It’s been six weeks since my stbxw told me it was over. 19 years married. She has been nothing but clear and resolute that she is done and there’s nothing I can do. Issues on both sides that I thought we could work through and we had been talking about them up to the point of D day. Though, conveniently, the focus has been on what I’ve done. No affair, it’s been confirmed and I’m confident about that.

Obviously she checked out much earlier before she told me, but I just keep trying to talk her out of it. She moved out on Saturday and I’m still in denial.

Very frustrating that the decision was solely hers. How can I move on when we only talked about the issues but wasn’t given the chance to actually address them and move forward. We tried one counseling session but she put in zero effort and told me she didn’t think it would do anything.

22 years together, how does someone just say nope, I’m done, and that’s that without putting in the effort. She had been reading a lot of self help books, listening to podcasts and took exercising to a whole new level dealing with coming from 2 divorces her Mom went through as a kid and how she brought that into adulthood. So now, as I see it, me and our kids are the collateral damage from her now being the person she’s supposed to be. She said she’s changed and she needs to focus on her happiness. I truly miss the person she was and who I fell in love with.

I tried to talk with her again tonight and she refused saying “there’s no point”. What do I need to do to kick myself in the ass to just let go and begin healing? My rational side says it’s over but my emotional side keeps saying I can get her to change her mind, and that side is winning.

I feel so stupid that I keep trying.

Any of you have a very difficult time coming to acceptance and getting on with your life? What finally made you come to terms?
