The sexual revolution only helps men who can get women consistently. I noticed this in many of my short term/FWB relationships with women as they were trying to either fuck their way into a relationship with me/to the top of social hierarchies, inadvertently giving more power to men who can attract women, all at the expense of the men they should actually be with. I can understand why lower status men are reluctant to get into relationships with these women, as I've personally seen first hand the bitterness they have for the men they have to settle with,and how easy it is to cheat with these women just for another chance or for validation.

I think that porn is liberating for a lot of people, especially men.

I generally have no issues with anyone wearing sexually revealing clothes in public, although I might find it distasteful at inappropriate venues. Also, I don't consider nudity automatically "sexual." Nudity should be normalized IMO.

Women are more sexually liberated than men and attitudes around female sexuality are moving steadily in the direction of sex-positivity, although it's not fully normalized everywhere. Seeing women as sexual beings is still not something that happens automatically, and the stigma associated with realizing women as such is diminished, but not fully erased yet in some areas of society. Otherwise, the various modes, perspectives, preferences and practices that women engage in are often praised as forms of female empowerment.

Men have the opposite issue. Men are seen as sexual beings automatically, but male sexually is far more demonized, shamed and pathologized and there is no current positive direction in the acceptance of male sexuality either, anywhere in society. Outside of the sex industry that really just wants to prey upon us as customers, men are very much second-class citizens when it comes to our sexuality in the larger society.

We need to sexually liberate men on par with women and destigmatize sexuality in America generally.

Many interesting questions for one post.

In private, two consenting adults can do whatever they want, as long as they don't break the law (for example, you can't give legal consent to someone killing and eating you). But otherwise I really don't care.

Porn is ok, if you don't want to watch it, don't watch it. I never seen the movie The Human Centipede, so I have no reason to criticize it. It's just not for me.

In public, people should behave in such a way that it is not too uncomfortable for others. Compromises have to be made.

Men and women are liberated and restricted each in a slightly different area. Women have worked a lot on their liberation in the past decades, probably ahead of men in certain aspects such as freedom in fashion or freedom of their gender role.

A liberal, sex-positive society is fine as long as respects law and is willing to bear increased personal responsibility for increased freedom. Which unfortunately doesn't work very well last years.

I think kink shaming is necessary for a respectable society - I actually don’t want people to be open about their beastiality, raceplay, CNC kinks etc. Be very, very ashamed of that. Imo Sexual appetite is much like normal appetite. Too much of anything is bad for you. As you continue going to extremes, you need more extreme material to get off.

I think there’s generally a status quo which should be followed. In some countries you need to cover head to toe and in other countries being half naked is normal. I don’t think there should be one uniform rule amongst all cultures, just whatever is agreed upon by the natives. I’d say in certain places women are more sexually liberated than men. It seems women can do no wrong when it comes to her sexual proclivities in some circles. In other places women are extremely sexually repressed and struggle with sex their whole lives.

We need to distinguish between moral and legal. LEGALLY I think consenting adults should be able to do what they way.

"Morally" however? Well there are kinks and relationship types that REVOLT me. However, I think these are better approached through a psychological/therapeutic prism than a moralistic one. The blunt reality is that if someone agreed to a 24/7 Total Power Exchange BDSM relationship, I would consider them pitiful and in some ways subhuman (and I would make that judgment of both the dom and the sub). But instead of going all condemn-judge-etc, I would wonder WHY the participants have such desires... there has to be some underlying mental health issue there. And I wouldn't morally condemn someone who had such desires due to traumas inflicted upon them or something.

So yes, there are limits on what I consider "mentally healthy."

But I don't believe shaming fixes these things. I mean given a lot of the subs in these dynamics are into being shamed, you're not going to cure them with kink-shaming! Its much more reasonable and humane to engage in kink-analysis (i.e. why they have these kinks) than kink-shaming.

Bring on ALL the porn, and most sexy clothing. Yes there are limits to what sexy clothing is tasteful. Degrading 'slutwear' looks awful. And some clothes are sexy and concealing. I may not personally be attractive but I won't turn down eye candy even if I resent my lack of hotness. As long as orifices-below-the-waist are concealed and the standards for tastefulness/acceptable nudity are gender-neutral I'm okay. I also think porn provides a great way to explore sexuality (even if in idealized form) and also attain sexual satisfaction in a perfectly-STD-safe manner that even non-sexy people can enjoy.

In modern western society women are sexually liberated and men are not. Most of our problems and issues are due to the fact that the sexual revolution is incomplete - it has not been extended to males.

We need more tolerance of male sexual fluidity, sex toys and porn for men. We need decriminalized and lightly-regulated prostitution. Hell, as much as I dislike the material, I would legalize loli and shota comics.

Yes, as long as it's consensual. There is a line between doing sexual things that can be considered taboo and abuse. When it gets blurry, that's when you should start questioning what you're doing. But making it more taboo than it is or, even worse, shaming, is not a solution to anything. We fought long to own our sexuality as humans, and we've never been closer to understanding it collectively and on an individual level.

Porn is just like many other things. Alcohol, gaming, gambling. Most people are able to use it in moderation and without it ruining their lives. But some aren't. And the availability of it for young children is certainly problematic. Wearing revealing clothes doesn't need to be sexual.

That really depends on where you are in the world. In the western world, it is generally not taboo to be sexually active, to talk about sex. But we lack the nuanced perspective on it. Sex education classes are still non-existent in the large parts of the progressive western part of the world and if they do exist, they are often just scratching the surface of what young people should be aware of. I think it's absolutely fine to not be open to talk about sex or active sexually, as long as it's your own choice, but everyone should at least be informed about the basics. Shaming is not okay, but it's a big topic, especially within some cultures that are incompatible with sexual liberation. I think there is a place for these cultures to exist in the world, and there should certainly be space for them, but the way they contain some of their people who do not resonate with their philosophies are problematic and I don't see any good solutions there other than education, education, education, which takes generations to have an effect.

This is a very complex question that cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. I think there is both too much and too little sex in society. We're presented with it in a very un-nuanced way. The importance of sexuality is stressed all around us, but we're not told anything essential about it. It's just: fucking, fucking, fucking. But very little about why and how. Very little about how to do it mindfully, how to protect oneself and be good for the other person. In a way I think that the mainstream society doesn't get the point of sex at all.

I don't think some sex acts are okay, i don't support porn or sex work.

BDSM gives me serious ick. (Sensation play is a cross over area imo- e.g. light spanking or biting - but not in a bdsm context).

I would ideally like to see a lot more sexual constraint than we have now, though the 'rules' might look different in a modern world than in past ones. We'd have to figure that out.

The problem, though, is that a culture or community needs the right institutions to encourage and enforce sexual restraint. But in the modern West, that toolbox is pretty depleted. Local community, religion, common customs, etc. are all weak or non-existent. Using only the law would be disastrous and overly authoritarian.

I am maximally sexually liberated. Everything you listed is fine with me. I have an open relationship, go to sex parties, and have a moral code i can't get into detail on reddit.

"Sexually revealing" clothing in public is not part of sexuality, it's part of fashion/expression/(group)identity. Bare tits in public are not about sex. Making everything about sex is the opposite of sexually liberated. Having sex in public is sexually revealing and while i have done it relatively discreetly, i think it's important to not infringe on other people's right to want to not be confronted with sex by other people.

Both sexes are free to live their sexuality however they want. At least where i live, in Germany. Are most people behaving sexually liberated? Of course not, and they don't have to. The goal is not to have everyone adopt a certain stance. I don't know about the US with its vast differences in prudeness and conservativism between different locations and communities.

Especially in the dating and mating context, there often is littel understanding and acceptance from women towards the sexuality of men. Women often expect men to share their sexuality and behave in a way that matches the woman's wants. There is no empathy or positivity towards male perspective. Women being the restrictive factor in male sexuality are in this power position that allows them to force men to behave like they want to, or reject the men. The women might not like male sexuality and it's accompanying behavior towards them, but it's just as valid as their own sexuality.

The ‘liberation’ aspect refers to restrictive arbitrary societal norms. I know tatted, muscular motorcycle-riding women that receive tons of attention but guys are still pretty heavily judged by the same norms they’ve always been like protector (height) and provider. I draw the line at anything that involves harming others. Sometimes people are abusive in the bedroom. Porn is a highly exploitative practice. Your sexual liberation shouldn't take away from that of others and I think some attempts at being sex positive brush this to one side. I think that, in general, our relationship with sex is too self-centred (it's all about what I want and others just need to say yes, it can be a bonus if they seem to enjoy it) and progress in sexual liberation would emphasise it as a shared activity, not one person gaining at the expense of another. This is especially true for men, I think.

I'm very liberal in my view of what people in general should be allowed to do. I'm not going to shame sex workers or people with extreme kinks as long as everything is between consenting adults. I think as a society we need to mind our own business more when it comes to sexuality.

In my personal life I am more moderate. I would be ok with my partner posting cute photos on her insta but not mostly naked thirst traps. I think that there are double standards for both genders, in that men who are virgins are judged for not sleeping with anyone and women that sleep with others are sluts, I don’t know if that will ever change but it would be interesting to see it happen. I don’t see a way to go back, unless you force people to, which is never okay.
