Please don't go down the feminist thought process of nitpicking things like this. The "man" in "gunman" isn't specifying this person is a man or woman. It's gender neutral. There are a couple of words like that where "man" is gender neutral and not referring to males.

Edit: The argument that other words are being pushed to be switched to "xperson" is exactly what I'm saying to try to not copy. One of you even said it was feminists who insisted on that change. Why do we want to nitpick just like them? It seemed silly to me that they insisted on that change and it would seem just as silly to me if we insisted on that change.

A biological female, Audrey Hale, transitioned to a male, Aiden Hale, then murdered 6 people during a school shooting. Perhaps she had difficulties dealing with the extreme inequalities men have to live with in modern American society. Coming from a female life where everything is given to you and adopting a male life where everything is taken from you could have been a truly difficult transition.

Those of us who speak more gendeder languages know this very well. If you are familiar with spanish you will know that we use genders for nouns and adjectives. When feminism gained power some circles began to use a newly created (they don't have the excuse english speakers had of "it always existed you just didn't know") neutral form, either with "e" saying "chiques" instead of "chicas" or "chicos", "@" or, even, "x". The other most common technique is to double the words, so you say "los/las chicos/as".

Also, some words, in plural, have the letter that is, usually, used to mark a gender, used for both. Sometimes is "o", the "masculine", sometimes is "a", the "femenine" but, as anyone with any amount of linguistic knowledge, gender in words isn't related to real gender, we don't think that cars have penises just because they are called "el". But they saw that unacceptable, as, in spanish, the way pronouns work is that if in a group of people there is even a single man you must refer to that group of people on the neutral form, and the neutral form is exactly the same as the masculine form, so they said that that invisibilized women.

Then you go back to reality. Doubled forms, newspeak to use neutral forms, words that didn't have femenine terminations gaining those.

The teacher is "los/las profesores/as" but the rapists is always "los violadores". The doctor is the "doctor/doctora" but, the victim, is always "la víctima". Their bias sips through the cracks. This is how they really are, and what they really want, it's just that in english it's not that blatant. So that you understand it, do you complain about "mansplaining" being a clear sexist term? In spanish we don't say "sexismo" even if we have that words, we say "machismo", translated would be like "man-ism". Our word for sexism is, literally, "being a man and that is bad". That is what feminism is about, don't let them fool you.
