just like him, so now I think he might not even do that. I'm a smol white lady with thinner facial structure, whereas he is Filipino with the broad nose, fluffy lips, etc. The baby already looked just like him and had tons of hair. Going to be the cutest newborn ever since hubby was a cute chubby baby. Anyway, I have no problem with testing because it should be routine before signing the birth certificate anyway. Then, the man can make an informed decision since he will be held legally responsible. I think it's a very fair idea. I'm 100% pro paternity testing in hospital.

It's probably that high because if a guy is taking a paternity test, he probably already suspects his kid isn't actually his. If you don't think your wife is cheating on you, you will probably never get a paternity test.

Located deep deep in the article it states that all of the men who took this study had serious reservations about the fidelity of their partner and ownership of the child. Meaning, this was not a blind study. So if you question your fatherhood to a child, there's a 50/50 chance you're correct.

I mean to be perfectly fair the stat is a little misleading. The reason the percentage is so high is probably because men who ask for paternity tests already believe or know that their partner has been unfaithful.

I find it very weird that because I’m married to my husband- in England at any rate, don’t know what it’s like elsewhere- I didn’t have to take him to register the births of our kids. Their father could be literally anybody*, but because ten years previously I married a bloke, I can just put his name down on a legal document without him being there. They didn’t even want proof I was married, just discharge papers that matched the sex/birth date and hospital on their computer. Blew my mind.

This does NOT mean that 50% of men aren't the parents of their children.

This is what we call selection bias.

This is only men who DOUBT the paternity of their children. If most men don't then they don't show up in any of the data.

As the article says, people are only getting the tests because they are unsure in the first place. You would expect there to be a high number of cases where men are not the father in this situation. There's no reason to think these would be the numbers in the general population.

Sex that does not involve paternity fraud are not usually punished.

Penalty for seducing a girl for example is just marrying her or pay a fine.

A proper way is to pay her dad's bride price first.

I worked for 6 years on a contract for the Child Maintenance Service in the UK doing paternity tests, as well as a myriad of other paternity testing.

I can tell you for certain that when child maintenance is involved, 98-99% of the tests came back positive "He is the father". A lot of that was due diligence by CMS having a caseworker talk to the mothers figuring out who to request the test off (alleged father) and the financial incentive [for the mother] to get it right.

When we did home testing kits, it was probably closer to 80-85% positive for private individuals.

That's a surprising figure from Who's The Daddy!

Edit: I worked in the industry at the same time as this analysis (2010+)
