I think they already knew they went overboard with the male hating when they hastily released that follow-up ad with the much more traditionally masculine veteran in it. Then they did another 180 and said that identity politics was their official direction and doubled down on the initial misandry. P&G/Gillette seems like they are a company at war with themselves, as happens wth many large businesses that are poorly managed and have weak leadership.

P&G said the Shave Care business has consistently generated significant earnings and cash flow and continues to be a strategic business with attractive earnings, cash flow and growth opportunities.

I used to buy expensive razors from Gillette. They were convenient and I could easily afford them. After that ad, I switched to a double-edge safety razor... it's awesome and I'm much happier.

Well, I won't buy Gillette razors and other grooming accessories but other than that I don't know what else they sell and I couldn't be bothered to investigate.

Before we take credit for their losses as some sort of grand victory for men's rights, don't forget that the trade war with China is likely one of the biggest factors in their sales and earnings numbers.

While the number is not necessarily the sole indicator of success, P&G’s share price is at an all-time high right now.

While there may be some impact on the Gillette business, there’s no reason to think they’re sweating this boycott and its ability to sustain.

To be clear, I’m not saying I’m pro P&G, only that we should avoid overstating the impact of their awful marketing decision in their Gillette division.

I doubt the advert made that much of an impact. The press release indicates the write down was because of “market contraction of blades and razors” because of “lower shaving frequency” (ie more guys wearing facial hair - true) and “competitive activities” (Dollar Shave Club, Harry’s, etc).
