100% dealbreaker.

A few reasons:

1) Dressing well is perhaps the only part of appearance that's fully under your control. If you don't put any effort into it, that says a lot about you.

2) I dress well. I love going to places with a dress code and getting all dolled up. If a partner can't match my aesthetic, I'm not bringing them with me, and there goes our couples' social life.

3) In my experience, guys who dress like slobs - and lbr, wearing basketball shorts to a bar = slob behavior - are super weird about women investing time and money into our appearance. Like, they want all the benefits of a hot gf but malign her efforts.

To me how well he dresses day to day doesn’t matter as long as it’s clean (one of my best relationships was with a guy who basically wore the same thing everyday for work). However if we’re going out or there’s some event I’d really hate for him to go in sweatpants and a sweatshirt

If he’s open to my fashion advice, it’s definitely not a big deal.

I wouldn’t turn him down unless he was wearing sweatpants to a restaurant or a club or something.

It’s not a deal breaker for me but it’s not preferable I love my husbands style which is very old/traditional/classy. When he’d go to work he’d look like doctor who with the long brown coat. I can definitely see women being turned away by dressing lazy all the time. First impressions matter the most but then if you dressed up all the time it would be tiring to try and match you. I had to intervene because my husband never dressed down so I helped him pick out some more casual clothes.

As long as he and his clothes are clean I guess it's alright. Just don't wear pajamas in public. That's my personal pet peeve.

I put a lot of effort into my looks when we go out. If they can't be bothered to do the one thing that makes themselves look nice. It says a lot about them.

In your particular example, the basketball shorts would be a turn-off.

The biggest issue I've seen most guys have is that they don't know how to dress for their body type. I see way too many men in clothes that just don't fit.

Not a deal breaker. If I don’t know anything about him and he approached me, still not a deal breaker.

There’s nothing inherently unattractive about wearing t shirts and sweatpants. My husband will wear that and I still think he looks super hot. It becomes an issue when you wear the exact same t shirt everyday and it has stains on it, is covered in dog hair, has holes, etc. Same goes with sweatpants.

I don’t need a man to be dressed to the nines just so we can go grocery shopping. Maybe to a fine dining place sure. But to expect him to be all dressed up all the time is a bit ridiculous.

Dealbreaker. I dress well, I expect the same out of my partner. I’ve also noticed men who put very little effort into their appearance don’t have the same standards for the women they want to date in addition to looking out of place in most social situations. I wouldn’t be caught dead with a dri-fit dude in public.

I actually really prefer guys who dress more casually in their day to day but it has to be casual dress in a style I prefer.

I personally find basketball shorts and sweats on men to be a huge turn off but jeans and Ts are good. It's just about personal taste and lifestyle I think. I don't remember ever having anything in common with a basketball shorts/ khaki wearing guy so I don't think it would be an issue in the end anyway.

My favorite outfit on a guy is the Addidas/Puma tracksuit so no, I really don't give a shit. Now I admit to having a thing for the bad boy aesthetic with tattoos, leather jackets and all that jazz, so a mix of both of these is ideal for me 😂

Not a dealbreaker, I’ve dated Adam Sandlers before. My current partner and I both have Adam Sandler moments tbh, but he does not mind dressing up when it’s important, and I do value that. It’s just not a make or break thing for me.

Massive dealbreaker for me. I put effort into my appearance, I'm not going to walk around with someone who can't even bother to not look like he just rolled off the couch. Wear colours that look good on you, and wear some clothes that fit well and flatter your physique, I don't think that's asking too much. A first impression is important, you want to put your best foot forward. If your best is "lazy slob", there's a pretty good chance that this will show itself in other areas of your life.

basic style that is not too flashy > best dressed men > men with dated style that I would have to help him upgrade (if he is even open to that)

Are the sweats stylish? Are they clean? Or are they old and dorky?

I am a casual clean but as others have pointed out this could come with hangups about putting in effort.

It would be a dealbreaker. We could be friends but I have a more alternative style and prefer guys to put some similar thought into what they wear. Alternative can work, but there are other looks I enjoy. I like it when a man is at least a little bit self expressive, showing some personality in his clothes and hair. I’m bi and I feel the same way with women.. I’m just bored when I see a basic bitch/basic bro.. and from my experience we often have little in common.

It depends on how he looks in those outfits. I personally don’t like sweatpants. To me it signals having given up on life. It’s sloppy looking. I know some women LOVE grey sweatpants for, erm, reasons. But I don’t.

A nice fitted T-shirt with fitted jeans and converse shoes are fine. I think dress shirts are often more attractive than tshirts with jeans, but it really is about the man in the outfit.

Don’t be sloppy. Wear fitted, clean clothes that are at least not unstylish. That’s all I care about.

I think the most important thing is being able to dress appropriately for the event/occasion. My husband mostly lives in cargo shorts and graphic/band tshirts. It's comfy, practical, and personally I think he looks good. For me it would only be a problem if he insisted on dressing like that to things like weddings, nice dinners, "events" that aren't just casual hanging out.
While he's a mostly very casual dresser, he enjoys getting dolled up for events and will take any opportunity to put a kilt on, which is pretty much a top tier attractive quality in a man.
