This picture just assumes so many things, its stupid. Each marriage and relationship are completely different in terms what each partner brings to the table. My ex-wife is a thousand times better off since she married me. She got free health insurance, a roof over her head, food, luxury vacations, the list goes on and on. Oh by the way, did I mention she didn't have to work at all to achieve all this? I had to. Which is fine, I wanted to provide for her because I loved her.

Ugh. Yes, because traditions are so important that they MUST be followed.

Naming decisions are just that...decisions. I wouldn't expect anything from a partner I'm marrying in this area, it would be something that would be discussed. I know there is social pressure for women to take a man's name, but thankfully that tradition is being questioned by a lot of people these days. It should not be standard, or expected, or a dealbreaker. So there's no point in bringing this up.

Most adults leave their parents' homes, so that's irrelevant. Most married adults don't abandon their families unless their families are worthy of being abandoned. And any spouse who demands their partner stop seeing their family is abusive and not someone anyone should be marrying.

Building a home with your married partner is generally something married couples strive toward, as a central hub for their lives. It's neutral ground, irrelevant.

The decision to have a child is exactly that...a decision. many married couples find themselves in situations where one wants something the other doesn't in this context. There are many options available. Ultimately, if a woman doesn't want to get pregnant, she doesn't have to. So it's irrelevant, as is the fat shaming and body shaming that follows, because apparently delivering life into the world goes against western beauty ideals, and stretch marks are ugly or something. The pain is certainly notable, but at that point, it's both to be expected, and likely planned for. Additionally, I would expect any decent spouse would be very attentive through the months of pregnancy all the way through the actual event, because it was a team effort to conceive, and it should be a team effort going through the trials of pregnancy. because a married couple are in fact a team.

And again, the last name thing is always always ALWAYS negotiable. It's a non-issue, or it should be.

This image is stupid and the author of it should feel stupid. The issue is with adhering to tradition and assuming they have to, not with marriage itself. Ridiculous.

The name change is a decent argument, but this isn't the best critique of marriage I've seen. For the time she was in Beauvoir did a pretty good critique. Naturally, this is written from a slanted perspective and paints the picture such that A) The "safcrifices" are made only by women and B) They are sacrifices at all.

A lot of this is easy to argue against because it's not constructed with or subjected to a lot of scrutiny, and even then, not the best kind. In short, this is shit to such a degree that calling it shit feels redundant.
