There are several advantages. You retain your solitude and space when you want it, and you can still spend as much time at each other's place as you want, leaving to go home, when you need time apart. Some say it keeps the relationship fresh, as you're seeing each other only when you want to, and generally when you're both at your best. You don't have to worry about divvying up housekeeping chores, or whether or not your partner is "doing their share".
