This is amazing. I basically just did the same thing to my NVM ex (recently posted on FDS).
I’ll never have an argument or “cOmMuNicAtE” with a LVM again. Block delete and ghost.

I did the whole change my number and block everything. 7 years ago. I don’t think I’ve ever dealt with the pain. It was like I blocked him from myself too. I didn’t grieve or feel anything but now it’s coming out in other ways. I’m sorry he sucks.

Underrated so important to talk about this. Any relationship leaves it’s mark on anyone. There should low key be self help threads and PDFs and stuff linked here - everyone’s trying to improve themselves or get over bad if not trauma in relationships.
Making sure it doesn’t happen again is only one piece

Gf, I had to go to therapy to get over my LVM ex. I loved that man for almost five years and he cheated on me with a dime store version of myself. I tried no contact - I tried WHY DID YOU LIE TO ME - I tried to get closure - all of it leaves scars. I wish I had stayed strong and not contacted like you. Go to therapy and see if you have stuff to get out. It is so embarrassing how long this shit plays out on your heart and mind (I still struggle occasionally a year and a half later), but if you want to continue on your leveling up - get the help you need.

The only problem I have with this post is that she left the fucking game for him. Why the hell didn’t she just keep it or take it back? Honestly, that part sort of kills the momentum for me.
[–]spiceylifeyFDS Newbie454 points455 points456 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I agree, but I also think it adds an extra something to the story. It shows her ex she was there and she knew exactly what he was doing. I also think it speaks to her character a bit. She was caring and she bought him a gift, and she still let him keep it. Everytime he saw it he would’ve thought of her and what he had screwed up. She didn’t get revenge, she just left because he wasn’t worth it. I think it’s inspiring
[–]CosineMeSenpiFDS Newbie183 points184 points185 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It absolutely speaks to her character as a person, however it’s optimistic to think he would look at the game and think of her with any sort of meaningful regret - he either played it with a clear conscience and never thought of her once while he did (as with the cheating), or he did feel regret that he was caught and no longer has access to her emotional, financial and physical labour. He never valued her.
[–]SaltwichPickmeisha™️141 points142 points143 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Oh no honey that’s the best part 😈It’s a slow burn:
First he wakes up, staggers into the kitchen, sees the breakfast and the game on the table thinks “omg sweet!” and that stomach-dropping Oh SHIT moment when he realizes he was caught. Leaving the game almost certainly ruined not only the game for him, but every game in the series. He’d never be able to play then again without thinking of that moment.
[–]dragon_wolf4FDS Newbie38 points39 points40 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That is how someone with a conscience would react. I doubt her ex-bf had any.
[–]SaltwichPickmeisha™️31 points32 points33 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
True, but I'm not thinking so much that he would feel guilt, as the humiliation of getting caught, and dropped without a backwards glance. He thought he had her wrapped around his finger, five year relationship, playing her the whole time, what a dumbass she is, etc. Then he's completely denied his chance to see the tears and the screaming, and try to lie his way out of it. He was just shut DOWN. Probably the first time in his life he'd ever not had the chance to lie and manipulate and gaslight his way out of something. I just know that had fucked up his ego for a looooooong time, and I think the game would be a forever reminder of that epic burn.
[–]3vad127FDS Newbie193 points194 points195 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It’s proof that she was there and that she saw him with his ex. The breakfast alone isn’t really telling, but if he sees a game he knows he told her about earlier, then he also knows she was in his apartment and likely caught him red handed.
I know she also left the key, but I think the game stings a little more. It shows she always cared about him and his interests while he was nothing but disrespectful. But maybe I’m reading too much into it lol
[–]SayNadFDS Apprentice16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I do believe it will sting because if there's any moment a cheater will feel something if you left a proof of kindness for them too see yet don't let them defend themselves in confrontation, you just ghost them. It is like a solid punch to their conscience.
I believe cheaters (at least not the ones with actual personality disorder) do feel guilty, but they are so used to mental gymnastics and blame shifting, if you don't allow them to do all of those, maintain your kindness yet abruptly ghost them, it will scar them for real.
[–]palmettojlaFDS Newbie46 points47 points48 points 5 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Agreed. I would of atleast tossed the breakfast on the floor.. or something equally petty but my anger is strong.
[–]SayNadFDS Apprentice17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I think showing signs of anger will just do the opposite - cheaters do shit ton of mental gymnastics to absolve themselves from any type of blame, and usually when the women lash out in anger over their cheating - they mentally take that as a justification that "she is crazy and I am innocent".
But have you ever been in front of teachers or parents of boss or anything when you are in trouble - you expect them to get mad and lash out - instead they calmly look at you and speak in a soft tone, but there's clear disappointment in their eyes? Not even sadness, just cold and firm disappointment. That hits way too deep and it gets your blood cold.
I do believe maintaining your poise and just calmly up and leave will induce the same effect. There's just something so deeply hurtful when you realize someone is simply disappointed in you.
[–]palmettojlaFDS Newbie7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh yeah. She has class. I wasn't suggesting my petty anger would of done anything to make him regret or be upset.
[–]spiceylifeyFDS Newbie8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
That’s what I really liked about her story though. I feel like “getting revenge” by keying their car or trashing their apartment, or even doing something little like throwing their breakfast on the floor gives them some sort of justification in their head. Cheating is never acceptable, but to them they’ll justify it because their ex was crazy, even if it’s one little act of revenge at the end. If someone cheats on me I don’t want to give them any way to justify it.
[–]palmettojlaFDS Newbie4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You're right. I respect her for her strength and class cause I just don't have it.
[–]jackrusselterror1FDS Disciple2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Then men make up a story- guarantee when this guy tells this story, he says he was ghosted and dropped without a word, he never knew that there were problems, that he was so worried about her because he couldn’t find her and no one knew anything. Men like this have no conscience or respect for the truth. Cheaters are never going to admit where they were at fault. She’s the villain to him because she isn’t him, it really doesn’t matter what she does or doesn’t do, he’s going to rewrite her into that role in his head regardless.
The only way to win here is to not care about what he says or thinks- if he’s in your mind, you’re losing.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the story and think she conducted herself well.

[–]RedRetrogradeFDS Newbie84 points85 points86 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Leaving him a free game (that was probably like $60, might I add) after she caught him cheating is taking the high road? In that case, fuck the high road. I’m going low. ☠️
[–]StrainingMyNeuronsFDS Newbie58 points59 points60 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
What’s 60 bucks in comparison with showing the dude clearly and unambiguously: “I was here, I saw what you did, now face the consequences of your actions”!
[–]RedRetrogradeFDS Newbie58 points59 points60 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
He’s facing the consequences of his actions by getting a brand new, expensive video game from her? Lmao. Nah, chief.
Also, there’s no guarantee that he viewed her leaving the game in that way. As far as we know, he ate the breakfast with the girl he was cheating with and then proceeded to pop the game into the PS4/Xbox/etc and play it with her.
[–]Half_HaltFDS Newbie6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You don't think the girl wondered htf this breakfast just dropped out of the sky while they were asleep, though?
[–]StrainingMyNeuronsFDS Newbie8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don’t know, I’d like to think that he felt some degree of shame, even if he was wanting to break it off.
[–]kht777FDS Newbie0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Thank you! Exactly my thoughts, he probably woke up, ate breakfast with her and enjoyed playing the game without a second thought.
I'm sure that he only thought of the other girlfriend days or weeks later and wondered what happened.
[–]flowerdough0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It could’ve been a game she borrowed and was returning. Alt, it could have been something she bought him but they were reciprocal (or he was more gift-y) money wise. Leaving the game shows her good intentions as well as again conveys she no longer gives two shits. Not even enough to be petty, she’s just moved on and ghosted after she dropped off the items as she would have on a normal morning.
[–]Qi_raFDS Newbie40 points41 points42 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Video games are $60, I would have returned it. He prob played it later with his ex. Fuck that
[–]kht777FDS Newbie88 points89 points90 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
My thoughts exactly, he was probably like, oh sweet a free new game and I don't have to deal with the drama of the whole cheating break up fight. Everything else was flawless on her part though.
[–]randomgirlimokFDS Apprentice3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I think her thought was that he would feel guilty that she came over with a gift so that’s why she left it. But these guys don’t know what remorse is so the gift was wasted.

[–]need-some-sunFDS Newbie4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
same. I get people wanting the $60 back, totally makes sense, but I just know if it was me I’d be too fucked off to take it back. Between leaving it there or throwing it out, either way it’s with the TRRAAASSHH
[–]flowerdough1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Leaving the video game conveys she was fine financially regardless without him and it’s not a bother. You have the high decency to be generous even when he’s absolute trash. And it’s the truth- she entered there with gifts and breakfast. That’s really sweet relationship behavior.
On the flip side, one of my exes had given really sweet, expensive gifts the Valentines before we broke up. I asked him if he wanted any of them back since we broke up quite quickly after that. He said no they are mine as originally gifted and asked me what I planned to do with them. I told him I was going to throw them all out. They just weren’t something I need at all, doesn’t matter what they are, I don’t want them.
[–]QueenLatifaLaBiggestFDS Newbie74 points75 points76 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I think by leaving the game she retains her humanity and integrity. When she left him she didn't have to lower her kindness. We don't have to be as vindictive as others to assert ourselves. We don't have to leave behind our core values when we level up, we need to apply those core values to ourselves.
[–]willowgrowingrootsFDS Disciple16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Perfectly articulated
[–]rinabeanFDS Disciple8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
There's nothing vindictive or unkind about not giving men your money
If your core values don't include self respect they probably don't include genuine respect for others, either. If you reward people for hurting you, it's hard to believe you won't reward people for hurting others, too. It isn't kind. It's weak. They aren't the same
[–]QueenLatifaLaBiggestFDS Newbie7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I can see your view but she left a 5 year relationship by ghosting. imagine the strength that it took. There is no weakness there.

Yes. The first time he fucks up THIS IS WHAT YOU DO. No forgiveness. No tolerance. No “communicate” and “make it work”. Walk out the door. Stop overvaluing men who disrespect you. Get another one or be single.

I've been saying for ages (and trying to apply to myself too): if someone disrespects you dont send those long texts, don't call them, don't try to have closure or expect them to realize they did wrong (they know) and change. Just leave. Block and delete when possible. It's not about them or having the last word, it's about you and your healing.

I did something similar with my ex. He wasn't unfaithful, but he was lazy and selfish. He barely worked, and when he did he spent it all on himself (including flying back to his home country to party with his friends). Then one day he decided that he was going to move back home, and actually asked me to figure out a new plan because "I want to be with you!"
That may have been true, but I realized at that moment that if I stayed in this relationship, I was going to be perpetually chasing a guy who lived only for himself, who had zero problems with pulling the rug out from under whatever plans we made whenever it suited him. Whenever I'd explain that his actions never matched his words, I got called selfish.
Honestly, sometimes ghosting is the only healthy thing to do for yourself. He's gonna beg and blame and deflect and cry and it's so easy to just get sucked back in and give it another go. I was so sick of his shit that I felt that was the only way I'd get through to him about how angry I was.

What for? LVM don't really give a shit about the women they hurt.
100% He would written some long-ass diatribe about how HE feels bad, and HIS feelings are hurt, and HE has to deal with the consequences, and how BOTH were toxic for one another...
