Poor-rich is a real thing.

I grew up in a working class community and grew up around people that spend everything they have on looking rich, primarily women, but not so much so anymore.

People will put themselves into debt and get pay-day loans just to buy the latest iphones, or buy £800 handbags. They will get expensive cars on finance that they can't really afford and plummet their credit, and go on very expensive nights out ever week and then complain on the Monday about having no money. Women often pay £200 for haircuts. Just the other week I berated a family member for paying £140 for Botox, and I was just like 'you live in state housing and depend on the welfare state to fund your basic necessities, it's about time you get your priorities straight'

There are even certain brands that I am convinced are the poor persons 'rich' brands: Gucci, BMW, Apple, that kind of shit. Brands poor people associate with rich people, so they buy, but in reality most rich people are rich, because they don't waste money on this shit.

I understand why so many people in the working class end up supporting right wing parties and become anti-welfare state, because they grow up witnessing how much poverty is mostly driven by irresponsible financial decision making and stupidity and not "oppression". I think that's why middle-class young people over glorify the poor as being "oppressed", because they've never actually stepped foot into a poor area and seen how much of it really is just caused by outright stupidity.

I love when this kind of shit happens. I got into my first argument where someone started commenting on what I was wearing. Mind you, I am a construction manager and site project manager, so Im usually wearing cheap pants and a cheap button down or collared shirt, because I get dirty walking through the sites. So of course, this is the first thing they start to point out on the train as I am riding home from the city, during this argument. Of course, this person is dressed to the 9's. All their clothes had labels and the shoes were new, and blah blah blah blah. Apparently, someone in this person's group was tired of this person always doing this, so the person from the group says "You fucking with this man when he just got off of work, insulting him, when you're wearing a month's worth of pay on yourself" to which I laughed. The one in the outfit asked what was so funny, since their outfit was a thousand dollars, or so they claim. I told said, "only someone who is truly poor thinks insulting someone's outfit is actually insulting." It didnt get any better from there but my point is, the person to point something out is usually the one who is the worst off.

When I lived in a big city I took the bus/train to and from home and work. It was cheaper and quicker. Most people that lived in that city only drove to those 2 destinations... That's a lot of wasted money on gas, insurance, maintenance.
