The biggest differences are both annoying. They are as far as I can tell:

1.) Everyone is way more vain because of social media. People with attractive faces now out perform everyone and both genders over select for how someone will look in their Instagram feed. A 5'9" guy with a handsome face who writes he's 6'0" will crush on a dating profile

2.) I have a wide social circle in a major city. The 5 most beautiful women I know that are single have not dated anyone in at least year and none of them are on dating sites. They're just off the market. Like maybe they have hook ups I don't know about, but they've not shown up with a boyfriend at social events, are not on dating sites and don't post with guys on sm. It seems like women are less interested in dating in general.

im 29 but One of my friends is 37 and we had this discussion as he is very into these types of conversations.

Basically he said it was easier 10-15 years ago to just go out and get a girl's number before social media became such a huge staple in society. Where back then you still needed charm and confidence but if you earned a good living, had a good career, a type of post-grad degree (like a Master's) got you some interest. Nowadays with degrees being so devalued due to high percentage of people going to college, girls dont even bat an eye. I have a masters and honestly I have barely ever used it in conversation. In my experience, That's the type of thing you mention if you want to impress her parents. With social media, women especially have alot more options, so you are not competing with the rest of the bar or town, you are competing with a guy in florida who is looking for girls to bring to his yacht (an exageration but you get what I mean). But the point is she probably has multiple guys hitting her up on her phone (and dating app) and she has multiple options to choose from so when they go out, most of them arent even looking to really talk to guys.

I'm in my mid 30's and nightgame has been significantly easier, especially living in a massive city. I have way more confidence, way better game, way more experience than in my 20's. There's also this crazy dynamic that happens when you enter your mid 30's where pretty much all younger women love older guys and tons of older women love younger guys so there's just a ridiculous pool of options compared to my early to mid 20's when women above the age of 25 basically want nothing to do with younger, inexperienced children.

Also when I go to bars pretty much 95% of men ages 21-29 are scared shitless to approach women, have zero game, have really bad social skills because they've spent so much of their lives online. And tons of guys are just fine using dating apps so they don't need to approach as much in the past when these didn't exist. And the ones that do approach are normally way too drunk and have zero game. I literally go out solo all of the time and these kids just stand in the corner with their 5 boys, circle jerking each other, staring at hot girls and talking about how hot they are but "they can't approach them".

Meanwhile everywhere I go there are literally shit tons of hot girls by themselves that are sitting around waiting to be approached at bars but so few people do it or are really bad at it. If you literally have the balls to approach any woman, aren't ridiculously unattractive, have confidence and good body language, and can literally just form coherent sentences without getting too nervous you're completely shitting on like 95% of men nowadays (especially the younger ones).

My Experience has been very positive.

I'm 31, and I just got out of a long relationship of 12 years. Now, after such a long time, I am inspired by this subreddit and I approach attractive women and even younger girls with a smile and friendly tone. 90% of the time I am received very well, even if it's a rejection. Maybe it's because I monitor and, if I find signals like a weak handshake, end the interaction immediately with a compliment and "have a nice day".

Unlike some comments here, I find them generally quite approachable. But I rarely approached girls before my long relationship (early 2010s), so I don't have a reference to compare now to then.

I am also often complimented "You have balls though; I like that!" after the rejection.

My success rate was unreal at fucking on the first date. I lived the primetime of Tinder/Bumble which IMO was 2016ish, give or take a couple years.

Changes that I've observed:

-women on dating apps have much shorter attention spans, dating apps stopped working for me in 2023.

-Few women answer their phone anymore, they prefer to communicate via text. The wait 2 days after getting her number rule doesn't apply anymore. You need to move faster before they lose interest in you.

-You really have to market 'lifestyle' to women, particularly on social media. If they don't perceive you as being capable of giving them a cooler lifestyle, they're not interested.

-more women are hostile towards men and/or not interested in men, leftist women are very doctrinaire with their politics and intolerant of men who disagree with them.

-the only women who used to have tattoos were goth/rockabilly/alternative/punk chicks, now every basic becky/ashley/megan has at least 1 or 2 tattoos.

-men who used to not want to have children/family were called heartless d-bags. Now if you're a man who does want children/family many women will say you're a d-bag.

-young women today have more passion and energy for having their right to terminate their babies than to have babies.

1) Online dating is one of the main methods people are meeting, but usually only ends up being hookups not relationships/ongoing. Also the guys who do really well on dating apps tend to be guys who have maximized on looks, and portraying a fun lifestyle. Meanwhile the average man (90%+) is invisible and gets absolutely no action.

2) Social circle game is still (by far) king when it comes to attracting beautiful women, simply because this has always been the number one method women have used to source men for sex and relationships. Why not advertise where women are shopping? Maximizing your social circle, especially being in a friend circle of good looking guys who have an exciting lifestyle who attract beautiful women, as well as having female platonic friends (as wingmen) to help source beautiful women and bring them right to your doorstep. These two points are crucial.

3) beta traits (money, being nice, communication, security, etc) are becoming less needed by women in today’s day in age, as women are striving to provide these things for themselves and no longer seek them as a necessity from a man. Women are instead almost exclusively filtering for alpha traits in men nowadays (looks, muscle, game, social proof, preselection, etc). Most guys are beta and would benefit by focusing on upping the alpha, to help them become more desirable to women and get healthier dynamics in their relationships for both parties.

The dating market is slightly different, but it is exaggerating what has always been true, whereas the “traditional” man meets woman at bar and they get married with kids/ white picket fence Disney fantasy, is becoming far less realistic in today’s dating scene. Modifying your approach, and maximizing alpha traits is the biggest takeaway and is going to need to be focused on if you want to succeed and have healthier sex life and relationships with women. Over 30 here, and the past 2 years I've had 4x more sex than I have ever had in my life.

I will say that there is a difference between the US and other countries (Costa Rica and The Philippines, you can just walk around and ask women to go to dinner, no app required). The caveat is I also make decent money so I can wear better clothes and travel more, which can be leveraged on dating sites if you so choose.

2013-2018 Tinder was like shooting fish in a barrel. Easily 1-2 hookups or new casual partners per month. Since then (Match.com acquisition) online dating has been more or less dead for me. I have 10 years on you actually and have done this for a very long time. I’m married now, but I flirt harmlessly with women here and there and I feel would be like taking candy from a kid if I actually wanted anything more.

Here is my assessment. Yes, things were a bit more innocent back then. There have always been creeps and weirdos, so women were less guarded. Then the whole pickup artist craze went out of hand and now every single woman on Earth knows about the crazy girlfriend opener. So don’t judge them for looking at a guy who approaches them on the street as if he is a leper or something.

Couple that with #metoo and some women unscrupulously exploiting the movement for their own gain by throwing random accusations at guys and you have the scene as it is today. Men are shy and keep to themselves, scared of their own shadows and women are lonely and frustrated, but still manage to walk around with major attitudes like their shit don’t stink.

The thing is, I’m a dispassionate observer and see both sides. The biggest issue is that men have bought into the idea that to get a woman interested, they have to be higher than life. Tall, muscular, globe trotting, owning their own company by the time they are 18, blah blah blah.

And women buy into the TikTok shit about 6’5” finance bros. It’s literally like chickens with their heads off running around without any purpose.

But if you were to look behind the veneer of the bitchy attitude and RBF, you will actually see a ton of women who are lonely and lack love and good sex. I keep reading here that most women are getting dick left and right, but let me tell you something. Well fucked women are not walking around with mean and bitchy attitudes. Well fucked women are happy and glowing and look 10 years younger. So they must not be getting fucked all that well!

Guys just need to realize that they are OK and they don’t need to be Superman on steroids just to get some average fattie interested. They just need to be completely OK with who they are and stop rejecting themselves. It’s become very homogenous. Like it or not, we’re all massively influenced by social media, and our peers (who are in turn influenced by social media).

There’s almost a linear pathway to dating now, with very little happening organically, and anything that deviates from that pathway being interpreted with suspicion. There’s a real reluctance to be vulnerable for fear of being hurt, or face a blow to your own ego. It’s understandable, but it feels like a bit of a Prisoner’s Dilemma situation, where everyone is incentivised to be detached and distant, but when we all are, we all lose out.

I would say there’s a higher expectation of partners, possibly among men and women. I can only speak from the perspective of a straight guy here, but there seems to be a lot to women holding off, waiting for Mr Perfect to sweep them off their feet, with no awareness that they themselves are bringing nowhere near enough to the table to catch a high value guy. I think a lot of this is influenced by social media and the ‘Red flag’ stuff, which would previously have been considered fairly innocuous and natural differences.

Could go on and on, because it’s changed drastically and not for the better for any group I can think of. Men and women both seem disillusioned by it, but we’re both equally to blame for letting it get this way.

On the plus side, online dating would’ve made things much easier for me had it been around in my early 20’s. It’s hugely superficial obviously, but great for busy professionals, or people who for whatever reason aren’t really into clubbing/drinking.

I was in a relationship for almost 10 years, so had no experience dating in that time, and the stark differences for me are;

Reliance on dating apps. I’d never used them before outside of one bad encounter when I was 28 and scrapped them immediately. Didn’t need them, just would go out, be social, bump into someone eventually and that was that. Now of the 10 Women i’ve met since being single 1 come about by going out and getting their number, the other 9 from apps.

Addiction to social media. Especially in the sub-30 crowd. The concept of putting your phone away for 90 minutes is completely alien to these people, and very off putting to me. As a result I don’t go sub-30, and preferably plus 40. These Women are much less susceptible to phone addiction and can actually carry out a 2-3 hour date without scrolling.

All the ‘new’ lingo. ‘Love-bombing’, ‘push-pull’, ‘situationship’ ‘red/green flagi’, never heard of this shit in my life in regards to dating or experienced it until now. Social media, tinder and victim-culture ruined absolutely everything, especially dating.

Girls don’t need families and husbands when they have millions of dollars from only fans and hundreds of thousands of followers approving every bad decision. There’s no one to guide them. They don’t have a single good role model. And even if they do they won’t listen because bad behavior is cool. Telling a guy off and being a brat is cool. No one to correct their behavior and they lack the self awareness to do it themselves. Hence why we have 30+ year old women acting like teenagers still. Immature and never grew up.

Guys are equally part of the problem too. No morality, no honor, no ethics. Just a never ending cycle of them trying to get bigger muscles, make more money and get more tattoos. Also a total lack of manners and behavior. They are constantly trying to look like a better man while never actually becoming a better man internally. Depends entirely on your location.

America, for example, is going to be a shit show in major cities, but easier in smaller rural places.

More expensive the city, more difficult the dating market. People need to wake up and realise we are living in an era of passport dating. You have to carefully analyse the place you want to go to find your mate.

I mean, sure, there might be small tiny pockets of good dating space even in the bad locations, but it's going to be a hard find with limited options. It is better to relocate to an overall better dating environment.

Tinder was brilliant when it first came out and was far easier for the average guy to get good success.

Being in good shape was far less common, and you stood out more. Now, far more guys are in shape and it's become far more of the standard.

Women's expectations and "pickiness" has become far more prevalent, aka "sexual inflation."

Less people seem to want to go out to nightclubs now. Bars are still pretty good.

I'll try to keep it quick some general differences

Good:

-Women are open to more places - women used to be very particular they only wanted to be in a couple cities, now they're much more open to living, working, studying, traveling to other areas.

-In smaller cities/ towns and even in major cities there are more third places, more places to meet women, and better places to take dates. So many microbreweries, axe throwing, escape rooms, cool online groups to meet people if that's surfing, running, or short story writing.

-More/ Less competition - so many guys have dropped out. It's good for numbers but ultimately makes the experience worse - less wings, less good guy friends. Also the people you're judged against aren't people in your local area, it is people on Instagram/ tik-tok that you have to pseudo compete against.

Cold approaching today seems easier than it was 10yrs ago. If you do it right.

I get basically 0 play on dating apps these days. When they first came out? I’d get laid basically every week if I wanted. Sometimes the same night/day.

Today, women don’t expect men to cold approach. And as long as you don’t come off as a creep when you do it, they tend to be happy/flattered when it’s all said and done.

Thats a very interesting conversation. As many other mentioned its true that social media reshaped kinda the world and the dating market as well.

As a guy who grew up in 90s i have taste both the more "authentic" era of dating and getting to know someone randomly and the current marketing.

Its true that 10 or 15 years ago it was way easier to play around since now the expectations are way more high from women but also there is a way larger pool to experiment and meet people if you have the resources for traveling or you want to invest on a longer game of distance.

It's creepy to be someone in his mid 30s approaching girls in their early 20s. Sure there are some into it, and others are into it for financial reasons, but a self-respecting guy should feel at least a bit of shame doing it.

For girls in their late 20s to mid 30s, they'll be mainly looking for something serious. and they won't allow themselves to fall for corny and immature pick up guys. Especially not from guys in their early to mid 30's, where a certain level of maturity is expected.

Maybe it's just time to grow up.
