Long distance friend of mine wore a sweater reading "Meninism" to school. He sent me this screen cap of some girl on Twitter at his school.

Military spouses can be the best people in the world, or in this case...the worst people imaginable...

Used to be on active duty myself, and it really is sad how some of the women treat their husbands who are enlisted. Real sad.

[–]Minkatte 149 points150 points151 points 11 years ago (47 children) | Copy Link

I'm so afraid of this. I've been married to an active duty soldier for about 3 months now. Hearing all of these horror stories from both sexes is really disheartening. I think we are different, but so did everybody else I'm sure.

[–]Medrex 115 points116 points117 points 11 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Military marriages are like putting your relationship into a pressure cooker. You'll deal with far more stress than the average civilian couple in a shorter amount of time. But the up swing of this is that you'll find out faster if your marriage will survive in the long term.

[–]RedditorJemi 58 points59 points60 points 11 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

I could be wrong, but I feel like that's not always the case. I know women to be really good at doing bad things and pretending they're good things, like trying to make a marriage she knows to be doomed last as long as possible, and pretending like she's doing her husband a favor by doing so, when in reality, she's making it far worse for him. I feel like a military relationship may make this scenario less common, while still not being uncommon. Women also hide their feelings extremely well, and while breaking off a 15 year old marriage, may well cite an issue that crept up a decade earlier. Am I correct here? Do you think this is this still a big danger, even for military marriages?

I left the Army after 7 years to be with my wife. 3 days before I flew out, she emailed me that she wanted a divorce.

Yes, some women can control their emotions well enough to take a paycheck from someone they don't like any more.

Ah, I was such a fool to trust anyone.

[–]RedditorJemi 25 points26 points27 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

:(. You weren't a fool for trusting anyone. We've all been fooled by a feminized society that holds certain truths to be taboo. We can openly break that taboo by telling men the things we wish we had learned when we were making the same mistakes they were. Once a critical mass of wizened men has been reached, society itself will take the red pill. That day may be a long way off, but when it arrives, every single barrier to real progress will have been lifted.

[–]ziekktx 19 points20 points21 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for the kind words.

Now I'm remarried and have twin girls and a third on the way. If I had to relive my life knowing all I do now, I'd still make the same decisions and heartbreak so I could be here, now, with my girls.

[–]SigmundFloyd76 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's beautiful man. I'm not in the Army and I still got royally fucked by my ex. If that was the suffering you had to endure to get to where you are now, at least you've tasted "bottom" so you have a good idea what "up" really means.

One day, I'm going to say exactly the same thing.

I don't mean this to be insulting, but you were a fool to base your life decisions around another person. You only live once, you should never make a major sacrifice such as a career for another unless you produced them and are responsible for them, I.E. your children. It's well known women do shit like have affairs with married men, beg the guys to leave their wives, then when they actually do leave dump the guys because they realize they don't want to be washing socks and cooking dinners, /r/relationships is full of it. This is why you always need to act in your own best interest even if you are in a loving happy relationship, women will respect you EVEN MORE if you just do whatever you think is best for you, and they'll think (even subconsciously) you're a loser if you pander to them, that's not prime male behavior.

[–]ziekktx 20 points21 points22 points 11 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

I was leaning far towards leaving anyway, and having a family of my own easily pushed me over that decision. Her kids called me dad (on their own) and I loved them.

Don't call me a fool until you know why I made my decisions. I was on the precipice of going into a career long change, with something I stopped believing in or leaving for family. I'd spent 6 of my seven years overseas, and was pretty sick of the kool-aid already.

Edit: I really don't think you should be on redpill and mensrights. Go back to your hate filled hole.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

He came off really roughly, but I'll try to interpret what I think he meant, without the insults.

Your life is yours, brother.

You've been brainwashed to believe in the "Happy ever after" story, that women are sweet caring creatures, and that honesty, trust, loyalty and love will be met with the same.

Unfortunately, life isn't that way. Your time in the services and your ex wife made that very clear for you.

What our blunt, slightly rude friend was insinuating, is that...

You must live life for you. Your goals must always be -for you-. Women, family, sadly comes and goes. Give your own children your all, but always always guard your own personal future. Don't make choices to please others.

Your own personal future, you alone, must be your highest concern. The only true loyalty and love you'll find in life will be from a dog, and occasionally the friends who reach the level of brother.

I wish you nothing but the best. Sorry for your pain, thank you for your service.

[–]ziekktx 12 points13 points14 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Once again, I'm not a 13 year old lovesick puppy. Don't insert your agenda of info my life. I know what happened, and I know why I left. Great chances are, I would have left the military then anyway. So stop patronizing me and others who have been screwed over during their service. You are no better than any single one, and life makes fools of all who plan.

I've not been brainwashed by anything. Instead I pity that you cannot feel for anyone who isn't yourself or your blood, and I wouldn't be shocked to find if you could talk your way out of loving your own child if you thought they'd been turned against you.

I'm not replying on this any more. I won't even be reading any more replies, because I don't need to be told how I think and feel by someone who is psychologically scarred. I pity you.

He wasn't being hateful, but it seems he struck a nerve. Its not okay to be that sensitive about your past mistakes. You said you would have done the same and you have learned from them, I hope.

[–]Medrex 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'll preface this by saying it never good to generalize too much, especially when it comes to complicated things like relationships. If you are with someone, man or women, who is willing to hide their feelings or work to manipulate you, then regardless of wether or not you're military makes no difference. The relationship will fail.

Apologies for following text wall explanation.

While I was a military spouse (ex-wife was Air Force for 4 years) I saw all kinds of examples of bad marriages. The standing trope was when the husbands where off on deployment the wives would "get new cars" in their driveways. Sadly, I saw this kind of thing far more often than not. That does not excuse the men though. I worked the req centers on bases (bowling alleys and the like) and would see men I knew to be married hitting on anything they could.

I would point out that most people in the military are very young. Far too young to even be fully developed into adults (it happens around 24 years physically) It is also a very stressful job, more than most civilians realize even without combat. So any kind of relief or minor privileges are coveted.

I say this to give understanding. If you are married in the military you get extra privileges. You get BAH (extra money) to pay for your spouse & children's housing. You get to live off base sooner.

So many of the kids who get married do it without making sure the relationship is solid. All of the incentives are there. But a lot don't have the tools or experience to know how make a relationship work. Plus all of the added stress of the job. Add to that the gold diggers or guys who just want a trophy wife. All of the years I was in the lifestyle, I know of only 3 couples that made it in the long run. But they where the kind of people that would have made it regardless of being in the military or not. They knew how to do relationships.

Hence my pressure cooker metaphor. The military will only speed up the process of the relationship. It will be more work and it will not be easy. But, if you and your partner are willing to work at it, then it will be ok.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

From my experience it went like this -

Men would flirt. Women would cheat.

[–]speedisavirus 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In my experience it was mostly the women. Wives and those in the military. For instance there was essentially a brothel tent while I was in the middle east where military women were fucking for cash. I knew several to be married, engaged, or seeing someone. Then there were the wives who actually had the balls to try and get me to fuck them even though I worked with their husbands or wanted to cheat on them directly in front of me and expect me to say nothing.

Far more of the men I knew were faithful than the women.

How do you know when someone is married to a soldier? She'll tell sleep with you.

[–]Minkatte 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Damn right. He's doing exactly what he wants to with his life and I'm proud as hell of him.

[–]Mylon 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Or he's in it for the good pay and benefits because other prospects look pretty bleak.

[–]Minkatte 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or he's wanted to be a soldier since he could walk and is actually following through. But whatever. You're the one who's spent 4 year with him. Oh wait..

[–]intensely_human 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Are you afraid of adopting bad behavior? Being pressured into it by other spouses or something? Not sure what you mean.

[permanently deleted]

[–]Minkatte 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly this, thank you.

[–]Minkatte 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yes and no. I'm just afraid that it will change us. I've heard so many stories of soldiers coming home and not being the same. And soldiers coming home to spouses who have changed. I think im too strong to adopt any sort of hurtful behavior, but worse has happened to stronger people im sure.

I haven't met a single other person since he was stationed here so I don't have to worry about peer pressure. I'm sure there's a lot of good people, but I know there will be a lot of bad I don't want to hear about.

[–]wifemakesmewearplaid 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

having been on both sides of this.. having one near marriage fail completely.. and one successful one.. i have to say:

enjoy it.
enjoy every little bit you can. everything is temporary anyways. dont waste your time worrying about what MAY happen. never forget why you got married and always always always communicate. dealing with things on your own whether you can or not is a good way to begin a divide that doesnt need to exist. ive been deploying for just over ten years and sharing fears and feelings has been the #1 reason my wife and i have survived intact.

[–]Minkatte 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Thank you. I do enjoy it and can't even imagine a point in time when I wont, but my parents told me marriage will have a lot of ups and downs and, just like you said, never forget why we got married.

Thank you for your words of wisdom, it will be taken to heart.

[–]wifemakesmewearplaid 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the ups and downs are exactly what i mean by everything is temporary. the bad times will pass but the good times wont be there forever either so dont take anything for granted.

your heart is in the right place :)

[–]WolfShaman 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know others here have said this, but it can't be expressed enough: communicate. That is one of the biggest things to keeping a marriage together.

Also keep in mind, that military service isn't the only thing that changes people. Time/age/experience do that too. The trick is to grow and learn together. The fact that you're very aware of some of the things that happen is a good sign that it will be easier for you to avoid going that route. Having a good support structure (family, friends, etc) will help a lot as well.

One last thing, please understand that he will be going through a lot of stress simply because the military is not a very efficient machine. There will be a lot of stupid things you will both have to go through because of it. If you remember it's not his fault, it may help. Best of luck to both of you.

[–]intensely_human 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm afraid it will change you too. I wish you all the luck in the world, in navigating the time ahead.

[–]peefaced1 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It could be he hears about the bad wives and being away for so long starts getting doubts in his minds, even with a 100 percent innocent wife it can have bad effects.

[–]wifemakesmewearplaid 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

transparency and good communication can prevent quite a bit.

[–]kehlder 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Just keep in mind that if it ends, end it amicably. Don't fuck each other over. Nothing worse than mutual hatred.

[–]Minkatte 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't see an end anywhere in sight, but if worst comes to worst, I'm not much for hurting feelings just cause.

[–]Pm_me_some_dessert 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Honestly I think part of the key to surviving is choosing your friends wisely. Avoid the stereotypical woman with a herd of kids stuck in four or five MLM "jobs" that she's doing to fill time (don't worry, I'm sure it will come up within 5 minutes). Keep your own life as much as possible, regardless of what base you move to - whether you find a job that is solely online so you can work from home wherever you go, you maintain hobbies like running or quilting that have great communities surrounding them (I pick those two as examples just because I have seen how great they can both be) or whatever it is. Basically...BE something other than JUST an army wife.

[–]Minkatte 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Great advice. Never thought having no friends would put me at such peace. It's kind of cool to go to a new place and not have to talk to anyone, because I honestly always found human interaction to be a chore.

Something about the whole army wife thing just makes me angry to the point where I legitimately cringe when I have to refer to myself as one. It's not a life I ever thought I would adopt, and I really can't put into words why i hate it. I guess judging from these comments most people assume that if you're an army wife, you will cheat. Thankfully the thought of anyone else physically makes me sick, and my husband was the one who discovered his mother's infidelity when he was young and it caused a lot of issues for him so I think he is the last person to ever cheat.

And you're exactly right about the job part and not being ONLY an army wife. We only have 1 car which he needs for work every day, so ive started an etsy business and I'm doing really well! I think I can honestly say I actually enjoy "working." I have hobbies like henna and makeup artistry which are great because I can improve at home and actually make a living doing it.

I get myself so worked up reading this crap sometimes that I forget that we are ruthlessly and recklessly happy. Thank you for the words of wisdom, I deeply appreciate all of the kindness and wisdom I have recieved here.

[–]Pm_me_some_dessert 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're totally welcome. I was briefly in the Air Force and at my training base there were two kinds of couples who got married - ones who were truly happy and were really just head-over-heels for each other (which it sounds like you are!) and others who got together just to be able to stay together (because they were destined for separate bases after training) or just to be able to move off-base, and those are obviously not great reasons at all.

[–]J-Unleashed 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My recommendation: get a hobby with him. Go to marriage counseling every so often. You want to be the best person in the world for him, I think your key is communication. I also have observed that the more successful marriages were the result of the SO that was not in, had an awesome career about which they were passionate.

Communicate is the best advice. Be involved.

[–]Minkatte 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This has worked really well for us! The hobby part I mean. We've started playing video games together and watching horror game walk throughs because we are too weenie to actually play them. We've talked about counseling and he's open to it so I think it would be a good idea. Not that we've had issues, but as a preventative.

And that's good to hear! I started my own etsy business and am doing well and in love with what I do so it looks like we are to a good start! Thank you for the words of advice

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nearly half of marriages fail eventually. Military relationships can be so brutal because you take a couple and then you throw them to the wolves. The stresses of life that many relationships outside of the military fail to overcome, are put into a neat package and given to you as a wedding present to be opened immediately, before the ink on the marriage certificate is dry. Most military couples are young, inexperienced and emotionally immature. Often times each person still hasn't figured out who they are yet, and are riding only on infatuation instead of a mutual deep commitment, respect and love for each other and themselves. One person may deploy without the other for months at a time. The deployed will be doing jobs that are dangerous, exhausting, tedious and often boring. They'll be surrounded by similar people and minds. The other SO will be home, bored and often lonely. Without a good background of being independent, they can often feel neglected and 'left behind.'

Couples who are newly wed and able to live together between deployments often deal with the growing pains of any relationship, but with the added stress that generally comes with one person nearly entirely relying on the other as they've likely moved across the country to be together. They don't have friends or family to allow them to stay grounded or give them personal time. So when their other half deploys, they're left lost and vulnerable.

Not every relationship is going to make it, yours is only unique and special until you're just another statistic. (I know that sounds harsh but it's an important thing to realize.)

Military life these days is easier than it used to be. It used to be a letter every week or few weeks, sometimes months. Now there's everything from facetime, emails and text messages, even while at sea or deployed to combat areas. That is both a wonderful thing, and can create problems of its own.

To make a military relationship work, both of you have to be on the same level of commitment. You're going to have fights, emotions will fluctuate and you're both going to have your personal ups and downs. At the end of every day though, even in the middle of a fight, you both should be committed to each other and ensuring the future of the relationship. Whatever you do, don't think kids will 'fix' things if things turn south. A relationship is teamwork, either you're both in it, or it's done. (That doesn't mean a bad week, that means long term goals and the future. We all have ups and downs.) You're both going to need to be independent while also supportive. (Codependencyis very unhealthy for relationships, especially military ones.) Remember that while you're married to each other, you're also married to the military.

Both of you need to be aware and wary of the many lonely spouses/SO's of other military members. It's easy to do stupid things when you're lonely/drunk and many marriages fail because of it. I've known many people who were unfaithful and even though the other never found out, eventually, a vast majority of those relationships fail. Be respectful of yourself and your SO, and realize that it will take more work, be more stressful and require more independence being married in the military.

With all that being said, many of the strongest, highest quality relationships I've seen came from military couples. It is a harsh test that many fail, but the ones that come through together usually come out stronger and better able to handle whatever else life throws at them.

[–]Aarondhp24 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most spouses are not prepared to be alone for a year or more. It's not hard not to cheat, really. People simply lack the fortitude to be alone for long, and this is why I caution most younger guys to wait for marriage until after their first deployment.

That BAH is enticing though....

[–]Oreo_ -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't let other people's failure get you down. If you are afraid already than good fucking luck. Be secure in yourselves and your marriage and you'll do just fine. Don't let other people get in your head annoy how he's probably cheating while deployed just like you wouldnt be OK with his friends telling him your fucking jodie back home. I knew a girl who wanted to marry a man in the military for some fucked up reasons, it made me hate her as a person.

She wanted to be considered patriotic and feel superior to everyone else, so she started dating military guys. So she ends up meeting my friend and they hit things off and they start dating. He thinks she's this really great girl and they get engaged. A few months before the wedding, he got told he had to go to japan and he wanted to postpone the wedding until after he got back. She flipped out, but agreed.

While he was gone, she cheated on him with a few guys and ended up fucking the wrong guy. He finds out she has a fiance, and not only that but he's an active duty marine. So he asks her why she cheated on him and she told him that she didn't love him. He asked why and she tells him that her family is a big military family, and she needed to be a part of that but didn't want to join herself. She planned to marry him, keep him in the military until her retired and just fuck around when he was away. One of the "perks" of being a military wife apparently.

So he tells my friend and shows them the convo, he ends things with her, and now he's still active but a lot more cautious about who he dates.

Former USMC here, it was always sad seeing SNCOs stay late at work just so they didn't have to go home to their terrible spouses. But also sad because they'd make us stay with them so they wouldn't be alone, of course it would be disguised as a "working party" or something or other, but we all knew.

Edit: I can't find the scene I'm looking for, but here's a good one which illustrates the point I'm trying to make, which is it does happen to military more often: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU-Qp-5TsB4

[–]powerfulsquid 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Wait..so which is it? Great prospects and a wonderful future or shitty prospects and a terrible future? I'm confused. I always hear about how we need to help and honor vets because they "protect our freedom" but get shit in return from the government but it sounds like, according to you, it's pretty sweet gig so it shouldn't require any additional discounts or recognition...

[–]KetchupKakes 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

As a veteran, I personally don't agree with the circle jerk that is honoring military. Yes, we should take care of our military and respect what they do, but we veterans (in my own experience and belief) do not deserve, or want, to be constantly placed upon a pedestal. Several of us served without seeing any action and while it may have been difficult at times, I don't deserve your first class ticket for working 14 hour shifts on the flightline. So if you want to honor the military, do it because you want to, not because everyone else does.

It may seem like a sweet gig now, but the military can make anything suck. Most of the discounts and whatnot are offered by veterans themselves or somehow related to the military and we look out for our own. Most of the discounts or whatever aren't all that great anyway. "Free entrée at Applebee's on veterans day?! Sign me up!" Said nobody ever.

[–]powerfulsquid 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for the honest response, appreciate it.

[–]speedisavirus 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Honest enough and I mostly agree but I worked flight line and have been shot at.

Last year I went to california pizza kitchen. Was better than Applebee's and no wait.

[–]taws34 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with everything you said. I'm also a vet.

But then, that Applebee's comment... Next veterans day, head to am Applebee's near a military post. You'll see more vets, dependents, and serving military upset at the wait for the free crappy meal.

[–]Pm_me_some_dessert 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Honestly it depends on your time in the service. You enlist at 18, do something dumb like not sign up for the GI Bill and you signed as army infantry? Good luck to you, that ain't getting you far. You enlist at 19 after junior college doesn't work out but you've got some credits so you get a rank bump earlier, you sign up for hte GI bill and go into a job with a security clearance like linguist so you learn a language for free too? Yes, you're going to have much better prospects.

TL;DR? YMMV, as with anything else.

[–]wahtisthisidonteven 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Discounts are something businesses do in order to drum up more business from a specific demographic. If you think military discounts are about thanking service members then you've been completely taken in by marketing.

[–]powerfulsquid 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol trust me, I know that..I'm a business owner myself. The reason it's a marketing gimmick that works, though, is because of the special treatment and "pedestal placement" by most civilians and the media and if you don't join the circle jerk then you are un-American. I guess I should have said special treatment in lieu of discounts.

[–]prodiver 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

so which is it?

It's either one, depending on the person.

If you're intelligent and do well you'll learn high paying skills, if you're an idiot you'll go into the infantry and learn nothing useful.

[+][deleted] 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]prodiver 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's true, but people that aren't so smart don't get as many choices, so a higher number of them end up in infantry.

[–]Frostatine -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I think those discounts and benefits should and usually do apply to active duty rather than vets. It is a sweet deal for the right job, but there are military jobs that don't transition into anything outside the military. Especially for medics who as civilians have no way to come anywhere close to what they used to do without at least being a RN.

As with anything YMMV but stereotyping the entire military as dumb grunts is just for edgelords.

[–]speedisavirus 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When its worth it I just pull out my dd214 and usually have no problem. I keep one folded up in my wallet. Not sure why other than the last time I wanted to get one of those veterans day meals.

[–]powerfulsquid 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As with anything YMMV but stereotyping the entire military as dumb grunts is just for edgelords.

I agree 100% and sorry if I came off as doing that but I don't believe that at all. Hell, I have family and friends who have enlisted and they certainly are not "dumb grunts", as you put it. I suppose I'm referring more to the conflicting reports on post-military life that I hear about as well as various special and "pedestal" treatments for essentially doing a job you signed up for, get paid decently for (keeping in mind certain expenses civilians have to pay for are covered or non-existent while active), and get some pretty good benefits for (comparatively speaking).

[–]Frostatine 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Think of it like college students. Some graduate debt free and have good jobs lined up. Others get the opposite result. But the dominant stereotype will swallow up both. So with military people even though not all of them are heroes people see you as a part of that stereotype.

The store discounts are entirely separate and voluntary by the businesses that have them. And they exist half for the good PR and half because military members are very consistent customers with disposable income.

But the image of a serviceman or woman is easier to compress into a hero or part of a heroic effort than it is to think about all the military jobs that are just regular jobs in camo and have never deployed or done anything exemplary. So we get the benefit of the doubt and just get lumped in. So a lot of it is hollow appreciation from strangers stroking their freedom boners and not even viewing you as an individual person but rather an idol to give offerings because they want the blessing of the great big uncle Sam in the sky.

But maybe I'm cynical.

In college, a friend of mine was banging a chick and one night he was all bummed. I asked why and he said he found out she was married to a soldier in Afghanistan. I told him he had to end it or be seen as an utter cocksucker.

So he confronts girl and she says yea, she's married to a soldier. But she's cheated on him and will continue to do so. My friend asked if they had an open thing going on. She replied no, husband didn't know. But she was planning on divorcing him anyway. I wish I could tell you my friend stopped fucking her. His logic was that she was a skank.

The way I see it, even if a guy is fucking my woman, as long as he's the one to tell me that she's a cheater, he's gaining respect in my eyes. Something very similar happened to me about 8 years ago. Reconnected with a girl I knew from high school at a party, and we ended up dating for a couple months. Found out she was married to a guy serving in Afghanistan. I confronted her and she lied claiming it was a "marriage of convenience" so she could handle his finances, while she collected the additional pay for spousal benefits. She even went as far to say "I'm almost positive he's gay anyway" to try to convince me to stay. What she didn't know was she left her email up and I saw one from him "I love you so much baby, I can't wait to get back to your arms..." etc etc.

Some people are truly pathetic human beings.

[–]soretits 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You'd have to be an utter asshat to get married. All it takes from the cunt is "I'm not happy anymore" and you get fucked up the ass raw with a cactus.

Some of you guys may feel like you're going to be lonely in the future or feel that way right now. Would you rather be lonely with all of the money you worked hard for? Or would you rather be lonely and broke after you get divorce raped while she's fucking the neighbor in the house that you bought? Marriage is about the redistribution of wealth. Men do not benefit from marriage at all. You are seen as a worthless shit whose only reason for existing is to serve women. People change, she may seem kind/caring now but who knows how she will be in the future. Women do not know what they want, and they're ruled by emotions. They act like children and should be treated as such.

Avoid marriage at all costs. Statistics don't lie and it's only getting worse.

Man, seriously fuck that bitch. As a veteran myself I've never seen as many men married to cuntwaffles in my life. So many would cheat repeatedly. Empty accounts while their husbands were deployed. My advice to future military members...don't bother marrying unless you are going to do 20+ years.

[–]AgentOrangeMRA 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If the military wanted you to have a spouse, they'd have issued you one.

[–]MAG-TAF 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

and this is how red pillers are made

[–]PeteMullersKeyboard 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

On one hand, I'm disgusted and hope these disgusting people get every bit of what's coming to them...on the other hand...I'm not surprised.

Yes, he drinks a lot, because you're a huge cunt. Fuck him, take all his shit, because PTSD and giving his life to the shit war we're fighting isn't enough. Holy fuck. I need to go vomit.

I love the dependapotomuses. They are my favorite ones.

[–]NoMomItsDubstep 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Believe you me, 90% of military spouses, wives and husbands, are garbage people we would be better off without.

[–]mad3th1s4th1s 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Abhorrent. Absolutely abhorrent.

[–]themochabear 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People like this are the reason why I am hesitant to get married. I know it's not a constant and not all people are like this, but it is that fear of the unknown that would harbor me from being truly happy with someone when there is am additional (legal) connection.

[–]AliasSigma 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hungry hungry dependapotamus.

[–]IoSonCalaf 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's called divorce rape. When women divorce their husbands they get to walk away with cash and prizes

[–]justinerwin 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Please do not feed the Dependapotamus

[–]werdd 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Only has himself to blame. Stupid men gonna keep getting married and or having kids.

[–]a_posh_trophy 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Catabisis 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, mine thought she was going to get everything. She got the house and nothing else. No alimony, no 401k, no pension. Nothing. God damn if she had a gun in court she would have killed me. I walked out and smiled at her.

[–]VOTOK88 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Holy shit, woman like this realy make me sick.. how this is work in her mind.. she treat her husband like a garbage..

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hoping this is someone trolling. Otherwise, fuck me. What a waste of oxygen.

[–]Retaliation 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sad to say there are plenty of wives who are married to a service member who do this shit.

[–]Snowfire870 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This seems so unlike /r/military this is something that we would call a dependopotamus and would normally be put down for it. Any way to link the post if not against the rules?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And yet there are still people who wonder why prenups are a thing.

[–]EvrythingISayIsRight 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The part that really gets me is:

Take half that shitbags stuff. He sounds like a real cock sucker.

So, we got this woman who made a one sided comment about her husband and other people (likely men) blindly support her and take her side.

Even though I don't even know this guy or what happened, I'll believe what you say at face value, hes a shitbag, and he deserves it.

This is female privledge. If there ever is a him vs her situation, everyone is more inclined to take the girls side by default.

[–]swissarmypants 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I'ma stop you right there.

It's not a military SO. It's a dude, who's in, using troll flair.

OP CONFIRMED FOR ASVAB WAIVER

[–]wahtisthisidonteven -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is what happens when you witch hunt other subs for stuff to circlejerk about, SRS style.

For the /r/military regulars, it was pretty obvious he's just a fellow regular making shit up, since he's a dude in the military and not a dependent.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"witch hunt other subs"

This wasn't even linked to the discussion, this was screen capped. If you wanted to find the post you'd have to look for it in /r/military yourself. There was, or rather is, no "witch hunting".

[+]1800BOTLANE -8 points-7 points-6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm glad all these dudes in here are wrapped in the facade that women are so horrible, that they need to point out every little thing on the internet. That's what happens when you don't lurk a sub long enough to notice someone's kidding, or even look at their post history.

[–]Curious_Swede 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think you missed the point where this sub isn't about hating women. I would say that most of us love women but hate the things they do to men. What other men do to men for that matter too.

But go ahead and have your distorted world view if it makes you feel better.

[+]swissarmypants -6 points-5 points-4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean, shit… I thought /r/military was irrationally anti-woman. This place is next level.

[–]kingofspain131 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can you share the source please?

[–]Palpetinus 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wait, "take half that shitbag's stuff", " get fucked in court". Women actually are fully aware they can just divorce rape anyone? I thought it's usually how it just unfolds, not that women aim to be the biggest fucks on this planet!

[–]skinnyguy699 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is a troll and you gave them the attention they wanted.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The problem with military divorces isn't the women, it's the system that gives them an extreme amount of support without a court order.

Because the military does this, when you go to court the court uses the support that the military orders you to give her as a source for the amount of money you should give her, instead of doing the work itself.

It's illegal, but the military doesn't care.

[–]FanofWhiskey 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Been there! At least I had a 3some on my way to the single life. I got screwed by her and the county at the same time!

10yrs of marriage and they get half of your retirement. No questions asked. Federally enforced. I'm living it! 50% regardless of the circumstance.

[–]lilyponss 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm an army wife and these bitches are everywhere. The men in my husband's unit let their wives shit all over them. It's all about what the wives want all the time, and then they spend all their husband's money, it's completely ridiculous. I have an impossible time finding army wife friends because these women and I have opposite values. Like when my husband is home, I wanna be home with him. I want to make him dinner and get him ready for work, and go to sleep with him. I don't wanna go to the club, thanks.

[–]PNW-Gal 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How women can act like that I'll never understand. I could never pretend to be in love with someone for a paycheck, nor would I ever try and take my husband (if I ever do get married) for everything he has in a divorce.

My dad had a friend in the Navy, his wife for ever (at the time longer than my life) were happy, then he got out of the Navy, she got a friend that shit talked him. She fucking left him and took the kids. Guy had no idea than on a Saturday morning my dad got a call with him venting. (After my parents got split up(mine had no foul play though :/ )) Sadist shit to happen to me that whole year.

My wife, has been the only thing that kept me going since I got back from Afghanistan. I said stupid things to her and I'm tired of having to say sorry.

[–]Burkzerk -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I went through a divorce when I was in the military (Navy). This is an absolute true story: My ex-wife and her family called the White House on me. They spoke to some lady at the White House and eventually my Command Master Chief received an e-mail saying if he could "help" me move her things out to her. I didn't have to do it but I didn't want to get on the commands bad side either.

[–]JeffersonsHat -5 points-4 points-3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This post doesn't is a lot more about marital issues and drugs than the military.

[–]scanspeak 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But the state supports and encourages female jerks while punishing male ones.

Saying things like that doesn't help make men's rights activists separate themselves from extremists. Think before you post.

Any of you jumping on either side are just naive. You don't know the circumstances. The hivemind in subreddits like these really shows.

See? No replies, just downvotes.

Nothing she's doing is justified. the other side doesn't matter.

[–]ICA_Agent47 -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nothing either of them is doing is justified, it's stupid, just like this subreddit. And that's coming from a man that is for Men's rights
