Height is the single most important factor in getting casual sex. If you’re like me and 5’6, your possibilities for casual sex are next to impossible. Short men can find a gf though, because LTRs are about other things.

The “taller than me” thing is funny, because if that were the case every short woman I hit on would be DTF cause it’s not like I was hitting up giraffes for sex. These women are always the “I’m fine with 5’7 men! It’s just my exes and current bf are all 6 foot! Teehee”

A few notes about height –

There is no single human physical feature that is more critical to sexual attraction to the opposite sex than is male height. There really is no female equivalent; not breasts, butts, legs, w/h ratio, or faces. The preference for tall men is virtually universal amongst women. Men, on the other hand, can be very physically attracted to women who are lacking in any of those female features. Hell, men can have strong fetishes for fat women, dwarf women, musclebound women, what have you – while there is no recorded instance of a woman having a fetish for short men.
As has been noted, there is a strong tendency for women to desire men who are taller than most other men, and NOT merely taller than they themselves are. Hypergamy is nothing if not an attraction/desire behavior rooted in relative, and not absolute, attractiveness.
The biggest “height queens” of all, if you will, are very attractive, very short women. These are the women with abundant options who are most insistent that their romantic interests be reserved for men who tower over them by 10” and often much more. It is as if they are subconsciously driven to seek out reproductive opportunities to correct their short stature. I happen to be the result of such a pairing, my own dad being a foot taller than my mom (and 6” taller than me).
Ironically, I suppose, it is often taller women who are more forgiving of men being slightly shorter than they are. At least that has been my observation as a mature, experienced 5’8” dude. I’ve personally always done better with women of average height and taller than I did with objectively short women.

All men are unattractive by default even if you exclude height as women aren't attracted to dick, just everything that surrounds that it.

But you are correct. Most women say that a man just has to be taller than THEM but I don't believe that this is true, at all. Most men are already taller than most women but most women want men that are taller than other men as they want men who are better than other men in everything else which obviously excludes most men. I remember watching a video on height and how stupidly low the chances of a sub 5'8 man finding a date were and this isn't far from average. Now imagine being a man shorter than this and competing with men who are slightly taller but do just as much as you, if not, more.

Women have it easier than they'll ever know.

Everything about attraction is asymmetrical. Women prefer men with masculine traits and men prefer women with feminine ones. Height is not only masculine but it's also been seen in society as a marker for good genes, health and standing in society.

Height is very important. I would say it is the second most important thing. However, face is the most important. Height and face together are more important than being muscular.

The thing I wonder is that for women height is not really valuable at all (unless you are in the extreme 6'+ or below 4'9'

What are you trying to say? And 6'1 is not "extreme" at all. Being below 5'7 however makes you quite short, and generally women look for a man that is at least 5'11 (maybe slightly shorter if the average height in the country is shorter) or at least taller than her.

Many say that the equivalent of a short guy would be a fat woman, but that's really not true since fat men (although they do slightly better than fat women) are also not attractive.

It's not true because men settle for much lower SMV women than the other way around. So even a fat woman would be able to get a decent guy.

So I feel like most women want men significantly taller than them, but guys are fine with most heights (at least in terms of attraction).

Women generally want men that are taller than them. Pretty much all of them do, unless maybe you can make up for it otherwise.

Height isnt the only reason. Think of the 80/20 rule. Most women are chasing the top SMV men, while men settle for lower SMV women. That's called hypergamy. The ratio of attractive women is definitely higher. Men settle, women are hypergamous. Are most unattractive? I wouldnt say so. However, to be considered significantly attractive, you would need to by tall with a good face, and being muscular helps. Men can make up for this best with status.

Being the tallest guy in the NBA means you get all the ladies, I guess. Or can there be an argument of diminishing returns? Say, men between 6' and 6'4" are ideal...taller gets less attractive, shorter gets categorized as weak lame shit, even if they can outlift Arnold, like the 5'5" Columbu.

I agree. There’s probably more pressure on height for men when it comes to sexual selection than any other factor. Short guys have it tough, heck I’m 5 foot 11 and I hate my height. I can’t imagine what those who are under 5 foot 9 feel. I think there’s a reason why each generation gets significantly taller despite levels of nutrition either staying the same or in some parts of the US, it’s getting worse. Women are increasingly leaving out a significant proportion of men who are below average in height from the mating game. If I was a guy who was 5 foot 9 or below, I’d go to India to get my legs stretched. I’ve seen more stupid tall and average height men have more success with women than short intelligent guys. Height trumps intelligence and is almost more important than face.

yes, because women are naturally hypergamous. it's not just height. women really want their man to be above average in every important trait and characteristic. if you're in the bottom half of men in terms of looks you're unattractive. below average social status? unattractive. below average income? unattractive. etc.

and it's not the kind of thing where being slightly above average in one area can cancel out being below average in another area.

Height was not this big of a deal before OLD. I’ve said this before but think it bears repeating:

When I was growing up “tall” was the nice girl answer when someone asked you what kind of boys you liked. It was non-sexual and unchanging. People gain weight, get old, lose their hair, he will always be tall. It was the same thing as guys saying “Pretty eyes” or “nice smile” in regards to what they like in girls. Now, women use height to imagine how a man will make them feel when looking at pictures and a flat profile on a dating site.

So to me, it sounds like you’re saying “Is masculinity a source of asymmetry between men and women?” Which is kind of obvious... right?

Most societies show assortive mating for height, so, possibly. However, this pattern holds up even in societies with arranged marriages, so attraction may not be the full story.

While I agree that anecdotally the women I know seem to express height preferences more than the men I know, studies have shown that many men do in fact have preferences in this regard and prefer women to be shorter than them.

This beauty standard is not fully universal. Egalitarian hunter gatherer populations, such as the hadza, do not show any assertive mating for height, nor do they indicate height as a relevant variable when polled as to what they care about. Hadza do show assortive mating for grip strength, with stronger men and women pairing, and both genders indicate caring about foraging skills (among other things such as good character, beauty, etc)
