The problem is not that different feminists have different opinions.

The problem is

There appears no fundamental axioms of feminism that allow one to predict the feminist opinion
It's difficult to argue with feminists because so many are not intellectually honest. Heather here writes "In a radical feminist world, there is no transphobia" but when it is pointed out in the comments how much transphobia there is in the real world, Heather and many others fall back to both the Kael Nixon and the True Scottsman fallacy: "no rad fems I know are transphobic" and "they really aren't true rad fems are they"

The result as happens from any untestable unfalsifiable pseudo science is that for an issue, one feminist can be offended, another empowered, a third both empowered and offended but all for different reasons, and none of them will take responsibility for feminist history.

Just in case anyone else attempts to claim that either one of these two ladies are "not real feminists" or "not representative of feminism", here is some information I was forced to provide elsewhere, to prove that they are both, indeed, feminists.

For starters, the Guardian, which they both write for, is a notoriously feminist newspaper. You simply don't get anti-feminists in the Guardian, ever.

Kira Cochrane is the women's editor of the Guardian, and a life long feminst. Here is one infamous article by her, in which she parrots the radical feminist line, popularised by such extremists as Mckinnon, Jeffries, Dworkin, and French, that "all men are rapists".

Julie Burchill is also a very well known feminist, who frequently writes for the feminist section of the very feminsit newspaper, The Guardian. Here is an article in which she is interviewed by fellow hardcore radical feminist, Julie Blindel (infamous for writing the misandric article "Why I hate men", as well as being a contributor to extremist hate site radicalhub.com). You will notice that the interview refers to both Bindel and Burchill as two of the UK's "most outspoken feminists".

Burchill is also famous saying, "A good part - and definitely the most fun part - of being a feminist is about frightening men."

Let there be no doubt, both these women are extremely well known feminists.

I don't much care for either article; the first one is weak on logic (paraphrasing: “think how boring the world would be without rapists — we'd have nothing to be appalled by!”) and the second one is ominously silent about the fact that men and women alike are victims of paparazzi (Prince Harry's leaked naked pictures aren't mentioned) or that the audience of tabloid magazines is mainly comprised of women, not men.

That being said, I'm not sure what the relationship is between the articles: looking at women in public isn't the same as spying on them in private. Even if women want to “show off their bodies” in public, that doesn't make it OK to spy on them in private, and especially not on other women. Kate Middleton wasn't known to dress immodestly and if she wants to go nude in private, she should be able to do so without paparazzi spying on her through telephoto lenses.

Bracing for impact, but can we not admit that they both have valid points wrapped up in their writing?

The idea that the human body and sexuality are taboo, and that people should be shamed for it, is one of the key markers of the sexual monopoly of which this subreddit is intensely critical. I, for one, am pretty fond of the idea that we should all be a little more confident in our bodies and a little less shy about showing them.

That said, the argument that our bodies should not be commodified without our consent is also totally reasonable, and again, is a core tenet of MRA ideology. Just as people's bodies should not be considered disposable tools of warfare or of absorbing violence, people's bodies should not be considered tools for sexual gratification without their permission. I would be miffed if someone took a picture of my junk, whether in the locker room, at the pool, or getting out of my car.

These two desires do not contradict. There is plenty within these articles to pick at, but the theses are neither mutually exclusive nor outrageous.

This has to do with female sexual power over men. Male shame is female power. But shame operates as a lever around the fulcrum of desire. Women provoke male desire in order to develop power over men.

As a woman, I enjoy when I can turn a head. As a bi lady, I do my fair share of looking at both. But I will say, I've felt uncomfortable many times with certain men looking/staring. And I get annoyed by "cat calling." Specifically, an older male neighbor (40-50; I'm 24) used to stare and say inappropriate things until I very firmly told him to stop. I feel uncomfortable coming and going from my own home now, which kind of sucks. Looking okay. Staring/commenting not okay, especially with a big age difference.

I think you missed the point of the second article. It talks about taking explicit pictures of women without their consent, which (at least in my opinion) is wrong regardless. Just because a woman wears a miniskirt doesn't mean people have the right to take upskirt photos of her. Does it make me a hypocrite if I wear a low cut top but get upset if someone takes a picture down my shirt? Am I still a hypocrite if that happens but my shirt wasn't low cut?

Factually, when I look at someone, nothing from me is touching them, light is reflecting off of them and hitting my eyes.

If people are unwilling to take responsibility for the images that light reflecting off their body produces...that's fine, but don't get pissed off at me because YOUR light is falling on MY retina.

I am gay and I really don't like the female body. Sorry, but that's just how I feel. So I would actually prefer it if women could dress more 'modest'. Of course it would be wrong to legislate it like in certain countries but it would be nice if women would just do it as an act of common decency.
