Height is something a lot of people got picked on for (girls included), whether it's being a short stump or a lanky person. But there's no doubt the "short guy" thing is by far the most common one. And no doubt people will say a lot of guys earn that short man syndrome reputation by being unnecessarily asshole-ish about it, but let's not pretend it's only these guys who are targeted for it.

Women obviously catch shit for other things and have their own versions of this. But it isn't clothes, tattoos, or weight. Those aren't genetic fixtures that you're predetermined to have and can't change (without surgery) so they're not really apt comparisons.

IME, men shit on other men for being short/small just as much as women do. I was never too short compared to my peers as a kid, but I was really skinny, and it was never girls that gave me shit for it

Could we compare it to people waving away women being angry or annoyed with “oh, she’s on her periods”? It’s a similar reaction of dismissal, when your reaction is explained not by the outside reason but rather by your own hormones or, in case of men, insecurity. Although, you might have pretty valid reasons to be angry or upset.

These "No one would be okay with it if it happened to women" posts about insults to male appearance always ignore the context of the situation.

Men use "I would fuck you" as a way to devalue a woman to the point of men wanting to kill or maim that woman. Men use "I wouldn't fuck you" to the same point. From men in Japan ejaculating on their hands and then tricking pretty female celebrities into shaking their hands, to men killing prostitutes at insanely high rates, to Black Dahlia and the many similar killings, to acid attacks performed to prevent her from being married or found sexy by anyone else, to forcing hijab to remove her face and dehumanize her, etc.

Does this mean that insulting men is benevolent, or even neutral? Of course not- it's bad. It just means that making implications about a woman's morality or character based on her appearance has many different consequences as doing that to a man, so people are going to be primed to treat it differently.

As a family of short people, the men in my family or men the women have got with (all on the shorter side) have never had an issue with women.

Short man syndrome is when a guy acts like a dick and like he is over compensating in the worst way possible.

And as a woman that is under 5ft and incredibly quiet, i was bullied from being 4 til I was 18, the guys in my year regularly picked me up, twisted me upside down and dropped me on my head. I am teased as an adult, I’ve been mistaken for a child.

Have I acted like a nobhead because of my height, nope. It isn’t something I can help so I embrace my height and if others have an issue with it, that’s their problem, not mine.

As a short man (5’7) yeah sure people can be cruel on the internet to short men but who gives a fuck. It’s the same as men hating on fat women on the internet.

At the end of the day you really shouldn’t care what some people say on the internet because they’re likely trying to generate some form of attention to compensate for how lonely and unfulfilled they are in life.

I agree that size-shaming men by associating shortness or small genital size with negative personality traits is very wrong and far too accepted by mainstream society. However, as someone who is 5' 5.5'' I've never personally been bullied over my height, nor have I have ever come across a dating profile bullying short people in my years of online dating across several platforms. I think some guys are making it far worse for themselves by training their internet algorithms to give them anti-short guy content. It's like if you're a single mom and started watching and interacting with some of the red-pill content shaming single-motherhood. Your algorithm would soon set you up with so many of those videos that you'd be convinced the world was chalk full of men with burning hatred and contempt for single moms instead of it being a weird fringe. People need to be far more aware of how much content a very small minority of people can churn out, and how unrepresentative your algorithm is for the real distribution of viewpoints and behavior.

A Napoleon Complex is the perceived use of aggression as a form of compensation for shortcomings. Women would also be called out for it, because at the end of the day, people do not like other people exhibiting aggression.

Consider the root issue; women bully short men because they want to push them to be less assertive/aggressive and more passive/submissive. A Napoleon Complex is the exact opposite outcome.

Reddit absolutely shits on short women, you don't have to imagine a hypothetical gender flip.

Look at the comments on pretty much any post where the husband is tall and the woman is short. You get the tall women who blame short women for stealing tall men from them, for being insecure, for making them feel insecure. The "she's messing up his bloodline" comments while there isn't a peep of that in tall woman/short man posts and instead everybody is congratulating OP.

I imagine it would be the same for any men or women that are born with unfortunate physical genetic card, baldness, big teeth, glasses, cult lip, etc

Arguably we are all born with something we wish we could change, snd arguably we all get bullied by kids, cause that’s what kids do.

Most of us grow out of this and accept it’s part of who we are and avoid those that try to use it against us. When men say they get rejected for their height I do take that with a very large pinch of salt because it’s an exceptionally vain thing to reject someone otherwise prefect for.

What I do notice is men cherry pick ladies profiles that say they prefer a man to be taller than them and use that to pretend their victims of some height conspiracy and use that as an excuse to lash out at others

I have, when i was in college i was kind to all men, short guys were my best friends! They were all shorter than me.

I even went on dates with short guys

I am 5”9 and i have 4”10 girl bestie, i had very obese girlfriend until she got extremely obsessed with a guy and kept on talking about him. I had to let her go at that point.

Humans pick Good personality over looks always.

Most of these men need to rewire their brains and get therapy because they never look inside. If they delete al that trauma they can have a fresh start.

There is certain limit to human kindness, obsession is negative energy!

On the flipside very tall women also have similar experiences. If women are taller than men, it seems both sexes feels uncomfortable with a potentially different "power" dynamic (men being short = "having less power than women" = he is weak and deserves less respect; women being taller = "having more power than men" = she makes men below her feel weak and she deserves less respect)

Short men are dealt the same card as very tall women. With sexual dimorphism, women are shorter on average, so it's not considered a problem. The last time I checked, men were following tall women into the women's restaurant to accuse them of being men and they're ridiculed for being too masculine. You can't compare short women to short men. It's the same as most men wanting a woman who is thinner/shorter than them.

I never knew male shortness was such a big deal or even a thing people thought about until reading posts on this sub. Certainly have never seen posts about it outside reddit and definitely haven't bullied any men or boys about height. Never even remarked on it either way. Ex male partners have been shorter than me.

Saw the male height thing mentioned on a podcast where Chris Williamson had William Costello on his show. That was about incel culture stuff. I'm thinking this is maybe another of those things that's inflated in certain spaces but has no real translation to real life and behaviour.

I guess you could say that it also tends to happen for women in those same spaces around weight? I don't think there's a solution unless we bring back stretching torture from the Victorian era lol. Or platform shoes? People's preferences are people's preferences. Even the 7 dwarves had a use.

Just to add that the female preference for height appears to have evolutionary roots due to the association between height and status / ability to protect. Which makes sense. I was also interested to look at famous couples where the woman is significantly taller than the guy and it just doesn't look right. Sophie Dahl looks as if she's taking her son out when in actuality it's Jamie Cullum, her partner.
