What is the difference between r/mensrights and this sub?

r/mensrights is not well moderated and it's intended that way, mods there just let upvotes and downvotes do the job and they don't intervene unless something extreme happens
Because of poor moderation and larger member base you encounter a lot more low effort posts and weird comments
Nearly half of r/mensrights members identify as left wing or progressive while most people in r/leftwingmaleadvocates identify as left wing or progressive

These are the differences I have observed, I used to be more active there but I've been enjoying this subreddit more recently even though I don't actually call myself a leftist, since r/leftwingmaleadvotes is more civil and has less drama.

I think that a lot of the time we end up talking more about cultural issues which can’t really be quantified as “rights”…the empathy gap, social reinforcement of traditional gender roles only for men, etc.

In my experience /r/mensrights is where people go when they first realize that feminism was never truly going to help men.

They feel betrayed, hurt, angry. They tend to be very vocal about the injustice of it, the blatant sexism of the feminist movement, the cruelty heaped upon men just for being born men.

And that's important to have. Men have been betrayed by feminism. It is entirely valid to be furious about it. But after a while that fury fades, and people start thinking about the issues rather than just being angry about them. This sub is a lot better at doing that.

I feel like when a sub like mgtow get banned they flock there. Plus there is definitely a subset on mensrights that is right wing. It’s a pretty even split.

Very few people come to mens rights as a natural occurence, frequently it's because of a traumatic event, divorce where they got screwed by the courts, police involvement where they got treated like dirt, something that caused them to realise there is an underclass in modern socierty, men.
The usual landing spot for that is /r/mensrights, so you see a lot of outrage posts there of the "this shit just happened, wtf do I do now?" variety where someone needs to vent and there is nowhere else that will allow it. Posters here don't seem to have that outrage so presumably more of them come because of a political realisation thana personal event.

Mens-rights tends to be more right wing in politics, There are quite a few posters who think it's left-wing policies that are causing the problems they face. Whereas here, it's in the name.

Finaly mens-rights seems to be more evolved as a sub, they recognise the organisations that are opposing any progress for mens rights around the world and are willing to name them. Here they still seem to be trying to be open minded about it, which imo will limit their effectiveness for now.

Hmm I saw the post in r/mensrights too. One of the commenters stated we were something like feminism with extra steps, which is definitely not true (see the mission statement). Here, we give self-proclaimed feminists (and also the prominent bad-apples) a rather hard time. There seems to be more generalisations over at MR sub too, here any generalisations of women will be removed.

r/Mensrights has more free-flowing anger than this sub does. This isn’t a moral or value judgement, just an observation that I’ve made while going back and forth between the two.

The topics there also tend to be more oriented around injustices and malevolences directed at men and boys at the hands of society and the culprits behind these problems.

As such conversations there tend to be far more blunt and they do not hold back. They are far less concerned about being perceived as misogynistic. If you see misogyny in their discourse then that is a “you problem” rather than theirs.

The atmosphere here in r/LeftwingMaleAdvocates is a little more cerebral and even philosophical although no less concerned with men’s issues. The discussions about men’s problems are looked at in a way that is more...I suppose intellectual would describe it best.

There is understandable anger here too but it is tempered, and pushed back when it becomes a little too much for calm discussion.

Feminism has its faults, excesses and even cruelties picked apart and exposed without mercy when necessary but it is not Public Enemy No. 1. Social attitudes and structures that disadvantage men are just as much under assault here as anything else.

From personal experience and observation of other people’s issues, I will say That there do seem to be some “invisible” won’t-know-it-until-you-cross-it ideological lines here, that result in moral finger wagging and outright discipline.

But considering the recent appearance of this phenomenon along with current events on Reddit I’m not comfortable saying that they are an indelible part of this sub as opposed to a temporary reaction to greater forces.

Anyway that’s my comparison between the two subs. It’s probably riddled with flaws but it’s cobbled together from my experiences and observations.

I also freely admit to having a more favorable bias towards r/LeftwingMaleAdvocates so also take that into consideration.

I'll give it an educated guess...

I'm from the UK so my... political leaning seems to be different from the MRAs I've seen in the US.

For example, most of the MRA-type US-based twitter accounts I follow seem to be generally right leaning, or Republican, on other issues. Even the female MRAs - the wonderfully named 'Honey Badgers!' - seem to be more Rep then Dem.

Now that for me feel pretty odd, as I'm a naturally left-leaning guy. I suspect in the US I'd be considered - broadly - a Democrat. (However the whole 'Woke' thing can go and, frankly, get fucked! Needlessly divisive and very 'student politics-y'.)

Actually to be fair to the Right, in the UK the only newspaper that seems to give any shits at all about Mens Issues is the 'Daily Mail', but that's a pretty Hard No for Lefties in the UK as it's one of the most RW papers on the market here!!

I'm guessing that generally the difference is that the politically 'Right' are more willing to take action sooner than later, where as the 'Left' seem more willing to play the 'long game' by the 'establishment rules'. Who knows?

So, my educated guess is that it's a cross-Atlantic 'difference' and the 'LeftWing' part of the sub's name would appeal to Europeans?

Of course, I could be talking shite! =)

Edit: I said I would be considered a Democrat in the US, perhaps it would be more accurate to say I'd be considered a Liberal in the US, as opposed to a Conservative.

r/MensRights spends too much time being anti-feminist and not enough time being pro-men. I have my own disagreements with modern mainstream feminism but you can't form your entire ideology out of the dislike of another ideology.

Stricter moderation,
more progressive perspectives overall,
less internalized misandry (downplaying of violence against men, restriction of non-conformity...),
higher average quality of posts and comments.
Reddit is based on snowballing: if enough stuff is posted and you don't take off immediately, your post will get burried and is dead. Ironically, this may result in your average engagement being higher in smaller communities with low quantity/high quality posts than in big subs where people spam all kinds of stuff. That being said, it is at times highly subjective whether a relatively low effort post is harmful or beneficial to the cummunity.
Additionally, the avg. person here is far more willing to read longer posts, though shorter posts are still strongly prefered in terms of engagement (given interest).

/r/MensRights tends to take the attitude "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" when it comes to tradcons and even the alt-right (where the common enemy is modern feminism).

There are a few problems with this.

It gives people ammunition to use against the MRM. They can easily point to someone's right-wing take and use that to paint the whole movement.
It ignores that MRAs disagree with contemporary feminism for the exact opposite reason traditionalists do. Traditionalists hate what feminism claims to be (gender equality). The issue MRAs have with modern feminism is that it isn't what it claims to be. MRAs want gender equality and feminist narratives and activism block that.
It gives tradcons and the alt-right access to men who are struggling and allows them to present their ideology as the answer. I've seen many liberal MRAs pulled to the right by this.

The way I see it, this space is explicitly left-wing to try to avoid that dynamic.

I think what you said pretty much sums it up. We're more left leaning than r/mensrights

For example here we might compare the discrimination of men to racism, whereas the average r/men's rights user is more right-leaning and therefore they don't care that much about racism.

Or some users in r/mensrights might lump feminism and LGBT+ activism together (and complain about both). I assume that here most people are supportive of LGBT+.

An interesting example is that here we might say that (gay) men are the main victims of homophobia. For that statement you must care about both LGBT+ and men's rights.

Large subs have a lot of low-commitment users. That's the nature of the internet where there is no cost to entry for late comers. A sub's early users have to do the work of creating something, but late comers get a free ride.

I'm a part of men rights yes some of the comings are misogynist but most are just complaints iv actually learned some things there I could not of found out any where else. Just like how I learn things hear that I can't find any where else.

Well, its in the name. More people are left wing here. /r/mensrights however is somewhat more 'direct' while this subreddit maintains a kinder tone.

r/MensRights has a broader audience.

Posts here tend to have quite a bit more quality, but less diversity.

It's kind of the difference between a seminar room and a crowded lecture hall.

Also, while most people on r/MensRights really aren't like that, you tend to see the occasional tradcon / transphobia / etc. (although such comments are quick to get downvoted).

A lot of people on r/MensRights seem to not like gender non-conformity though (given that such people tend to be downvoted as well, I'd say they're still in the minority).

I’d say it’s personally that that sub by nature is more right leaning than this sub ever is leading to more misogynistic view points. I used to be active in it till I realized because of it being less moderated there’s a lot more genuine sexism towards women and not as many people taking an egalitarian stance as I hoped. I’m really glad this sub exists because of those reasons since I can be a male advocate while not having to deal with the flow of trash that comes with a lightly moderated subreddit.

Edit: there’s an issue with the iOS app so I can’t reply to you op or this comment itself but the sexism I’ve seen isn’t embedded into the sub but it’s rampant throughout. At one point a topic was women in the Middle East and how they’re treated and I had like 10 people telling me that it’s just as bad for men and that they’re treated equally bad. It didn’t matter what I brought up they’d just deny it, you can probably find it in my comment history.

There are these ideas out there that it’s the right that is radicalizing the young men but I would say it’s just as much the left and progressives. I think this sub is great for this who have grown allergic to certain parts of the progressive circles while still lean left.

I subscribe to those two and r/menslib. I would see them on a spectrum (not that one) where mensrights is the most extreme in its anti-feminism, menslib the most pro-feminist, and this one is in the middle.

I would still say I prefer menslib to either of the others.

At r/mensrights there's a more dominant number of right wingers and Conservatives then there is of left wingers and Liberals. It's understandable as Men's rights tend to attract right-wingers because right-wingers are the most critical and opposing of feminism and they notice the hypocrisy left wingers have when it comes to equality. But the issue is that because r/mensrights is mostly right-wing there's a fair amount of users who believe in the traditional gender roles. Believing how encouraging men to cry encourages them to be weak, believing how men should be the breadwinners and be willing to protect and provide and do the hard work. There's some of that attitude on how if there's a feminine presenting man existing then it's a sign that the 'left is feminising our boys!'. Believing in traditional gender roles is not true gender equality. There's also a couple I've come across that are ignorant towards the topic of being transgender to the point that it gets transphobic.

While this doesn't apply to every single user on r/mensrights, you shouldn't dare say a positive thing about feminism otherwise you will trigger the most radical, closeminded and hypocritical anti-feminist MRA. I've had a run in with one guy who was like and it was freaking toxic. I won't tell the whole story here but I will say that after having a second encounter with him and recognising him I certainly put him in his place! Felt really good confronting him and telling him off after he made me feel like crap and more insecure months earlier.

r/leftwingmaleadvocates is a subreddit that's meant to appeal to MRA's that are left wing. It's really tough to be a Liberal and a Men's Rights Activist. Obviously almost the entirey of the Liberal movement and the left wing hate you because you aren't a feminist, you aren't showing any support to women's rights, you are joining a hate group yadda yadda yadda. But also the right wing approach to men's rights isn't true equality because of what I mentioned above about r/mensrights defending and supporting traditional gender roles. And you could also face the radical bullies who will shame you for not having the same exact beliefs as them, for maybe saying something positive about feminism and also even for simply being left wing. So this sub is a space for those who are on the left and is a Men's Rights advocate. In difference to r/mensrights, this sub is more understanding and educated on transgenders, it's more open to , users here aren't afraid of having little to some praise for some feminist activists and some causes in feminist ideology, and we all support the cause of letting men and boys do, wear, like and behave however they want despite gender stereotypes telling them not to.

There should be a significant difference but unfortunately there isn’t really. This sub is slightly better but has the potential to be great, which it isn’t.
