I read Windmill's most recent post with my wife over lunch, and it prompted a discussion about what settling really is, and what it is not. Our conclusion goes against everything that is regularly preached here on PPD, so I'm flairing this as a debate.

Settling is not necessarily leaving boxes unchecked as is stated here. Let's go with the typical triple six paradigm that receives more attention than it deserves here. Just because a woman forgoes the six figures, the six pack, or the six feet, does not mean she settled. Likewise, I'm certain there are countless attributes that would apply to men and their desires.

As my wife said, she would have laughed you out of the room if someone would have told her that she would meet and fall in love with a man almost a foot shorter, uneducated (at least formally) and no where near her level economically. However, she says on our second date she knew that I was the one she wanted, and everything else could be damned. She wasn't settling; she could have easily gotten those things, just not from me, but I had her heart and that mattered way more than all of the other things combined.

So with that my affirmation is that settling is not what you think is. Change my mind if you can.
