Some people say the wall exists. But others say it doesn't because their grandma still has lots of men still trying to hit on her.

The truth is, the wall exists and doesn't exist at the same time. How can that be? How can something exist and not exist at the same time?

The answer is that men are naturally attracted to younger women who are around peak fecundity. This has been demonstrated in studies. The man's age is irrelevant. One study said most men of all ages preferred women in their early 20s in terms of physical appearance. In that sense the wall exists.

But the wall doesn't exist because most men also realize that getting with a much younger woman is unrealistic or socially unacceptable as they get older. So they tend to actually pursue women closer to their own age. On dating sites, for instance, older men usually message women close to their own age instead of 21 year olds, even if those men think the 21 year olds are hotter looking than the women their own age.

That's one of the reasons why older women still get men hitting on them.

On the other hand, the dating market does shrink as women get older. Most women like men around their own age or a bit older. But men tend to prefer younger women. As women get older their dating pool shrinks because a lot of men will go for slightly younger women, and a few will go for much younger women.

When women are in their early 20s, most early 20s guys want them and a lot of mid and late 20s, 30s and older guys want them too. But when they get into their 30s, some guys in their 30s will be going for women in their 20s.

As women get older a growing percentage of men their age will be going for slightly or much younger women. So, yes, your grandma will still get hit on, but she won't get as much attention as a 21 year old.
