I've never really used OLD to begin with. So I'm not effected by this at all. I do think it will be nice for people to have companions even if they are generated chat bots.

But your goal in online dating is to move to real world as soon as possible. So if girl is refusing to do that then it doesn't matter if she's real or AI, she isn't good and you have to move on.

There is a solution to all of this: drop OLD and start meeting people in person. I think it’s important to remember that participating in all of this is a choice, and all this digital stuff has, so far, failed dramatically at making people connect, feel fulfilled and meet each other.

The solution to this isn’t more tech, it’s to step away from all this tech.

A common saying I like is “if you find yourself in a hole, the best thing you can do is stop digging”, the over-digitization of human relationships is the hole you’re in. Stop digging.

The most socially adept of us, have never stopped. I'm all for technology, but it can never replace another human being. I do think there will be a resurgence of 'third spaces' though. Once someone cracks the viability code, that sort of business premise will be social(and financial) gold.

This actually isn't difficult. It's a basic reputation system. One way it could work is that your friends vouch for your profile and then you see if there's a path between people you trust to the profile. This sort if thing can be augmented with companies/services that verify these things. Liars get burned and lose all reputation. It's actually an ancient problem (and has been hashed to death in the domain of public key cryptography). Its the same sort of system that controls SSL (how websites are authenticated).

Online dating is like sales and marketing, the faster you can close the deal on an in-person date the better off you will be. Opportunities don't last very long with 6 to 1 or worse ratios, you gotta move on it or lose it. So the people who are able to close the deal will still be getting the dates.

The part that will change is just more catfishing and romance scams hooking guys who are happy to just chat online forever.

People will still continue to date other people and AI partners won't change that. Small minority of people will use these AI girlfriends or boyfriends but by no means it will be more than 5% (probably even less) of the population.
