This is interesting and funny to me, partly because of an argument I had with some of reddit's fems on whether letting redditors know one is female causes one to be subjected to dismissive behavior and other forms of "sexual harassment" from male redditors, following a comment left by a redditor attributing revelation of one's sex as cause and sexual harassment as effect. My experience does not support their accusations at all. I said so. After the other commenter was unable to demonstrate the alleged cause and effect to me, she and several others responded by PMing me with accusations of being a guy and a liar, and then downvoting my end of the discussion, as if that had any effect or relevance.

Regular commenters from the same subreddit that couldn't figure out you are male falsely assumed I am. The big difference between our comments is that you couched your criticisms in an envelope of homage, while I was bluntly critical. Apparently, the fact that I can be blunt when I see someone's assertion as pure bullshit left the other commenter feeling justified in labeling me a guy, despite a lack of any other evidence. In addition to feeling entitled to determine my sex, the commenter and her friends also seemed to feel entitled to dictate my experiences, opinion, and speech on the matter through verbal abuse and downvotes, rather than even grudgingly admit that the original statement was overly generalized, and that not all (or even a majority of) men act that way.

So, after learning that they do not tolerate blunt disagreement, I see from your posts that at least some of them are in a way guilty of the very thing they accused - treating another redditor differently on the basis of sex - albeit via different behaviors. While accusing men of open dismissal and marginalization, at least some feminist redditors do the same thing using the more underhanded method of uniformly downvoting the comments of one sex.

Kinda cowardly behavior on their part, if you ask me. :P

I appreciate what you were trying to do, but your results were anecdotal at best. The factors that are involved in whether a comment gets upvoted/downvoted and noticed/ignored are very broad, and thus the distribution of scores for posts that essentially say the same thing would be broad too.

You need some controls built into your study.

For example, you should gather a series of user names and categorize them as male, female, and neutral. Then write a series of posts that are either pro, anti, or neutral towards feminism. Then you need to randomly assort the comments and usernames blindly and post the comments in a user-independent random fashion so that biases like "how many upvotes/comments does the article have", "how old is the article", and "what is the topic of the article" do not bias your results.

Then you need to plot your statistics.

Too much work? You bet...

This is interesting, but there is not really enough data to draw a meaningful conclusion.

We could answer this question once and for all with a few volunteers and a browser extension that could switch randomly (but be consistent inside conversations )between 3 accounts, 2 gendered and one neutral.

Of course this extension would have to be called gender blender.

While it's interesting to get proof, we all knew this already. (except perhaps for 2X users themselves)

They are biased against anything that contradicts the hivemind (as are most subreddits), and also biased against men as well to a greater or lesser extent depending on context.

If you disagree with many post there you will quickly be labeled as an MRA or a male (once they check your comment history). The issue of your sex will be brought up from time to time if you don't agree enough. It's kind of funny actually.

Why don't you use your "female name account" to post in other subreddits. Post against the prevailing opinion in that subreddit and see if your supposed gender comes up when people argue with you. That'd be more interesting.

There's kind of a feeling growing that maybe mensrights shouldn't invade the woman's subreddits quite so much. Just a heads up, people are starting to want to go to admin because there seems to be no place at all where it's safe to be a woman on reddit. the mensrights downvote and invasion brigades are actually starting to intrude in a serious way.

Why is there this need for invasion all the time? You have real issues to concentrate on, legal issues, real life issues, why all is stupid, petty, annoying, invasion?
