as a (long time) married man I have but two things to say:

There are friends that are friends of your marriage, and then there are personal friends. friends of opposite gender that fall into the latter category can not be tolerated by the SO if the marriage is to survive. simple.
The fuckup in this case is much earlier: she chose to keep - officially - a friendly relationship with another guy even though he objected to it. Unless the other guy is family (or hell, even if he was family), if I asked my wife to stop seeing a guy as I had a bad feeling about it, and she refused to accomodate my expressed wish, I'd take that under advice and act accordingly (read: my trust in you having our best interests in heart went out the door).

edit: as a follow up: my wife has been more then forthcoming on a lot of shit pulled by people supposed to be "my" friends over the years. Actually proved to be quite useful and thus I trust no man to not try and pull something when I'm not looking, and at the same time ensure my wife is never left in a bad situation for "too long" for anything bad to happen. The primary reason TRP cautions against severely controlling behaviors is because they shouldn't be necessary. If your frame/game are tight, she isn't going to argue with your reasonable restrictions. If you are trying to control her to the point where she has absolutely zero chance to misbehave, you are insecure in yourself and your relationship.

I commented on something like this a few days ago. TRP is a little muddled on this issue. Feminist hamsters shame any man who tells his wife that they should not have the other men around (and I don’t mean talking to their old friend from high school, I’m talking late night 2 hour text sessions and meeting for lunch 1-3 times a week, or being “friends” with an ex who has banged her). I wish this guy did not live in CT because, for a lucky few out there that live in the right state, legal vengeance could be had. I'd make this next part it's own post, but this is a new account and I want you all to know this (I lurk here every day, and have been for the past 7 months. 4 months ago, I created this account to share my stories and opinions, but...I never got around to it. Maybe next time).

In certain States, you can sue the shit out of the person that your spouse cheated with and, essentially, literally cross examine the cheater and adulterous spouse. This is to be used by those lucky few who want to basically destroy everything. Enough build up: you can sue the person your wife cheated on through a tort known as alienation of affection.

This was a rule back in the day, but 42 states abolished it. It was essentially a repercussion for infidelity (a "revenge law"), though it punishes the person your spouse cheated with (so, guys, be careful). The law came about under the view that women were property (though a woman could sue a man for the same thing, at least in this day and age. I mean, you can theoretically sue a priest for advising someone to get divorced).

This essentially means, you can take your spouse's lover to court. Just as any normal trial, you can call witnesses, direct examine and cross examine them. Per the link above, this is devastating. You can watch your lawyer grill the shit out of both your spouse and their lover. You can destroy them in court. If you lose, who cares? You basically just let the entire court room know how fucked up and terrible your spouse is (for those of you concerned about painting the lover in a bad light, you could always get your SO on the stand first, air all of their shit on the record, in court, and then settle with the lover for $1.00). If you win, you get damages.

Note: In some states, you can also sue for criminal conversion (though it is not a criminal action. It is still civil, but you only have to prove marriage and sexual relations with a third party).

How It Works

The laws may differ a bit depending on the state, but in general the spouse who's suing has to prove:

*The spouses were married and there was love and affection in that marriage

The "cheating" spouse alienated or *withheld love and affection from the suing spouse

*The "other man" or "other woman" caused or helped to cause the alienation

*The "other man" or "other woman" knew or should have known his or her conduct would cause the alienation

The suing spouse doesn't have to prove the other spouse and the "other man" or "other woman" had a sexual relationship.

Money Damages for the Spouse Who Sues

The suing spouse may be awarded compensatory damages if the spouse wins the case. This is money to pay for the actual loss of the other spouse's affection and companionship, as well as loss of support. Mrs. Shackelford was awarded $5 million in compensatory damages.

The suing spouse may also get punitive damages, which punish the wrongdoer. For these damages, the suing spouse has to prove the "other man" or "other woman" acted willfully and maliciously. Mrs. Shackelford got $4 million in punitive damages, presumably because she proved her claims that Lundquist actively and deliberately set-out to seduce Mr. Shackelford, knowing he was married.

Criminal Conversion May Be an Alternative

Criminal conversion is similar to alienation of affections, and it's just as rare. Only North Carolina, Illinois, Mississippi, New Mexico, and South Dakota have such a law. Again, the innocent spouse sues the other spouse's partner. Despite its name, it's not a "criminal" action. It's a civil action, just like alienation of affection or the run-of-the-mill personal injury lawsuit.

To win in this type of case, the suing spouse needs to prove:

*The other spouse had a sexual relationship with the "other man" or "other woman"

Essentially, in this type of suit, the suing spouse claims the "other man" or "other woman" stole sexual relations that rightfully belonged to the suing spouse.

A spouse may sue for alienation of affection and criminal conversion at same time. It appears, however, Mrs. Shackelford chose not to sue Lundquist for conversion.

Your Options

Unless you live in one of the handful of states, your options are limited when it comes to dealing with an unfaithful spouse. You can either try to work things out and save the marriage, or you can get:

*Legally separated. This is an option in most states. It allows you and your spouse to stay married, but you'll live separately and a court will decide matters such as child custody and support, alimony and property division. Later, you can reconcile and resume living together if you wish

*Divorced. This is the legal termination of the marriage, and a court will decide child custody and support, alimony and property division In states like North Carolina, you may have other options, and your bank account may get fat, but the odds are the outcome will be the same: The end of your marriage.

Can someone please explain the solution to the real problem is. Im a believer that all male orbiter 'friends' are trying to fuck your woman if given the chance. BUT, what is the solution? I have a hard time believing that 'telling' your LTR to remove them from her life is the way to go. What does that solve? She no longer texts them, she just sees them at work?
