I think a lot of these comments are missing the point. NoFap is mainly about curing the addiction to/reliance on porn, rather than simply not masturbating at all. Sure, if you're beating off 1-2 times a day, every day, you will probably see more benefits by abstaining longer than 7 days - but I don't think that's necessary.

My personal belief is that one should completely cut out porn, but continue to get off. You can have as much sex as you like, but masturbation should be limited to 1-2 times a week (and you are not allowed to use porn).

For reference, I started NoFap last week, and am now 8 days in. I don't really feel much difference, but I've heard it can sometimes take upwards of 2-3 weeks before some people feel the benefits of ditching porn completely. I was never addicted to masturbation or porn (jerked it maybe every couple of days), but I definitely feel like I had somewhat of a reliance on porn to initiate feelings of sexual arousal. This culminated in an embarrassing situation this time last week, where I had a very attractive naked woman on top of me and I simply did not feel as aroused as I usually would have (to the point where my dick wasn't even hard). This was very uncharacteristic of me, and it scared the shit out of me, hence beginning the NoFap journey the day after.

Finally, a post in this sub to which I can contribute.

Long time Fapstronaut here. As I understand it, the reason the NoFap subreddit recommends going past the 7 day mark is that MOST MEN of the internet generation have been HOPELESSLY ADDICTED to porn and masturbation their entire lives and DON'T EVEN KNOW IT. I certainly was. Ever since I discovered masturbation at age 13, I did it practically every day, sometimes twice a day, until age 23. I never even fathomed it could be a problem whatsoever, since the mainstream (read: bluepill) myth is that "masturbation is normal and healthy". I had no clue at all until I tried to stop.

The recommendation is 90 days for a reboot. My first try, I lasted 2 days. It was excruciating! I simply could not stop! It took many, many tries to get to 90 days. After a 7 day streak, I feel amazing. I can vouch for all the benefits described on the NoFap sub, it was so dramatic to a lifetime addict that it really did feel like "superpowers". After every relapse, I feel like utter shit. It is as clear as night and day. Even with this knowledge, my scumbag addict brain tries every trick in the book to hamster me into fapping, even to this day.

So yes, the benefits peak around 7 to 14 days. But like an alcoholic, for a lifetime addict (read: most men of the internet age) total abstinence is the only way to go. When I fall off the wagon, I binge and it can take weeks to get back on track and get a streak going again.

Absolutely recommend NoFap 90 day reboot to any man that watches porn. If you don't believe me, try it, come back and tell me I'm full of shit. You won't.

I don't know, man. I'm on day 3 and almost fucking my own pillow. 80% of the conversations that I have with my plates/girl friends end up getting sexual. I hold eye contact with every girl that pass by me.

You start feeling the benefits after like 7 days in. Two to three weeks in, your brain is craving release so much you hit the so called flatline. Month in, the flatline is over. Here comes the massive increase in overal energy and what I have noticed the most: aggressivness. See, I never was an aggressive guy that was looking for a trouble on every corner, but lord, most of the days on second month I felt like I could fight a fucking grizzly or two at any moment. It's very simple: If you're having sex with any regularity you don't need to fap. The 90 day reboot isn't about testosterone peaks specifically, it's about breaking a habit, shifting your time priorities and developing some discipline (yeah I get OP you're very disciplined, some guys aren't). "I get wet dreams blah blah" suggests to me you're not having sex. I did a 90 day reboot and didn't wet dream once, because I was fucking.

I hit the hardline and stayed there for as long as I kept going. Sex was fine but I found that I wasn't ready for round 2 nearly as soon (the girl I was seeing exclusively was long distance so regular sex was only had during visits). Wanting to have sex again and not being able to be aroused was VERY frustrating. Before all of this I could do the deed and be ready to go again 5 minutes after or even close to immediately. I came to the conclusion that my sex drive just wasn't what it used to be and that it was due to me forcing my sexuality into submission instead of cultivating it carefully and using it to my benefit.

All in all, as with most things, the two extreme ends of the spectrum are terrible. My true path lies somewhere in the middle and I'm sure a lot of you have found the same.

I got to 73 days and I haven't seen the stupid magical powers that everyone has said.

I did however see less brain fog, I've been more focused on my goals and I've had more energy. Instead of sitting in my room stroking my skin flute I've been doing more productive things in that time.

I've also seen a rise in confidence in myself. But that could be from TRP or a mix. I've noticed women listen and pay attention to me more and some of my coworkers have been eye fucking me lately. I have more energy throughout the day and I just felt better about myself.

With that being said there was no oneitis just spreading her legs begging me to fuck her. None of that bullshit but just you feel better overall and get more shit done. That's what I've come to conclude of it at least but everyone is different.

I think it's healthy to an extent. So I did something about it. Instead of trying to just abstain completely I decided to do it once every 7-10 days. I have a set time and I use that time for masturbation. It is a healthy thing to do. I'd say try to participate in it for at least a week and just try to notice the significant changes it's made for you.

The main reason is to get rid of the porn and fapping addiction. The addicted do it several times a day, not just one a week as you write in your post. This way it creates a ton of problems, e.g. lack of motivation, zero sex drive, social anxiety, fetishes, neediness, nice guy, hair loss, etc

I went past hundred days and beside (mostly) curing myself I had a great life, especially after day 20 when horminess becomes less strong, but it is always there in the background and made me feel as a man who has desires.

As sexuality and women, to relate to your post, I had more dates during these four months than during the last four years. Without trying hard. I had a feeling that women sense it.

There is a reason successful people abstain from sex/masturbation for long periods of time. This is know since antiquity, until Freud came and said that by redirecting libidinal components/energy to other tasks, you can gain more energy (paraphrasing "Civilization and its discontents).

Is NoFap worth it if you are not addicted? Probably, if you do it once every 7 days. But that has nothing to do with NoFap itself, and everything to do with orgasm frequency; a fact that is well documented in peer-reviewed literature.

If you are addicted however, like I was, then it is something that should become a lifestyle. I will probably get ripped apart, but I don't care. I started masturbating during high school to pure fantasy. At 18 I got a computer and started using porn. Pretty vanilla stuff - back then Pamela's sex tape was all the rave. Then kazaa came and I started downloading like mad. Again vanilla stuff. During university, my daily routine was to study, then masturbate 2-3 times a day, to increasingly more hardcore porn. Stopped porn, stopped masturbating, stopped playing games, don't read news, devoured everything on red pill, meditate for 1 hour a day, go to the gym 6 days a week for an hour and 2 hours on Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Discarded all the poisonous people from my life (Law #10) and started hanging out with alphas exclusively. Have I had success with women during this time? No, because I choose not to pursue them and waste time, at least for a few months. I chose to forge stronger male friendships, work on lifting and expand my knowledge. Every day I die, every day I am reborn; I contemplate the fact that I will die and erased from this world every single day. TRP for me, was the glue that put all these things together. NoFap was just a large piece of the puzzle.

So is NoFap worth it? For ME totally. Not as a challenge, but as a lifestyle. No superpowers, none of that crap. What it has done is that it allowed me to reconnect with how I used to be before porn entered my life. Sharpened both my memory (e.g. I now remember stuff from when I was 4 years old and I am 27 now) and resolve. I redirected the 2 hours I was spending every day, to work and the gym. I had no physical issues (PIED, ED) etc. so I cannot comment on that. What I can attest to however, is the fact that the fetish train has no brakes. NoFap was the roadblock that stopped its advance. I refuse to remove that roadblock.

Don't think that anyone will even read this with 200 comments on this thread, but for whoever had the patience, do yourself a favor and stop porn completely. Remove that poison from your life; it's too short to waste it watching other people having sex.

The answer: It varies.

Some guys can jerk off and still be fine. Other guys go through a vicious cycle where if they jerk off once they just end up jerking off every day because they're addicted to the dopamine. The latter are the ones that should cut it out.

I have my own experience because I am the latter. I was jerking off 2-3 times a day every day for 5+ years (12-17). Ive been quitting porn and fap for 2 years. Honestly, as it became less of "nofap streak" and "I Don't fap" that's when I noticed the change. Like conditioning... When you get off with porn, two things happen. First you loose that "magic" juice that drives your engines. Second, you overload your reward system so much that it becomes numb.

7 days is about the first peak where you feel those so called super powers. Around that time you feel great, feel the energy pumping thru your veins. Women act differently around you. Than in 3 or 4 weeks another high comes. This is more intense and powerful than the first one. But this time is is almost too much to handle.

As other things in life everything should be done under moderation. So holding your domain between 7-14 days should be optimal.

But porn is another story, you should get rid of that no matter what

It's not just nofap. A lot of those dudes were addicted to porn on levels unheard of. It's for them to get off porn addiction and develop healthy sexual desires. Semen retention is a different story. I think this whole thing is broscience bullshit. If you're beating it 5 times a day, you've got a fucking problem. Your life WILL improve if you cut it back. If you're beating it once or twice, you might notice some slight improvements if you cut it down to 2-3x per week. Anything beyond that, seems fucking ridiciolous. I once tried this, and I went for 60 days. I made a promise that I wouldn't masturbate until a hand that was not my own touched my dick. (It was about 60 days until that happened, but that story is for later.)

I keep seeing all of these things about how it makes you feel better or gives you a boost. I can tell you that I felt none of these things; if anything, I felt worse. After a fortnight, I started noticing my focus slipping. Not just to sex, but to other, random things that I would not have normally allowed my mind to stray to. I began only doing it when the mood struck me, making no effort to keep to a schedule or routine. I made no conscious attempt to limit it or encourage it. And I found that I felt best when I listened to my body. There are some days where I do not masturbate; there are some days when I do so once. There are the occasional days when I do so more than once, but those are rare. I have found that since I began listening to my body, my mind is clearer and I am able to focus more clearly than before. My moods have stabilised, and I am able to keep my emotions under discipline.

in our society a lot of young dudes pretty much grow up with porn in their lives, and it warps them in a way that isn't natural. think of it as like a person who grows up taking some sort of drug their entire life, or someone who's been eating a certain type of junk food or soda all their life. usually an addict has to give that thing up forever otherwise risk a relapse, and there are dudes who believe the same thing with porn. i did a long nofap, like almost a year, and eventually made the decision to end it, and i actually kinda enjoy watching some wierd pornos with my girl. on the other hand experiencing nofap was one of the best thing i did for myself and it really is recommended for anyone new to trp to get their hands off their dick and out in the real world doing real stuff.

No fap is for hardcore addicts. People that watch porn for hours a day everyday, fap multiple times a day every day. The problem is all men seem to think they need no fap because they think their sexual appetite is somehow wrong when in fact it's normal.

I could ask the entire male population how many days out of the week would you want to get laid I can assure you 95 percent would say seven.

You ask if there is a benifit to no fap and I say for the average male no, there isn't one because once you get to day seven you lose your ability to focus in things that should be routine. You start looking at all women (even the ugly ones) as potential gain. I've done no fap and to tell you the truth it's a placebo effect past a week or two. There's no energy boost, no mental clarity, etc. After 7 days your body is in fuck mode and in my experiences when you are in fuck mode you tend to make mistakes that can last a minimum of 18 years, in more sever cases life.

No fap should be used to recharge your battery and nothing more. If you tell me that you are on day 3450 of no fap then you're telling me you have been castrated and are now a unic . There are a few good ways to cut down on porn or masturbation, going cold turkey is probably the most unhealthy.

Your routine should be a minimum of seven days.

At times you should try longer just to see what happens.

I find that seven days is the cycle your body seems best adjusted to in a relationship (not Fapping, but just normal sex) and so you should recreate that in your recreational off time.

Think of it this way...

If you were a woman with a monthly period would you want sex every day?

Probably not.

The best idea is to do a marathon fuck session during your girlfriends "horny time" and then give it a rest for a few weeks.

Get your Alpha fucks then ignore her.

I can give you an insight of the benefits of exceeding the 7 days, but bear in mind that I am 18 yr/o, so my energy and hormones are in a different state comparing to an adult.

It's been over a month since I last fapped and yes, it was fucking hard, but somehow I managed to turn that energy into running like a Jason Statham in Crank almost every day. The first week I was very productive.

After 7-14 days, as it was stated here, you begin seeing women as cold, frozen walking holes in which you must burry your burning dick to make the pain end. My energy was so high that I managed to lose weight even if I ate like shit.

The benefit would be that your body needs to relapse, but you can't jerk off because that would beat the purpose of Nofap. So you automatically start flirting with the majority of girls you encounter for the solely purpose of unloading your abortion into something.

The drawback is that you want to fuck, and want it now, so you are too direct, impatient and bitches sense that you are desperate. Unless you are ripped or lucky or you manage to control your urges, you are not going to fuck. I still have to work on this.

After a month it's basically over. Girls will no longer occupy your mind and you are no longer desperate to ejacualate. I, personally, still get a hard on every morning and I still want to fuck, but I'm no longer conditioned by this fact (as much as a man can use its will against human nature). This is very useful when going monk mode or when you want to work on a long project you've tought for a long time and bitches continuosly crawl under you dick and you feel the butterflies.

I am trying to say this for a long time already. Excessive masturbation and ejaculation affects some people more than others- usually those who have tendency to addictions or come from a stressful childhoods, our brain plasticity really can differ due to this.

Also current Western science still does not know a lot a lot of things and how everything is connected, sometimes something just opposes mainstream science and should be studied in other ways.

There are men out there who would probably kill me just by saying this and try to force me to believe that modern science does not show any correlation (YET!) - what can I do? You might not think of it as an addiction, but have you ever actually exercised the discipline it would take to totally refrain from sexual release of any kind for 3 months? Master yourself first, and then see what it does to your game.

NoFap just like TRP is all about improvement. Yes, the incentive (read: end goal) is pussy, but as time passed I noticed it became more about helping myself and eliminating an addiction that had been quietly breaking me for years, and I didn't even notice. If you watch porn and jack it, try it out. Worst case scenario, you make it a day and give in, in that case, you should probably pursue NoFap. Best case, you find it easy to cut out the porn, in which case it was never a problem for you in the first place but to say that NoFap has no merit is just bullshit. Currently on my longest streak as of yet, and although it's only been three weeks I feel better than ever. I can say in confidence that NoFap is a game changer.

It's just occured to me that part of the appeal of NoFap is that it's basically tantric edging without the actual touching your penis part.

For someone addicted/desensitized by porn to the point it's affecting their "real" sex life, I can see the point of no-fap. Seems that they would get the same benefit by just cutting out the porn, but it's a little bit like a recovering alcoholic - don't go to a bar if you're trying not to drink.

However, porn aside, couldn't the same benefits be achieved in other ways?

For example, zinc deficiency lowers testosterone. Semen is a prime way to lose zinc, along with other essential minerals. Most people don't get enough zinc, or other minerals, through their diet. In those cases, I can see why strict no-fap helps - biological and nutritional deficiencies being gradually corrected over hundreds of days, resulting in higher testosterone and balanced estrogen levels, resulting in higher drive and mental clarity etc.

For those who aren't nutritionally deficient, e.g you supplement with zinc because you lift weights, no-fap probably doesn't have the magical powers some experience. Personally it just puts me into irritable caveman mode and I can't accomplish anything, and get way too socially aggressive.

Or if low libido is a problem, why not just supplement with libido boosters e.g maca or ashgwanda/KSM-66? Best of both worlds.

Your post and answers seem to carry a lot of rationalization, you're talking harshly about the no fap community that seem to be trapped into rules and dont want to change their view but as a popular saying suggest it, when you're blaming someone for something make sure you don't have the same flaws they have.

Only yourself can judge if it's worth it or not for you, so do it, go for the full 90 days or more and then reflect the good and bad about it.

So skimming through most of the comments and I can come up with a conclusion that most people DO benefit from a 3-7+day period of abstinence.

There were one or two who did not feel the benefit and even felt it being a negative in the long term (60+ days).

So in essence, it stands to good reason that one tries NoFap due to the overwhelming majority of TRP users finding it has a net positive affect on their lives through metrics such as mood, libido, focus, etc.
It's of course a good idea that one listens to their own body when testing NoFap, as everyone is different so therefore everyone should to some extent act differently.
For example, one may reset quicker than others, other longer than others. For Joe it may be 10 days, for Fabrizio it might be 5 days. Experiment, see what works for YOU and repeat.

I'll weigh in here, even if it gets buried underneath a mountain of replies.

I've done nofap dozens of times. The longest I've gone is just under a year, I've done two lots of three months and I've done miscellaneous lots ranging from a few days to a few months. I've done the Stalin method (I got it from old school fastseduction for those who remember that lol) where you masturbate to the brink then stop daily. I found with that method, the ramp up in effects is far, far faster. I'd be so horny I'd get hard from eye contact sometimes... the thing with doing it though is I can't go too long, one or two denials to the max, otherwise I get ED. Also it takes ages. The normal method peaks around 7-10 days, the Stalin method gets to the same level in 3-4 and IME, doesn't fall off as dramatically. From normal method I'd lose my sex drive after a month or two, but Stalin method seemed to stave that off a bit.

Damn that's a terrible name...

I've also read all of the research on it (that I've found) mostly after I stopped doing it. The study everyone cites about the 7th day spike in testosterone is likely bullshit. The authors said themselves it was probably a measurement error- I'm almost certain it's in the discussion of that paper but it might be in the reply they made in a journal, it's been two years since I've read these. The other studies show far larger and more consistent spikes after ejaculation than abstaining. I'd say the reason to abstain from jacking it is self control, not actually spiking your testosterone. There are way better ways to do that.

Having said that, I definitely feel more masculine when not masturbating. I think there are other unstudied benefits. Also, hormonally, the decrease in prolactin is probably huge and definitely helps ED.

Either you graduate to adult sexuality or you continue to have womenkind or superstitious stories own your sexuality. 2) You are susceptible to making stupid, life altering or ending or debilitating choices because you are physically desperate . If you'll do anything for pussy because it's your only outlet or release, you are easy to control and enslave.

From a health and sexual performance standpoint, the evidence going back as far as the 50s is strongly weighted towards masturbation being good for you. 1) Prostate Health 2) Ejaculatory ans Sexual Control 3) Vascular, Pelvic Floor and Penile Health, 4) Psychological well being (related to control)

Why do NoFapper's go past day 7? They even admit the testosterone declines after Day 7. They all talk about the 'hardline' where you feel like utter shit and lose your sex drive.

Is there a benefit of going past the 7 day mark?

This is not an attack on NoFap. Even those against it will agree that sexual energy builds when its not being released. I just want to know why people take it way past the hardline phase?
