Organically. Date someone after being just friends for a while so you have a grasp on their intentions. Live your life for you and fill your time with doing things that make you happy and youll attract/meet other people with similar hobbies. Get comfortable with being alone and when you stop looking for it the right person will eventually fall into your lap.

Friendships turning into romantic relationships is a lot more common than most Redditors believe, at least based on what current research shows.
[–]Ragnarok992 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
All i got from my “friends” was the zone so i doubt it specially when most women always say that men should let them know on the first day what we want or become a friend
[–]_LilDuck 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Honestly it's probably both. Hear me out, that may sound stupid. But since people generally are monogamous and (we'll assume) enter long term relationships for the purposes of being with the person for a long time, we can therefore conclude that its not really a case of "some good proportion of friends become spouses" but rather "just find one friend who becomes your spouse" if that makes sense. This is further supported by the fact that people, unlike long term relationships, have more than one friend, and hopefully more than one friend of the opposite / attracted / whatever gender.
So basically, to put it in probabilistic terms, the probably of friends becoming couples is pretty low but the probability of couples originally being friends is much higher. So what should you draw from this? It's totally valid to couple up with your friend. A lot of people end up doing that. It's also fine if you get friend zoned. Even more relationships are like that. Not a big deal. Just play the game, if you like a girl, then maybe push the button a little bit. Flirt a bit. Have fun. Good times :D
[–]macroxela 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
That may be your personal experience but the data shows that's not always the case nor is it a minority.
[–]Ragnarok992 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Is a bit of both, personal, asking around and reading what women post here on reddit
[–]macroxela 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You're relying on confirmation bias though. I used to think the same but after talking to several married and partnered people I know, I realised a significant amount of them were friends before being couples. It could be that you're simply not realising how many of the coupled people you know were friends beforehand. Or you are one of the rare ones that only knows people who aren't coupled or only coupled ones who weren't friends before (which is doubtful).
[–]_LilDuck 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think it's also a conditional probability thing with this discussion. I could also be wrong or tired
[–]prettyyxhurts 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I personally dont know how anyone could know on the first day of speaking to/hanging out someone if they definitely want to be more than friends or not. Communicating attraction before wasting eachothers time can be important but not vital to talk about that soon in my opinion. On the flip side- Nobody wants to be strung along by someone who cant ever give a clear sign of what their intentions are and cant commit so maybe thats why youre making that assumtuption that all women want to know your intentions on the first day or maybe im not fully understanding what youre saying. If someone wants to date me after a week i think i think theyre making a hasty decision but if we have been hanging out and flirting for 8 months and nothing is getting serious then that sucks too. Ive ended up in some crap relationships by moving into that stage with someone too quickly. Attraction and capatability are unequal more often than not. Im sure it can happen but I've never seen any successful relationships come from skipping getting to know people before making a romantic commitment to them

I ruined a 12 year friendship by dating for 6 weeks. Best regards lol
I dated a good friend of a 10 years and we're still friends but it doesnt work that way for everyone and im sorry that happened to you! When i say be friends with someone first i dont mean date your life long best friend, i mean dont go dating someone you knew for 2 weeks. Hang around someone for a few months so you know they arent garbage before getting romancially involved is usually a good idea.

[–]Khower 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The apps are cool and all but I’ve found the time exchange just better suits IRL interactions. I’ve interacted with plenty of people on apps and it just feels like an inefficient use of time compared to just building a social life and meeting new people and just letting dating work for you. And I’m a good looking dude with a fun personality and a lot of depth, I’m not even sure how shittier the apps would be if I didn’t have those things going for me but deleting them stopped me from being lazy about meeting people and was one of my better decisions
[–]PuroPincheGains -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
If you ask people out within 3-5 messages and next them when it's not gonna happen you don't waste anymore than 20 minutes a day. It's not a waste of time unless you're sitting there doing nothing but swiping all day.
[–]Khower 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I still disagree. I find more attractive and compatible women with less time invested in person than I do on apps and I’ve found using apps makes me a little more complacent with doing social things because I can find girls that fit the bottom of my standards on there

Be honest and clear about what you want. Don't do anything you don't enthusiastically want. It's okay for things not to work out.
Think of what your ideal partner would be interested in and become it. Think of where'd they be, and be there. Most of us at your age are trying to add body count. Take accountability for your role, but realize that you can't control it all.
Find a better community to ask. This is apparently becoming a butthurt community of slut shamers.
[–]renagadeV290 55 points56 points57 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It might be you. Many of the guys the that you’re mentioning that are looking for a relationship want someone with good sense of who they are. Unfortunately many young girls lack a personality or even a hobby. If you want a great guy you’re going to need to be a great girl.
[–]WhiteningMcClean 21 points22 points23 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It sounds bitter, but this is where it all starts. If a guy wants to get laid, the first thing he has to do is BE someone who women will want to sleep with. If you're looking for a relationship, you have to turn that on its head. You need to BE someone that the right guy will want to spend time with outside of the bedroom.
Every girl I've gotten serious with, or wanted to get serious with, has had passions, goals (even if they're modest,) and a good sense of humor. Things that make me enjoy spending time even when no sex is involved. Be clear about your intentions when meeting guys, but make sure you bring the right things to the table first.
[–]Ambitious-Ice2357 30 points31 points32 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
This is probably going to be unsettling to read, but most college guys are incapable of thinking about anything except sex. Most guys are not even going to think about a relationship until after they’ve had sex with you. I would suggest looking to volunteer for something you care about, or if you’re religious, church socials might be a good place to meet single guys, especially if you have no interest in having sex.
[–]onyekaboy27 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Funny because I’ve been trying to get a girlfriend but most girls in college aren’t looking for relationships lol
[–]Ambitious-Ice2357 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don’t know your circumstances and I’m years out of college, but I know when I was a college student I wanted to fuck everything that moved. It was like having a perpetual boner. I think women in college generally and rightfully assume that’s all men are looking for. So, if they’re not looking to hookup, they’ll generally keep to themselves and avoid guys altogether.
[–]Canttakethewhyfromme 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
To follow on this...pretty much all straight men around that age want sex. This doesn't preclude a meaningful relationship though. Guys tend to be more shallow about physical appearance, so ie if you are a 7 and the guy you are with is a 9 and he has attractive girls constantly hitting on him....he is more likely to just be using you for sex. Whereas, if the guy is a 7, and a little shy, he will still absolutely want sex, but there is a much better chance that he will also be interested in a relationship. And when I say relationship, I mean, getting to know each other better, while still having regular sex, and then determining if you are a good match for each other.
[–]whipstickagopop 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So, guys are shallow about physical appearance when it comes to relationships, but not shallow when it comes to sex?
[–]Canttakethewhyfromme -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Most are shallow about physical appearance and sex, that has nothing to do with a relationship though. A starving person will want to eat food, they won't care much about the food, they just need to eat (sex). If you feed him regularly, he may be able to determine what kinds of foods he likes (love). Just because he needs to eat, doesn't mean he won't appreciate good food. Whereas, someone at an all you can eat buffet (handsome, rich men) probably won't appreciate that 3rd piece of cake as much as the starving man would.

[–]ChoppedBelAir 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m sorry if this is not the answer you want. Most young men are interested in woman’s body’s and sex by default because of biology, however that said you will find someone eventually who values both your intellect and attracted to you physically.
[–]Evol_Etah 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Imo, this is easy.
Most girls I've talked to. All they do as hobbies is "TV, Netflix, drawing, sleeping" or anything else generic.
Talk to other about stuff you like. Verbally say it, and you'll meet people similar. Peeps be talking about the weather and movies. Like dude. We all know and saw it. Again show you aren't generic.
Give everyone a chance, but start and verbally say you wanna be platonic friends or something. Finally after a while, if you feel like you like a guy. Ask him out.
[–]Dapper-Conversation8 22 points23 points24 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Seems like you give of a "let's be fuck buddies/let's have fun" type of vibe.
From my experience, 95% of the time girls days "they want me for my bdoy" are girls who walk around half naked, going to bars, and are super touchy and horny all the time.
Before asking about others to take you seriously, ask yourself. Are you giving off vibes of wanting sor.thign real? Are you respecting your own body? And arent a walking porn ad? If you can respect yourself dont expect others to. I had girls like this in my life. Easy quick fuck if so I wish. I dont even go for these girls. I have standards.
Hope you arent this way, but 95% of the time you are.
It's like on tik tok. Look at all the girls who dance in bras and skin tight leggings / bikini , and then complain that men sexualised her and all the comments are about her body.
[–]CloutComputing 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I find that interesting as well, because my sister is 21 and I don't think she's unattractive, yet she doesn't really date anyone (lives at home), and I could never imagine hearing her say something like that. It could Be because she's slightly socially awkward, but it could also be that she doesn't trust everyone.
[–]Dapper-Conversation8 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Believe me bro, you're sister is one much better path than many many many women today. Better to be socially awkward and open up to very few people, one being future spouse, than be the town's party life and give every 3rd dick onto eh street its turn. I have some real expericen with some hoe girls, I wish your sister to go nowhere near anything like that.
[–]janusz_z_rivii 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The question is if those hoes are unhappy with themselves? Because many socially akward people often are.
[–]Dapper-Conversation8 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Being on either extreme of the scale isnt good. And overall hoes arent happy. They may be happy in the moment, but check statistics, pools, public speaking domains, chatting groups, etc... and in the long run they srent happy and they regret their past.
It's good to not be socially awkward either. Overall though, it's better to be socially awkward than to be a hoe. I feel like its like asking, weed or crack?
[–]Dapper-Conversation8 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
21 is young. She doesnt need to be dating and be outside thehouse. She needs to focus on her life and developed her character and personality. Fucking around isnt what society makes it sounds like. Remember this society has 60% divorces, 70% cheating rates, and overall >60% unsatisfactory marrige and relationship rates.
So stay inside and work on yourself. Dont be the town's gardening hoe.
[–]brianbria 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The bulk of a relationship IS sex. If you takeout sex then essentially you are just looking for a platonic friend. So be clear, because if you want a boyfriend, you can't downplay the importance of sex in getting a boyfriend.

Have you considered that some of the guys may not be shallow and do value personality, but you just have an underdeveloped, boring personality?
Make sure you explore interests, ideas, and views to make yourself more deep as a person. The more interesting you are as a person, the more people are interested in you for your personality. It needs to be “the most interesting thing about you” as they say.
A lot of the time someone can be super attractive, but honestly really difficult to even converse with cause their personality is repulsive. Nobody wants to pass up on an unusually beautiful person though, so as a result, they try and get what they can out of the situation and use them for their looks. Don’t let that be you. Good luck!

You have to find a way to meet alot of new people. Things will probably progress from there, but you just need to meet and date alot to find the right person. Dating apps or college activities could work. You could also just be more social with guys in your classes. Think about talking to them right before and right after class. You have anything related to the class as conversational material.
When you meet a guy who seems like he could be worthy, make subtle gestures that you like him. This is what women always did to me. Show him a little extra attention that gives him a sign you may be interested, see if he takes the lead from there. Unfortunately, some guys are completely lost in this area, so you may have to take more initiative in moving things forward.
I can give you a bunch of game related ideas to deal with the mindsets that can help, but that would be over the top. Just know that you can adapt mindsets where if someone isn't interested you really don't care. Don't make a big deal about it. In game we call this outcome independent. Embrace the chaos of that social dance of seduction. Learn to laugh at it all. Don't look at it as rejection. Find a way to make it fun. The more fun you can make that social dance, the better. Learn to laugh at yourself and the world around you.
When you start dating, be direct about what you want. Don't scare the guy away, but if he's just looking to get laid, try to find that out. His friends and how they act could also be warning signs. But, don't be too judgemental. Its the dating game. Its not perfect, but with some effort you can find what you are looking for.

Dating culture has made us only stick to the people we find attractive...so I think when someone is obviously there to be your significant other you cannot find depth in them in the initial meetings...so it ultimately gets down to the attraction the guy initially felt for you(as you said every guy seems to be interested in your body)
But eventually when things fade out and you get to know more about their actual self, you will fall in love with them(hopefully).
This ofcourse doesn't means that every guy has "depth" to them..some are really there for sex that time you should go with your instincts and your judgement about him from those few meetings
[–]vibemaster222 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Maybe go on dating sites that are aimed towards finding relationships and committed marriages, Tinder dosent count. Obviously avoid the ones that are mostly hookups or have a bad wrap around them.
You also need to communicate your wants and boundaries early on when its made obvious that the talking is headed in a direction.
I think you shouldn’t view guys as EITHER they care about me OR want my body. The truth is even the best guys will have a bit of both at different times.
Theyre kind of espérate things in a way. Every guy who talks to you romantically will want you for your body.
Then once you accept that then you can focus on choosing a caring guy. This type of guy mostly will not be found at a bar or online dating tho it’s possible. But don’t be surprised to just get used by guys from here.
The best type of guys are ones who you meet at jobs, from friend groups, or at academic classes/groups, or lastly from active/fitness group activities. Make sure you would be a friend with them as well and aren’t just acting based on attraction, because what keeps you together after is the fact that you can become best friends.

Where’s the best place to find a guy that’s to my ideal?
Well, what does your "ideal guy" do? Is he nerdy? Start going to board game events. Is he athletic? Play a sport. Is he well read? Go to book clubs.
If you meet somewhere that's not a bar or a party, where you can be friends first and bond over shared interests, that's when you make a real emotional connection that's not superficial.
Pro tip: if you're only talking to guys who talk to you first, it DRASTICALLY increases the chances that you're meeting men who are on the prowl. A lot of men who cold approach you have motives you're trying to avoid (take it from yours truly, I've been one). It's the quiet guys who you need to make the first, and sometimes second moves with, who will be interested in emotional connections. These are the guys who are not looking at women around them as potential takes, but as people and friends. They won't always contextualize conversation with you in a sexual way the first time, and will only do so once you get to know them.

Just expand your pool of communities that you are around. Go out and explore and learn “guy type” activities. You will eventually meet like minded men that think like yourself, also be honest and ask them out (we guys don’t mind) guys like direct attitudes and we don’t mind being approached. Most young guys are superficial in their early 20’s so that’s gonna be a challenge… you might wanna date guys who are different from what you normally like and maybe drop some of your standards. I’d start at work, community event, gyms, low key bars…

The truth is, since sex became the deal of the day and easy to get, most people assume thats what everyone is looking for. Do what pleases you, your hobby or so, get into interactive discussion when you go out and not hey bet you cant sleep with that girl kind of talk.. The truth is when once a guy notice how smart and reserved you are(not like a old lady Spider-web), when you speak and act, that seperates you from the menu of drop-down skirt, kind of gal. basically be yourself, dont over do it.. and dont be boring, if you are do it in a never seen boring way😊😊. Be what seperate the "lets just fuck" to " yes we can have that, but i aint in a hurry"

if you're "only" looking for an emotional connection, good luck. What you want is a friend.
I'm not saying that "herp derp men only wana smash", I'm saying that romantic relationship normally is more than platonic. A healthy romantic relationship has everything: sexual desire, passion, friendship, support, stability, mutual help, etc. Specifically not wanting the relationship to be sexually healthy means you're just looking for emotional support and connection. I. e. a friend.
Besides all this - just be genuinely interested in what people have to say. And if you see potential in someone, ask more questions, show some care, add a bit of physical touch, flirt a bit. But if you're not interested in having a sexual inside that relationship, it will be hard to show interest.

Meet people through friends, hobbies, clubs, or events. If you do things you enjoy doing, you’ll meet people similar to yourself.
Make your personality match your body. Hot body, amazing person.
You're going to have a hard time finding a guy who has depth and is also interested in an emotions-only relationship.
Sex is natural and the people who don't want sex are a much smaller pool than the people who need sex for it to be considered a relationship.

The best way to find a boyfriend, that actually likes you for who you are, is to join social groups which are based on your interests. That way the person already likes something about you from the start. You may have to do the asking out in this method.

Lol just go through life. Be yourself and focus on your goals and what makes you happy. Your hobbies interests etc. And the right person will come along. I find when I'm seeking a relationship and looking. I either settle for the wrong thing or I come off too strong as If I'm trying. Let things happen naturally let the relationship find you. Be patient. Your still young. As far as dating apps I recommend hinge.

You should probably ask somewhere else. This is not a place for ‘interested only in emotional connection’ - it’s called r/seduction.

You sound very shallow and self centered. Maybe the problem is you.
