The phrase's exact origins are not crystal clear, but it's been used in English for hundreds of years. Its meaning is straightforward: those who are in a position of need or dependence shouldn't complain about the quality or specifics of what they're offered.

Seems to me that a lot of guys on the internet lately over the past few years complain about women and their unrealistic standards, and how they are lonely, virgins, sexless while at the same time complain about the majority of women out there. They are overweight, they are single mothers, they are old, they are ”promiscuous”, they are career oriented, and many of the other adjectives we’ve heard trough the years.

It’s quite clear that men want their cake and eat it too, yet they are realizing is not them who necessarily have the upper hand anymore (dating wise). Truth is, if you can’t date, you probably have nothing to offer looks wise, status wise, money wise but most importantly personality wise. Prove me wrong men with good personalities (funny, charismatic, confident, assertive, good at conversations) are rarely single.

Beggars can’t be choosers, if you don’t date regularly, yet have high standards (petite women, virgins, etc) you really need a reality check, either improve in whatever aspects you can, or be happy remaining single. Despite the now defunct MGTOW movement, women (FGTOW?) who have standards that usually go unmet, remain single without rambling on Reddit every week.

Get better, lower your standards or get out of the way.
