Can you elaborate on skincare

Most skincare products are a total rip off. The industry has got 99% of women thinking these ridiculous products are essential. The only way for the industry to grow is to get men to buy into the hype too. Don't drink the kool aid.

Idk man my skin looks way better since I started washing daily and using facial lotion everyday

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

But just to give an overview, there's diet, exercise, skincare & dermatology, orthodontia and dental care, haircare, hairstyle to suit your face shape, glasses for your face shape, facial hair, eyebrow grooming, dressing to suit your body shape, choosing colors for your complexion, getting your clothes tailored, having a signature style, marketing to your niche, body language, social skills, being cool, being charismatic.

It's quite a list but there is nothing particularly surprising on there.

Hell, she didn't even add cologne/scent

[–]howlinggale 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What do you recommend cologne/scent wise. Because they all (that I've ever tried) smell horrible to me. I sometimes wonder if most other people actually have a functioning nose.

[–]concacanca 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's tough. I hate 90% of colognes and have grown to dislike several that I liked originally.

Most of my collection are gifts from the wife, which is nice as I know she likes it. We tend to pick out scents together.

I'm guessing you find most too musky? Try davodoff cool water or john Paul Gautier pour homme. Those two are a lot softer, more every day smells. Cool water is really reasonable price wise as well.

[–]howlinggale 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Too be honest they all smell like "chemicals" to me. I mean more like a cleaning agent smell. An alcohol base? Not sure. I don't really know much about the construction of perfumes. I gave up years ago. It's not that there aren't any nice scents, but underneath them I always seem to find something unpleasant.

[–]concacanca 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ok well the back up I like is Palmer's cocoa butter. You bet to moisturise and smell great without any of that heavy scent

What is marketing to your niche?

How does one go about being cool and charismatic if they aren't already?

People trying to be cool always seem to come off as lame... And if you're already cool you don't really need to improve that.

For example hippie men clean up because hippie women outnumber them, and STEM girls clean up because STEM men outnumber them.

Yep. Every time nerds complain about nerdy girls not liking them - it's like a very tiny majority of nerdy women that do that because the vast majority of us are already dating other nerdy men. We get our pick of the lot.

[–]howlinggale 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Okay, I get that. Making a target profile and doing what you can to appeal to that profile.

Can you give any examples of trying hard but making it look easy. Do you just mean lots of practice? Concert level pianists try hard, but they make things look easy... But they've put their 10,000+ hours of training in. Do you have any examples of things that give off cool (subjective, and again dependant on the profile of your target) while being relatively easy to integrate into existing behaviour? Say no more than a months work to get it to a passable level.

[–][deleted] 44 points45 points46 points 8 years ago (274 children) | Copy Link

Men can dress better. I had no idea how bad Americans dress until I started hanging out with immigrants.

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points32 points 8 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

American men dress like eight year old boys.

[–]belletaco 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

This this this. My friends get on me about loving European men because I've dated a few, but can you blame me? Look at the state of American men..

[–]skepticalbob 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Right? Clothes are so important to relationship happiness! /s

[–]belletaco 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It's important to me that I am attracted to the person I am dating and I have no interest in dating someone dressed like a teenager. I put work and effort into my appearance, I expect my partner to do the same, especially since it's really not effort at all.

[–]skepticalbob 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

especially since it's really not effort at all.

You sure about that? People often underestimate how hard it is for other people to do things that they personally find easy.

I've never seen an old, happy couple with an idyllic marriage that said the secret to their happiness was because they both dressed so well.

[–]belletaco 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I would hope it would go without saying that I value things like honesty, loyalty, similar interests and a sense of humor above how they dress, but for INITIAL attraction, no I would not consider someone who didn't dress the way I find attractive because I wouldn't find them attractive.

[–]skepticalbob 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I get that. I guess that when someone says that most of an entire country's men are unacceptable because of something like clothing, it seems to me that too much importance is being placed on it.

[–]belletaco 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I often use hyperbole when I write on here, but I wouldn't discount all Americans no, lol. Everyone has preferences they are attracted to though. Some it's height or muscles. I like well dressed men!

[–]Nu_Guy 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Have you ever been to NYC?

[–]belletaco 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

[–]Nu_Guy 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

NYC....

[–]Nu_Guy 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Guys don't match in NYC? Get haircuts weekly, sharp fades, etc?

[–]belletaco 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

NYC is probably the least offensive, yes, but still not great for the average man.

[–]Nu_Guy 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Really? NYC is a fashion capital of the world. I hypothesize you hang around mostly white people.

We used to be fresh to death in NYC. If you have anything in mind, show me some fashion trend men in Europe do that is "great" compared to the average man in NYC

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am so glad I have grown up in Europe. There's obviously the exception to the rule, but the majority of men dress well here. Maybe not always appropriate to their age, but at least the fit and styles right.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

More so all the time.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

lol wut?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

When my son was eight I dressed him in jeans and a t-shirt. He still dresses that way at 29 -- and so do I at 53 -- I don't see how this is a problem.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Shrugs, it is not a problem for you, we all have our preferences.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I was an exchange student in California some years back, and holy shit was this right. Outside of the rare hipster (I went to UCB), most guys would have short, army-style haircuts, loose clothing and usually really ugly glasses if they wore them.

I was with a Norwegian crowd, and sometimes random guys would accuse friends of mine of being gay because they wore clothing that fit. It was like every guy had the mindset of a 6th grader.

I wonder how big TRP/PUA would be if more men knew how to dress well.

[–]InsertOffensiveWord 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes, but people at Cal also dress like shit. Not sure how often you went into the city but people are always better dressed there (that aren’t in tech).

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh I went into sf many times. Sure, more guys dressed well there, but a surprising amount still dresses like shit. Even at clubs and stuff.

[–]LeaneGenovaBreaker of (comment) Chains 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol that's painfully correct. But if you end up in an industry which prizes male fashion, you'll end up around a lot of well-groomed men, even in the midwest.

In general, though... Holy shit, it's a trainwreck.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

UC Berkeley (and other northern California and Pacific Northwest schools) have their own unwritten fashion codes. A lot of effort goes into looking non-materialistic while wearing some surprisingly expensive stuff.

I'm a product of this world. I have short hair, glasses I got ten years ago (they fit really well so why change), wear loose natural fiber clothing and good quality hiking sandals. Its what I'm comfortable in and I'm not about to change. (My ex-wife who's from SoCal really really hated the sandals.)

[–]EqualinaPurple Pill Woman 21 points22 points23 points 8 years ago (168 children) | Copy Link

I say this all the time - so many men dress like kids. It makes me question if they want a girlfriend or a mother sometimes! It’s not hard to look like a grown up. I don’t expect high fashion (in fact I’m not into men who look too put together because they ping) - just clothes the right size, no holes in them and not gym attire for basically every occasion!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (166 children) | Copy Link

What does a grown up man look like dress wise? As I wear tshirt and shorts well nearly all year long outside of work. Some of my shirts have small holes but I wear those when I am not leaving the house and/or its laundry day.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (131 children) | Copy Link

My husband lives in chinos, a belt and either a well fitting t-shirt (without holes) or a plain collared shirt. Casual leather shoes, a watch, raybans - he looks great. Like this minus the girly scarf thing.

It must fit you, it must be clean, nicely ironed is a bonus.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Haha yeah I know. My brother is a plumber so we get a lot of "you match your shoes to your belt? That's gay! You went to the theatre? Gay!"

It's all good natured and a bit of fun, but it's clear that there's very different cultures at play! My husband comes from old money and wouldn't be taken seriously by his family or at work if he didn't look put together. It is what it is.

[–]cxj75% Redpill Core Ideas 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It must fit you, it must be clean, nicely ironed is a bonus.

AKA must be tall and slim. :/

I'm short and I'm a barrel, clothes seem like they're made for tall slim people. I wear jeans with a belt, and collared shirts, it just doesn't look as good. There are lot of colors I also can't really wear (light ones).

[–]belletaco 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Fit YOU. Find clothes you like and tailor them to you and your style. You don't have to look like the guy she linked, just don't dress like you're a school boy.

[–]Eastuss༼ つ ▀̿_▀̿ ༽つ[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I don't know much how to dress else, all people with my body look ridiculous no matter what they wear, for a long time I didn't care about it because I felt it was a lost cause. I dress a bit better now but I've issue with finding right fitting jeans, I can handle the over length, but otherwise it makes my ass look like shit and makes me bigger than I am all while being very uncomfortable '

[–]belletaco 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Hmm, then they might not be the right fit jeans. Have you visited a tailor? Because they are pretty cheap when it comes to tailoring jeans and totally worth it. Maybe buy jeans that are bigger and have them take them in specifically for you? You can also take a look at this and see if you see your body type? Either way, you're married so you must be doing okay!

[–]Eastuss༼ つ ▀̿_▀̿ ༽つ[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'll have to discuss all this with my ESFP wife :p I even have hard time telling what's my body shape. She generally has good taste and good aesthetic intuition (as suggests her mbti)

Thanks for the advices!

[–]belletaco 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No problem, but if she's happy and you are happy then I wouldn't worry too much! This was more for how to attract women and it seems you've already done that.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah tall and slim definitely helps for that particular style.

If you've got fat to lose that'll help, but I think a lot of stocky guys look great in well fitting layers like this

As a non english native speaker I couldn't find what Solids mean ;( are you talking about rigid clothes?

I tend to agree too with the non-bulky layering because it hides my lower curves while emphasizing my decent shoulders.

The problem is to find something not too long or else they'll make me look even shorter, which is the main problem. Yesterday I tried to shop for a light jacket but wife said nothing suited me because everything was just too long and making me look either smaller either fatter. :/

Most clothes don't seem tailorable, and from what I've heard, it could very well cost more than the cloth itself.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (96 children) | Copy Link

Ya I am going to pass. That's something rich men wear and I ain't rich. More so that's going to cost me more than what your husband would pay for such an outfit. The shoes alone be an easy $200 right there.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

You don't need to buy designer, you could put together an outfit like that for $100 if you shopped around.

Fair enough if it's not your style though, it's definitely a trendy city guy kinda look but that's what he is.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

you could put together an outfit like that for $100 if you shopped around.

I doubt it. Even if your average height I doubt this. I know for me this outfit be an easy $300 due to my height.

Fair enough if it's not your style though

Its not, way to metrosexual for me.

[–]EqualinaPurple Pill Woman 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I think you’re probably a little overestimating the cost of an outfit like that, but I have no clue how much more it costs if you’re really tall...but I agree, he looks too metrosexual/trendy for my taste. Not all women like men dressed like that. I’m not interested in fashion in the least, so I’d assume a man dressed like that is into it and probably not going to like my no-fuss style.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think you’re probably a little overestimating the cost of an outfit like that, but I have no clue how much more it costs if you’re really tall..

I would think me being tall I would know the general cost of such an outfit least one that didn't come off as being cheap and didn't fit well.

[–]EqualinaPurple Pill Woman 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, that’s why I said I have no clue - should have been clearer, sorry.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How tall are you? What kind of stuff do you usually wear?

I'm almost 6' which puts me out of most women's pants and jeans, it's super annoying. At least we have tights and dresses and so on which can work on any height.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am 6'6". I normally wear a solid tshirt and shorts.

At least we have tights and dresses and so on which can work on any height.

Women of /r/tall would like a word.

[–]LeaneGenovaBreaker of (comment) Chains 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I'm going to have to disagree. I purchase all my fiance's clothes, and he is 6'5" and broad shouldered and long legged.

Lee chinos are $40 in big and tall sizes. (I just ordered another five pairs yesterday.) That chambray jean shirt is $60, then add ten for tailoring. Socks are $5-10 for a set of 2-3 pairs (even tall guys can wear standard sizes - mine is size 14 and wears regular).

Shoes at dsw are $60. If you have a standard brand, they're easy to order online. And the belt is maybe $30.

So if you are starting literally from scratch, maybe $200. But if you have staples like a belt, shoes, and socks, you're looking at roughly $100.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

even tall guys can wear standard sizes

I know they can. I wear XXL size socks as my shoe size itself is 15 and for my every day socks I get like 8 pair or so when I need to replace them so its more like $20 or so.

If you have a standard brand, they're easy to order online.

I do. New Balance. I just look at DSW and all their shoes in my size are like for old people, ie over 60.

And the belt is maybe $30.

Actual leather belt least not on sale is going to be easily $30. You can get a fake one for cheaper but it won't last tho.

[–]LeaneGenovaBreaker of (comment) Chains 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I mean, it's pretty clear that you've got your opinion on this. But based upon my ~15 years of buying fashionable clothes for a ridic tall guy, your insistence on price just isn't matching my experience.

Also, New Balance shoes are for old people, so it's not surprising. :) I've had really good luck with Skechers, surprisingly. Each pair the beast has had lasted several years before wearing out. And he likes to go on 8 mile walks daily. Even the sandals last a long time.

[–]aznphenix 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

[–]Jex117 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

One doubtful. Two you aren't going to do that with my sizing. The shoes alone for me are going to be an easy $200.

  1. Have you ever gone through a thrift shop?

  2. Big and tall they have it all. Skinny people thicken up and donate their clothes. Big folks slim down and donate their clothes.

  3. They've always got a bunch of leathery grandpa shoes on the rack. Always.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Have you ever gone through a thrift shop?

Yup twice actually. When I was like 9 and the size of a full grown man and again decades later when my dads then gf thought she can find clothes my size there.

Big and tall they have it all.

Ya if you are big AND tall. I ain't. I am between being skinny and big.

They've always got a bunch of leathery grandpa shoes on the rack.

Which are like size 10's at best. I wear size 15 4E wide shoes. Now what grandpa wears that size of shoe?

Most rich people are old farts who don't give a rat's ass for obvious reasons (and are irrelevant to any discussion of dating) or "old money" kids who don't actually control the money pile and couldn't afford that jacket anyway. In that case, you're not making your money work for you if you're trying to show off your richness. What is there to discuss?

So sure, that leaves people who made it big in their younger years or people who won the lottery. Doesn't change my point :)

The guy claiming the well-put-together guy is "rich" is just utterly hilarious.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

[–]belletaco 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You don't have to be rich to dress nicely. Buy a nice pair of jeans and spend the $10 it would cost to tailor them so they fit really well. Buy tshirts without holes. Even a pack of hanes t-shirts for like $5 from Target would be an upgrade from holes. It's better to have a fewer high quality pieces than a bunch of shitty things that are worn way past their expiration date.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ya no. I like to be able to walk in a pair of jeans and not stand still in them.

Kinda hard to do seeing they have like 4 holes already in them.

He’s tall but we still get most of his clothes at Target or JcPenny with some nicer pieces from better stores. He wears converse or Sperry’s. It’s not too expensive- even though giant shoes ain’t cheap.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (35 children) | Copy Link

He’s 6’4”. We get his shoes from Oddball in Portland. They have pretty frequent sales. Or we look at clearance racks at places like Nordstrom rack. But even then- if we buy him 2 pairs a year- $200/year on shoes isn’t terrible.

Buying cheap badly made shoes would be false economy if I have to replace them every year, and besides having black Nike trainers just looks cool with anything. Depending on your job you can even wear 'em to work. Having one pair of shoes you can wear all the time = good value.

Jeans/plain khaki pants and a button down short sleeved shirt? Belt optional (can look a bit preppy) Or clean, plain t-shirt, polo neck or v-neck. If it’s really hot weather, plain khaki or navy blue shorts just above the knee. It’s the patterned shorts or the really tight or really loose ones that look particularly unattractive. But I don’t even really like shorts on women outside of the beach/park, so...Shoes don’t matter much to me as long as they’re not dirty.

Most things are all right for or a casual meet up as long as they’re relatively plain, well fitting and not dirty/tatty.

It’s the men with their waistbands under their ass, baggy in your face motifed t-shirts, hoodie up and constant workout clothes that look juvenile. And so many guys under 30 dress like that when they’re not at work.

[–]concacanca 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Most men don't have big enough arms to fill them in a way that looks good. You basically need to look like Dwayne Johnson to make short sleeves look hot.

[–]officerkondoRedder Shade of Purple Man 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I like being comfy and not restrained.

There is nothing “restrained” about jeans, khakis, or a button-up shirt. A t-shirt that is too small is “restrained”, but you’d probably never say that t-shirts aren’t “comfy”.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

With jeans they can be physically restraining on me if they aren't baggy enough for my thighs. Khakis and button up shirt are restraining to me as I consider them more dressed up clothing as you have to wear a belt and tuck in the shirt, etc etc.

Yes, I, too, find clothing restraining if it is too small for me. The solution is to buy and wear clothing that fits.

Khakis and button up shirt are restraining to me as I consider them more dressed up clothing as you have to wear a belt and tuck in the shirt, etc etc.

Unless you are wearing suspenders, your pants or shorts are going to "restrain" you in some sense because they have to be fastened around your waist with enough force to keep your pants or shorts from falling down. Are your pants and shorts always falling down?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I am not talking about physically restraining here more than finding the whole look/feel of the clothes being restraining. As its a more formal look and I don't like wearing formal looking clothes.

[–]LeaneGenovaBreaker of (comment) Chains 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Only if you're wearing a tucked in shirt. If it's an untucked shirt, a belt tends to throw off the line. And you don't see the belt loops, so it obviates the need for it.

[–]1UPZ__ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Button up shirt preferrably long sleeves, you can just roll it up if its warm. No fancy or childish patterns, stick to light pastel colors or classic patterns.

Wear shorts that dont hang below your knees, lower thighs should be visible and the shorts opening should not be too baggy, it should be comfortable but not too tight, unless you've muscular legs and want to show off.

wear loafers and hidden socks rather than sneakers all the time... you can wear sneakers but choose ones that kids dont wear... so spend a bit more and buy trendy looking sneakers, but again, dont wear it every day... vary your shoe choices.

White socks that are ankle height or higher should not be worn unless you're playing soccer, basketball or trying to be ironic in the gym. Black socks are better alternates, doesnt look as childish.

If you are not comfortable wearing button down long sleeves... wear a plain white fitted shirt under it... looks neat.

Hawaiian shirts are fine if you're in Hawaii or a beach themed party...

Basketball jerseys are fine in the beach, gym or if you're at the game or at a friend's house... basically NOT in the general public like the mall or restaurant.... nothing really wrong with it... but people not into sports will judge you as childish... same applies for NFL team jerseys or NHL etc.... wear it in the appropriate locations!

Hats?.... stick to plain 1 color hats/caps... either all black or all white or all brown etc..... team caps?.... again, wear them in the appropriate locations.

Eh i mean thdytr not entirely wrong that mass manufactured clothing is generally greater towards fitting certain demographics. The same happens with women's clothing. Hard to find clotted made for slimmer people with big busts for example

Sure - it makes sense that most clothes that they make are geared towards the average body size of the average consumer. But every body size represents a potential niche market - and there are thousands of labels out there. Thanks to the internet, serving niche markets is easier than ever before.

I don't know anything about women's clothes though, but I know that men's clothing come in very differing sizes - even if they all say something like "Medium". Some brands have a set length of arms on their shirt, or a set shoulder width, or maybe a set shape for legs. In my opinion 90% of learning how to dress yourself in a presentable manner is about finding the brands that make sizes that fit your body. It doesn't have to be expensive at all.

[–]aznphenix 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I'm still not in a size range where it's prohibitively expensive, and I have enough disposable income now that even if it were it wouldn't be too much of an issue - but I can easily see why most people wouldn't or couldn't be able to pay the 100+ usd for each article of clothing they'd need to purchase from a niche supplier (some of which will then regularly go out of business as I've seen some bust friendly clothing brands do) for basics. You make it sound simple, but it's far from the truth IME.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What size range would that be ?

[–]aznphenix 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Probably the size ranges that bloggers like weirdly shaped and well photographed or brittany from thin and curvy get to, at least when they want tailored clothing that isn't super stretchy. But most of the items they show off in their blogs are fairly expensive for most people to afford imo.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Hm. I know women like that who seem to have no problem finding clothes.... But again, I don't know much about female clothes - my post is mostly geared towards male clothes. You may very well be correct on the clothes of women. I'm still very confident that most men find correct sizes if they just bother to spend some time exploring sizes and brands - which online shopping has made ridiculously easy and inexpensive.

[–]aznphenix 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean - I agree that the majority(like 60-70%, maybe even 80%) of men AND women wouldn't have that much trouble finding and affording clothes that fit them well enough. I just disagree that it's cut and dry for almost every niche market out there.

[–]CarkudoThe original opinionated omega 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Every single one of them? All men's clothes are either loose-fit or fit for one specific body shape in different sizes. And yes, I absolutely agree that it's retarded. I can make a guess as to why manufacturers don't make anything more varied, but is this really the thread for that?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Every single one of them?

And not just the men's clothes, but the women's clothes, and the childrens clothes too!

All men's clothes are either loose-fit or fit for one specific body shape in different sizes.

Trust me, unless you're the hunchback of notre dame, there are clothes that fit you. Most sizes are made for the average man, but there are fits out there for more or less everyone. Once you start recognizing the brands that have your size/fit, everything becomes easier.

If you hate going shopping, I recommend doing the following:

  1. Decide on a type of clothing you have a difficult time finding the right fit with
  2. Find one or more online stores with unconditional return policies.
  3. Buy shitloads of this clothing item in sizes around what you estimate yours to be.
  4. Try everything and return everything that doesn't fit.

Ta dah! You've just discovered brands that make your type of clothing.

Nope, that's the exact problem - women get all kinds of variety. Men get none.

Trust me, unless you're the hunchback of notre dame, there are clothes that fit you.

Nope, there are none. Better men than you have tried to find clothes that would fit me and failed. And I'm not even disfigured in any way - I just don't have a conventional masculine build, that's all.

And that's the problem with fashion "experts" like you that's caused by the aforementioned issue with male fashion. Since all male clothes are fit for a single uniform body shape, people like you have no idea that fit and size are actually different things!

No, I'm perfectly aware of this. Every brand has a different sort of "Standard" for arm length, thigh circumference, shoulder width etc. There's a reason you have trying room in every clothing store - it's not just to see if the clothes look good, but to see if they actually fit you. For me probably 80%+++ of clothes in my size aren't a good fit.

I mean, male fashion models are geared towards looking a certain way, and mass manufactured clothing is geared towards another for the most part, but there are still ways to try and find clothing styles and brands that would fit you personally the best. It takes more effort yes, but that's just life.

Rest of world, the men dress like ...homosexuals.

It's not "better" it's like a caricature. Like a cartoon cowboy.

I mean, if your "latin" or something you can pull it off.

But shoes or boots that have a needlpoint toe that sticks out four inches past your toes, red courdorouy bell-bottoms and a collar that sticks out to your shoulders, to the Americana eye, makes you look like a queer.

Sorry.

And IMHO, except for a particular kind of college or hipster gal, most women don't like guys that come off gayer than a three dollar bill.

They like guys that look manly. Even it that means jeans, tan boots and a t-shirt given to him by his boss at his construction job.

Ah good. We have a rule in the advertising industry about clothes.

'dress well, not up'

Some days that means a blazer, others it means a t-shirt and I've seen good outfits with everything in between. Most common outfit if unsure is a pair of jeans with a button down shirt.

[–]CallandoroReddish Purps 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Where on earth do people find button down shirts that aren’t cut for obese men

Basically all I can find that fits are v-necks

[–]concacanca 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I buy slim fit shirts. The wife got me some from Uniqlo really which are a pretty decent day to day variety.

For the expensive ones you need to get them tailored. I tend not to bother with many high end shirts as a result because my body never seems to be exactly the same from month to month.

[–]CallandoroReddish Purps 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yea, I wear tailored ones at my job, now that you mention it

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Just like a normal long sleeve shirt you button up? You can get those anywhere. Gap, Next, H&M, any clothing shop. Most of them are normal sizes.

I'm not in America tho. Less fatties.

Men often think being stylish means wearing ostentatious clothes.

Because well it is. Tho I ignore the whole style thing as I like keeping my money and buy clothes I know that will last a while than clothes that won't. I say that as a lot of styleish clothing doesn't last long. I have 3 dickie shorts that I got something like 10 years ago it seems and still holding up. I am much more interested in long lasting clothing that stylish clothing. As clothes for me aren't cheap and the fancy (ie stylish) clothing that's in my size is twice in price than my current clothing which by and large ain't cheap.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Because well it is.

It really isn't. Style for a man (unless you have a very clear desire to fit into some niche category) is about finding the right sizes, colors and combinations. Finding colors that match your skin tone and hair/eye color, and sizes/producers that fit your body shape well. Men who are aware of this will look really well put together with jeans and a t-shirt. Men who aren't will look like slobs. This is really important for men who struggle with women, because a lot of women may find you atttractive, but if you dress like shit they will feel like they'd be embarrassed to be seen next to you.

For both. And specifically for dating/dating profiles

Don't be fat or obese. Skinny, fit, athletic, built, chubby ( some extra padding but not rolls) is all pretty acceptable. Not busting the shocks out your car fat. If you are fat, accept that only other fat people will want to date you.

Be clean, washed, don't smell bad. If you use perfumes or cologne don't bathe in it, less is more. When in doubt ask a friend, if they can smell you from ten feet away you used too damn much.

I don't care much about fashion, but please have clean clothes without rips and stains. Newer clothes are better, stop wearing that 20 yr old concert tee in public or pictures. If your underwear isnt new and clean toss that shit in the garbage and buy some new ones. Dress in clothes made in the last two years. Yes we all have those ten yr old jeans. And they look ten years old. You dont look fashionable, you look poor. You can find better at goodwill even if you are poor.

Don't take any selfie laying in bed pics, no shirtless in the mirror pics, no dirty house, no dirty bathroom, no dirty mirror. No selfies at all unless they are with friends at an interesting place. The only okay topless pics are taken by a friend at the beach.

No dead animals. I live in the bible belt and there are more pics of dead deer, turkey, and fish than pics of people. Sure take a pic of you dressed in camo with a caption stating you are a hunter. One with a fishing pole is kinda nice. A dead bleeding eyes rolled back tongue sticking out deer is NOT. I even love deer meat and would happily go hunting ( they are overpopulated here) but I don't wanna see that on a dating site.

I think this is most important. Have some fucking hobbies that include other people and leaving the house. If you have no friends and never go anywhere I will instantly pass. Figure something out that isn't a snore filled evening of sitting on your couch glued to phone, tv, or gaming system. I love my xbox and I say this. Get. Out. And. Be. Social. Something, anything.

To me, looks are less an issue than if I can have a conversation. There is chemistry, that i have found has little to do with looks, fitness, or anything else and more to do with simply being able to talk about nothing with no pressure. This isnt something you can change, but if you look for it you will be happier in the relationships you do have.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There have been years I actually didn't spend that much (not including shoes which are hard to get on the cheap). You can get a three pairs of jeans or Khakis and four cotton t-shirts at Walmart for $63.50.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

How is that a complete reasonable clothing budget? Not all of us here are UMC. I don't have a set clothing budget as I buy stuff as it needs replacing. Which means $20 there and there unless its pants or shoes then its a lot more.

[–]officerkondoRedder Shade of Purple Man 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

How is that a complete reasonable clothing budget?

It is reasonable based on the price of clothing in the United States of America. Most American will have far bigger budgets for their smartphone, cable/satellite, or general entertainment.

Not all of us here are UMC.

You needn't be to spend $100 on clothes in the course of a year. Look, you can go into a discount clothing store like Target or Old Navy and easily pass $100 just by getting a few shirts and pairs of jeans/pants.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Most American will have far bigger budgets for their smartphone, cable/satellite, or general entertainment.

They do. Tho part of it is due to lack of competition. For example for tv in any given area there's maybe 2 companies that offer tv service. For me I have literally two companies to pick from despite living in a major metropolitan area. This means they can jack up the prices for tv service.

Look, you can go into a discount clothing store like Target or Old Navy and easily pass $100 just by getting a few shirts and pairs of jeans/pants.

That be a lot of clothes.

[–]officerkondoRedder Shade of Purple Man 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Tho part of it is due to lack of competition

Regardless, so what? The discussion is what most people allocate for various expenses, not the market forces that determine those prices.

That be a lot of clothes.

Where do you buy your clothes? A pair of jeans or pants will be $25 and a shirt will be at least $10, so it doesn't take much to break $100.

Hit the gym. Get used to talking to women so that you're not awkward and you can be playful and funny instead of neurotic and anxious. Clothes and hair and personal grooming and shit probably wouldn't hurt, but it kinda depends what "niche" of women you want to attract.

If you have a weak jaw, grow a beard, even if its a bit shitty.

While I agree with this, I must emphasize:

Under NO circumstances should you trim your beard in an attempt to manufacture a jawline. It only serves to make you look even fatter. Your beard should run along your actual jawline, even if it's tubby.

Unfortunately I am a bit late to the party, but there actually is something women can do to be more attractive to the opposite sex besides merely trying to be more good-looking: cultivating personal pleasantness and kindness.

A few months ago I switched jobs and got a bunch of new colleagues, and one of them struck out, simply because she was just likeable. To this I have to add that albeit she's pretty, she isn't beautiful (for starters, there are prettier girls in the same office, though I have to add that her smiling a lot makes up for that), she's married and already has two children - so it's not as if she was the hottest thing ever (and her personal status was certainly enough to suffocate any actual interest I might have had otherwise).

BUT she combined kindness, a fun personality and extroversion - she is a person I have a hard time imagining bitching or complaining about problems real or imagined, and not because she's a Stepford smiler who bottles everything up or a pushover, but simply because she radiates a positive attitude (bonus points for having a motherly personality). I think a woman like her could nail down a man better-looking women wouldn't get, or at least wouldn't get long-term - she is sufficiently good-looking to beat the visual requirements, and more than makes up for it with personal charisma when compared with even prettier ones.

The problem however is that you can't get a pleasant personality and sunny disposition out of thin air - telling a girl to emulate her basically is like telling a guy to "be confident": even though we aren't talking about hard attributes like looks and height etc., personality is still not that malleable.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is actually true, what is happening? I am upvoting red pills today...surreal.

But you are correct that a sweet disposition is a huge plus in women and it's also not something you can teach. Charm school can only mask a harpy.

Unfortunately - things would be much easier if one could just "learn" that. But it really struck me when I met that colleague because such a sunny disposition and the absence of passive-aggressiveness is so exceedingly rare.

Q4M:What can women do to be more attractive?

From a physical standpoint

  • Do squats - for me the bigger the behind the better (muscles, not cellulite)
  • Tone down the make up, or kill it if needed. No make up = best make up.
  • Wear non skimpy clothes.
  • Take care of your hair

From a personality standpoint

  • Don't play dumber than you are
  • Don't make false giggles or other corny stuff
  • Be blunt
  • Don't lie - not even small ones - yes they are harmful too.
  • Don't shit test.
  • Take responsibility and don't shift blame onto somebody else or society if you screwed up

When you go from washing your hair every day to washing it less regularly, there's a transition period. Eventually your hair will become less greasy, so you only need to wash it every few days. But in the transition period, dry shampoo helps.

I have tried this before in the past, I thought it was good and that it was working, until I switched back to washing it every other day, then I realised how amazing clean hair is.

Yes, it's to do with the time spent. That excuse can also be used for not showering daily or regularly. At the end of the day, it is noticeable if you have freshly washed hair or not. It's only an issue if freshly washed hair is important to you.

TIL there is something called "dry shampoo".

Is this an April Fools joke.

Or is it one of those chemistry gotchas like "lol technically it's dry cuz no water" like it's an alcohol gel that evaporates or something?

I suppose I could google this but I'm just going straight to youtube this time.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, it's basically like scented baby powder. It absorbs the oil on your scalp, and you brush it out, resulting in less greasy looking hair.

I hate this mentality, i also hate that women don't focus any energy on their upper body so you have men walking around looking like Popeye and women looking like a wacky inflatable arm waving tube man up top and Kim Kardashian on the bottom. Everyone should work on full body. Proportion over errrything.

[–]Million-SunsMarriage is obsolete -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's why I don't skip leg days and try to lift heavy. (Close to 661 lb on leg press) so I justly don't look like Popeye.

I'm not fan of women working on upper limbs because that increase their testosterone and might make them look like too manly. No limits on lower limbs for them though.

Oh god, not that stupid myth. It's part of the reason women don't life weights and it's SO untrue. Women will notttttttt get bulky just by training their arms once or twice a week. Women who do train VERY hard specifically to look that way. Women should absolutely train their shoulders, chest, back, triceps and biceps because we are more prone to 'wings' and back fat. They will not look like a man, just more proportionate.

I am wealthy but this is all fantasy talk. I don’t pay a stylist, a trainer (in fact, I’m posting between sets), a chef, or a personal assistant. I just know how to dress, exercise, and cook. Learning to do all these things is free.

This is just “rich people have others do it for then, so middle-class/prole me should be excused”. Ok.

[–]officerkondoRedder Shade of Purple Man 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, wealth makes many things easier. That's the primary reason why people like to acquire wealth. But, when someone says, "people should do X to be more attractive" and the retort is, "yeah, rich people have it easy because they pay a personal assistant to keep them from eating doughnuts", it really comes off as an excuse. People who know that they are doing what they can to be successful don't mention how much easier some other guy has it. If the topic is being in shape, you're not going to see a whole lot of people with abs saying, "the rich have it easier with their concierge personal trainers!"

[–]officerkondoRedder Shade of Purple Man 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's easier though.

It can be easier for them, if they choose to spend their time and money on such things. But, a lot of them still look just as crappy as any prole because they lack the inclination.

Again, knowing how to eat right, dress, and exercise are pretty basic life skills that an adult shouldn't moan and groan about acquiring. You think people can't prepare a healthy meal for themselves because it's too expensive? No, they just don't give a shit and McDonald's tastes good. (seriously, McDonald's is tasty)

[–]aznphenix 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

McD is okay. It's good for a cheap late night snack.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You don't need to be wealthy to be attractive. It's easier though.

Yes. This is especially true as you age. Maintenance expenses go up a lot as you get older.

[–]aznphenix 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

All those things are free but difficult to push yourself to do for most people. Paying someone that makes you do them makes it easier.

[–]officerkondoRedder Shade of Purple Man 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

difficult to push yourself to do for most people

I agree with this comment and apply it even to myself. Almost always, I know the right thing to do but a lot of times I don't because it would be too damn hard.

But yes, of course paying someone to do something for you (or make you do something) is obviously easier than doing it yourself. That's why I pay guys to detail my car and mow my lawn. It is harder to do things without being spoon-fed, but that is far from making such things like cooking, personal grooming, and exercise insurmountable. These are just basic life skills, more especially the cooking and personal grooming. Seriously, I am baffled by adults who cannot prepare a meal for themselves beyond boiled pasta.

[–]aznphenix 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

dammit my eta didn't show up again.

I don't think the comment you were replying to was trying to make excuses for not doing those things. Just stating why it's easier for rich people to get high SMV/RMV beyond just the status that wealth itself might give you.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All those things are free but difficult to push yourself to do for most people.

This is another area where being better off helps. If you have to expend all your effort just surviving it's difficult to push yourself. Being better off gives you the luxury of being able to direct energy into self-improvement. I'm not rich but I am situated well enough that today I was able to leave work an hour early to go to the gym and still be home early enough to cook a decent dinner and watch a DVD with my kids. This is the kind of freedom people who aren't poor often take for granted (having been poor I don't).

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

But it is very likely that you own at least some equipment for working out, or that you go to a gym that owns said equipment. Did that equipment or gym membership materialize out of thin air? Did your kitchen? Fresh ingredients for cooking?

Sure, you can save some money by teaching yourself how to dress, exercise and cook, but at the same time, being wealthy gives you lots and lots of options that a less wealthy person may not have, and it basically makes everything (even learning how to do stuff) a lot easier. For example, if you want to learn how to cook with little money, you'll have to rely on sources that are available for free or relatively cheap instead of buying books or taking a class, and you'll have to cook on a budget. If one of your experiments goes wrong, you'll feel extra bad about it because it cost so much money to buy the ingredients, and you then have to decide between eating horrible food or being hungry. That takes away some of your motivation for trying out new recipes.

[–]officerkondoRedder Shade of Purple Man 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Did that equipment or gym membership materialize out of thin air?

No. While it is not my gym, Planet Fitness is $10/month with no contract. Similarly, the local YMCA is damn cheap and they generally offer financial assistance on membership dues for those who can demonstrate a need.

Did your kitchen?

No, I paid for it because I am not homeless. My advice consumed that my audience had sufficient means to have food and shelter. I know they are homeless redditors, but I don't think that tips for cooking and fashion are usually on their minds.

Fresh ingredients for cooking?

No, I buy them from a grocery store. Since food is required to live, my advice assumed that my audience could afford food to eat. If this is not the case for you, you have bigger concerns than my cooking and fashion advice.

being wealthy gives you lots and lots of options that a less wealthy person may not have

Yes, that is the whole point of being wealthy.

or example, if you want to learn how to cook with little money, you'll have to rely on sources that are available for free or relatively cheap instead of buying books or taking a class

That's true. Have you heard of the Internet? It allows one to learn just about anything for zero dollars and zero cents.

and you'll have to cook on a budget.

Yes, you would. I buy chicken breast for $2.99/lb. In other words, I can get 2-3 pounds of chicken for the cost of a fast food value meal. Food is cheap.

If one of your experiments goes wrong, you'll feel extra bad about it because it cost so much money to buy the ingredients

Well, lost costs are a risk in any endeavor but you won't lose much if you find a way to screw up some lean protein and green vegetables. What alternative do you suggest, the dollar menu? Did you not learn to cook? That's a basic life skill.

and you then have to decide between eating horrible food or being hungry.

Are you strapped for cash? If I make a recipe and it doesn't work out, there is other food in the kitchen.

That takes away some of your motivation for trying out new recipes.

You can eat whatever you like. You presented quite a defense of eating crappy convenience foods.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's not that I personally don't know how to cook or struggle particularly badly with finances. That's not my point.

My point is that at least where I live, frozen fast food items from the supermarket are often much cheaper than fresh ingredients. I wasn't talking about fancy-ass fast food menus from a restaurant, but rather frozen pizza from Lidl or Aldi that costs 2-3€ for a pack of three pizzas, or a kg of lasagna for 3€. You can have one of those pizzas as a whole meal for one person, that is less than 1€ per meal. I know how to cook, and therefore I also know that it is pretty fucking hard to make a healthy home cooked meal for less than 1€ per person.

About the kitchen: I wasn't only referring to a room with a stove and a fridge. I know that every flat comes with one of those. I was referring to all the additional equipment needed for cooking and baking, like pots, pans, knives, cutting boards, a hand mixer, wooden spoons, baking trays, spatulas, adequate containers for food, etc. When you've rarely or never really cooked before (or you just moved out of someone else's place where all of that stuff was available) you need to buy at least some of it.

Also, I wasn't aware that gym memberships are that cheap in the US. Gym memberships around here cost at least 20€, and that's at the shittiest gyms with the shittiest contracts (the ones that last two years minimum, so if you move or you decide to go to another gym, you're stuck in a contract).

[–]officerkondoRedder Shade of Purple Man 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

frozen fast food items from the supermarket are often much cheaper than fresh ingredients.

Omit "fast food" and yeah, that's true where I live and just about everywhere else. I actually prefer to eat frozen vegetables. There is no health detriment to eating frozen vegetables.

I also know that it is pretty fucking hard to make a healthy home cooked meal for less than 1€ per person.

I agree. So what? Why is less than 1€ per person the standard? Why not spend a few dollars per person? I can tell you that my family's grocery budget is about $50/person/week and we eat quite well and healthfully. For example, I get chicken breast for about $3/lb, so my family can have a dinner for about $10 for all four of us once you throw in some vegetables. It's not hard.

Well, no shit, but you don't need to buy it all at once. Again, pots, pans, and kitchen knives are essentials. You may as well be complaining that toilet paper costs money.

Also, I wasn't aware that gym memberships are that cheap in the US. Gym memberships around here cost at least 20€

And of course, one only needs a gym if one is going to do weight training. If you are just doing cardio, you can do it outdoors, which is free. My observation is that a lot more people have cardio as their workout activity than weight lifting.

Do you wonder why you keep thinking about why things cannot be done instead of thinking about how they can be done?

[–]rpwthrowaway2016LD LTR 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And even if you do need to buy the equipment, you can get them for cheap at thrift stores and dollar stores. When I was a student, I was using pots from Goodwill and knives from Dollar Tree. Far from ideal, but it'll work as a start.

For both, don't be unnecessarily combative. If you're on a first date with someone, and you immediately try to instigate or escalate the conversation into something heated, that sends a red flag that you are not a team player. A romantic relationship is a team effort. If you're constantly trying to dominate the other person, you're no longer a teammate, and now a rival.

Being a cunt/jerk is not attractive.

Being financially stable and healthy are important, but obvious. Of course no woman want to date a fat guy who can't support himself. So many guys on here ignore the importance of personality though.

[–]Miss-Deed 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why of course! I think it's just how they confuse being fit and having their own money, with "having huge muscles and being super rich". The former is great, the later is unnecessary in my opinion.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah exactly. The difference between being fit and being jacked is so minimal to me. Would much rather an average bodied guy who can hold a conversation and keep me interested than a boring Adonis

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Of course no woman want to date a fat guy who can't support himself. So many guys on here ignore the importance of personality though.

Even if he can support himself very few women want a fat guy. If you're a fat guy it doesn't matter how great your personality is since you'll never get a chance to showcase it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Yup, same with women. Don't be fat y'all.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Actually - no it's not. There are quite a few male chubby chasers who consider fat women good LTR prospects and even more horny guys who will have a casual relationship with a fat woman (some because they are closet chubby chasers others because they are just horny).

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Oh come off it. Look at every response from a man in this thread. What do they all have in common?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

I have a female friend who's married but openly sees other guys. She weighs a bit over 400 pounds and never has any problems finding dates (she's well into a three digit n-count). An she's not the only one. I know only one fat woman (and I know quite a few) who has trouble finding dates and that's because she's socially hopeless not because she's fat (her fatter and less pretty sister hooks up all the time).

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What are the men that your 400 pound friend is attracting like?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

There are a lot of them so there is quite a variety. However, she would never hookup with guys who were ugly or more than a little bit fat. She only dated white guys (or in my case someone who can pass for white). She is (or at least was in her younger years) a very pretty fat girl -- pretty face -- thick black hair -- exaggerated hourglass figure -- nice light brown skin (Samoan and Dutch).

Go to the gym and don’t be such a cunt. Your chances of being a massive nagging bitch happily married to a financially stable, self-respecting masculine man is extremely low.

Lol sure but men are rarely referred to as cunts unless you’re across the pond.

[–]MisterJose 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Depends on what kind of attractive you are going for. If you want to pull off air-headed sex kitten, perhaps you can, and hey you'd make me pretty happy if you were hot and wanted to do that for me. But that's a different thing than a relationship among peers. For that you need to be reasonably smart and on a similar wavelength as me, and not deal-breakingly physically unattractive.

Question for Women: What can men do to be more attractive?

The dishes.

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I wanted to upvote you because I chuckled, however, the problem is that this is legimitately bad advice because doing traditionally feminine household chores is the opposite of what Sheryl Sandberg claims.

[–]Willow-girlACAB (All Cows Are Beautiful) 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

And is she some sort of expert on relationships? Or just a (very wealthy) COO? That's not to discount her opinion, of course (everyone is entitled, etc.) but that's all it is, IMO. If some woman is turned off by the sight of her man elbow-deep in the suds, he should probably avoid housework -- by all means! AFAIC, work is just work, and anytime the man picks up my slack, it gives me a bit of much-appreciated breathing room. Which increases the chance I'll rip his pants off later! But that's just my opinion -- your mileage may vary.

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No, Sheryl Sandberg came up with this gem (and the comment section indicates that men are not that dumb to not notice what this is about).

The reality is, however, that men who do traditionally feminine household chores have less sex than those who do. So much about choreplay.

[–]Willow-girlACAB (All Cows Are Beautiful) 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Hmm, I don't see Sandberg saying that men shouldn't help out around the home; rather, quite the opposite.

And I agree that "choreplay" (occasionally helping out -- and generally making a great show of it -- in order to earn brownie points from one's wife) probably isn't helpful.

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hmm, I don't see Sandberg saying that men shouldn't help out around the home; rather, quite the opposite.

Probably because I worded it poorly.

What I meant was that

this is legimitately bad advice because doing traditionally feminine household chores is the opposite of what Sheryl Sandberg claims

with Sheryl Sandberg's claim being "nothing is sexier".

[–]Willow-girlACAB (All Cows Are Beautiful) 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would say that nothing is sexier than having a man who is a full and contributing partner in marriage/LTR. It doesn't really matter to me if he's doing the dishes or a brake job on the car, as long as he's contributing.

A man who shirks and expects his wife to do all the housework and childcare, while picking up after him as if he were just another child -- that's unattractive, IMO. "Choreplay" on the nights he's hoping to get lucky is probably not going to make a positive impression.

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]OfSpock 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If a guy opens his mouth and his lack of intelligence is immediately obvious, it's a turn off. That's not the same as intelligence creating comfort. It's a minimum requirement (for me).

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Same for that.

Lack of intelligence might legitimately be a turn off (my take on intelligence is that it's a trait that mostly helps with assortative mating), but on the other hand intelligence in itself isn't really a turn on.

[–]SlimLovinHigh Value to Own the Libs 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think you understand how female attraction works.

Sometimes, "comforting" IS attractive.

[–]rpwthrowaway2016LD LTR 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People have already covered physical appearance, so I won't.

For men: have a meaningful (to you) goal that you're working towards, or meaningful hobbies. I see many of my friends doing nothing but going to work/school and engaging in passive media consumption, and it makes them boring. Chances are that high-quality women will 1) be outside doing interesting things and/or 2) will want to date a guy who does interesting things. Doing those things will give you stories to tell people, which will make you seem more interesting. And it will also help to ward off existential dread, which obviously is not attractive (unless you're going for the tortured artist vibe or something).

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For women? As most have told already, being slim, skinny (translation: not fat, no "extra pounds") is a very good thing. Not getting ugly tattoos is very nice thing too. Such women are pretty rare nowadays. What else..Just don't be fat.

[–]rainisthelifeFacepalm 😑 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For men: Exercise and don’t be fat. If you aren’t tall, work on your posture (you’ll be amazed at what that can sometimes do to the perception of height). Be confident with a good sense of humor. Stop trying to dominate and act like you have something to prove. Don’t nag about sex. Drop the entitled attitude.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

For women:

--lose weight

--don't be a bitch

--keep your hair long

--stop talking so much about things that don't matter

--don't lie about things that do matter

All of this is advice for men, because women are born desired.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

men: be willing to work hard, eat healthy, take care of your health and body, keep an open and a curious mind, educate yourself, read books, go out into the forest or something, sometimes, have a hobby of some sort that isn't about "collecting things", get a good sense of style, find clothes and styles that fit you, have fresh clothes for any day and occasion, get your teeth fixed, go mindfully about your insta-gratification addictions (gaming, smoking, alcohol, gamble, whatever else is there - don't let it take over your life), learn basic manners and social skills.

that's about it. be willing.

[–]ganso_bum 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hrmmm, you know the more attractive a woman is, the less I want anything to do with her. Hot = you're doing more work for less in return because they know they're hot and therefore feel entitled to it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Be hygienic and take good care of yourself. Make sure your outfit, hair and makeup are on point. Making sure you're at a healthy weight might make you more conventionally attractive but it won't make someone more attractive to me personally.

[–]Ultramegasaurus 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, the topic is kind of moot. Men are so diverse in their tastes, that only few things make women universally more attractive.

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I would say that having long hair is universally attractive. Sure, you'll occasionally find a man who thinks otherwise, but generally you're best off if you have long hair as a woman. This includes women who look good with short hair, because they usually look better with long hair.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I can address the long hair issue since you likely have never heard this before:

Most women cannot grow long hair that looks good.

Shocking, right? Bet you never knew it was fake hair extensions and they are genetically incapable of anything but stringy thin hair. But that is your red pill for the day!

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Most women cannot grow long hair that looks good.

What? That's so far off, I can't even.

But let's roll with it for a moment. Even if that was the case, it matters far less than you think as long as they look worse with short hair. Which most of them do.

Bet you never knew it was fake hair extensions and they are genetically incapable of anything but stringy thin hair.

Quite frankly, the only women I've seen wear extensions as a rule were the few black women I've got to know.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This came as a surprise to me in my thirties, when women kept telling me their hair was not their own. White women. They all had extensions to achieve hair that looked effortless

[–]DestributedCrowBot 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I really like t-shirts and jeans on a really fit girl. I also like a short dress. It really depends on the occasion. I think applying the right outfit to the right activity is key.

Women:

-dont be fat

-most have nice hair, make sure you are one of them

-soft make up is better than stark makeup if you aren't that good with it

-have some identity. Most women seem to dress like hairdressers, be a bit light on non social media hobbies and even eat/drink roughly the same things

-dont be a bitch. Men have to be fun and funny, you just have to be bright and bubbly from time to time. If you are a nagger, just stop. You don't need to nag about what you are nagging about so just go over to askwomen and join the circle jerk there

-have the ability to talk about something more than Netflix

-break the touch barrier and not just on the arms. I remember one girl lightly rested her hand on my chest once and it upped my interest level a lot (was never going to work but we did kiss just to check lol)

Pretty sure that covers it.

Question for Men: What can women do to be more attractive?

Pentagon General, sweating: Doctor! What can we do to prevent a disaster?!

Mad scientist, dramatically taking off his glasses: Nothing, General. We can do nothing.

At this point, any effort women make to become more attractive to men in general or to me in particular, automatically translates into "she wants something; probably money". But if I had da magicks to fix one thing in women's behavior relative to their attractiveness, I'd make all perfume oriented on adult women 20% less potent. This cloud of aromatic ethers that you can feel as soon as you walk behind a woman or sit next to her in a public transport gives me aneurysm.
