Men, this guy is your primary adversary in seduction. It isn't that he ever gets the girl, but he is the guy every girl is thinking about when you approach her. She wants to know if you are him, and she is looking for clues. If she suspects that you are him (and he has shown up in her life before, always with a different face but basically the same entitled behavior) then she is going to do what she can to be polite while she looks for the door. She's not "leading you on". She is placating your ego while she works out an escape route.

This is a big part of why a lot of why a lot of modern pickup techniques work. If you say you're meeting a friend in ten minutes or use some other time based limitation for the interaction, what you are really communicating is "Here is your exit strategy. If you aren't interested in taking it further in this set amount of time then you'll be free to walk away and I won't follow you."

One of my favorite games to play early on is extreme positive consent seeking. May I sit here? Can't I ask you a question? Here, I'll show you how it's done, can I touch your hand? The main idea of it is to get her saying yes to a lot of little advances in the first few minutes to develop a consistency bias during the rapport building stage, but the other part of it is that a "no" is followed by absolute acceptance and a shift in tone and topic. The idea there is to be as far removed from That Guy as possible. It's approaching the end of the date, you put a hand to the small of her back and pull her close, lean in 90% of the way for a kiss, then just as she is about to close the other 10%, shift direction to her ear instead and whisper "may I kiss you?", and if she whispers back "no", step back, offer a hearty handshake, tell her you had a great time. Aside from being a massive tease and a bit of fun, it also shows you aren't so invested that you'll punch her when you don't get your way.

This isn't a game you play with every girl, but for a girl who has just come out of a controlling relationship or is just sick of guys telling them what to do, there is no stronger aphrodisiac than saying "no" and having it respected. I admit, it sounds fucking ridiculous, but I've found it is a very effective way of encouraging a girl who is already interested to lower her guard and break her own rules about what she will and will not do on a first date.

Key point on this: don't do all of this and then be a pushy dick who can't take no for an answer once you are in bed together. Set the tone and stick to it.

Giving a fake number and ignoring texts are good options. However, ignoring a text is one of those things that doesn't apply to this specific situation of a person to person ask out, since by that point they're texting.

I went on a date with a girl once and she told me "I'll call you later" and I knew what that meant. She later texted me to say she wasn't getting 'that spark'. I was relieved that she handled it that way because she did the work for me that I was probably eventually going to have to do myself. The pictures on her profile looked 10 years younger than her actual in person self. She was not in shape and not an interesting person. I downplayed my value in a humble way during the date and still gave her an honest shot where maybe other guys wouldn't. She seemed bent on career related questions implying that she was looking for a certain level of career status at or above her own level. She bragged and carried herself as if she was better than me. Her 'management career' is one that she only has because her parents got her into the job, so, kind of a complete sham - why can't people, men and women, be humble in acknowledging this kind of stuff rather than flex on it? Still, if she was able to genuinely see me for me I maybe would've given her a chance so I left it open. In the end, I was glad that she didn't feel 'that spark' i.e. incorrectly estimated my net worth to be lower than hers based on what she inferred from meeting me one time.

And I think this is the most frustrating part for some men - women do not even give guys a chance anymore at all and it can be frustrating because sometimes they might be talking to a guy and not give him a chance even though this guy might be exactly what she's always wanted. She just doesn't know it yet, and she won't know it, and this is because she takes one look at a guy in person or on a profile and within two seconds says no. Reading this article about guys punching you in the face actually reinforces women to remain fearful and insta shut guys down.

In this situation from the article, most men are not at all like the kind of guy who would even punch a girl ever, but the take away from the article and the framing of it, like so many today, is, again, beware of men who are 'as a whole bad agents'. If you remove the gender context it's still low key fear mongering. At every level, why is the media always telling us to be afraid of each other? People are better than that on both sides pretty much 99% of the time. This is not to say that this event didn't happen. This in no way attempts to excuse the behavior of this truly awful man. That being said, the media preys on exactly this kind of horrific shit. I find that suspicious and toxic to society. And it seems calculated.
