I've dated lots of men who are smarter in various different subjects. Never had any problems.

I've had problems with men who think they are smarter or men who say that they are smarter despite knowing nothing about my areas of expertise. Oh, and problems with men being condescending trying to imply they are smarter.

Everybody is smarter than you at something. If you think you are the smartest person at all things, I've got news for you.

Sure, I speak multiple languages, and I would say English is one of my worst. My husband regularly giggles at me using the wrong word. I once got genocide muddled up with genetics, which was fun. My husband is so much better at English than I am.

Yeah, that’s what I want. However if he’s an ass about it then I wouldn’t be able to tolerate it for long because I have already been there done that he lasted maybe 2 months maximum. But he really only got two chances to act like an ass in that time.

Edit: that was also a non-sexual relationship so he didn’t even get rewarded for being an ass.

probably not if i noticed it. dating dumb guys feels wrong, it brings out a really bad side of me where my frustrated attempts to connect turn into a lot of tension and unhappiness until i start showing misanthropic tendencies and wondering whether stupid people even have souls.

i wouldn't want to be on the other side of that. i feel like my dignity would be compromised.

But seriously, I think a material mismatch in either direction is going to add challenges to an already challenging endeavor.

Relationships are more likely to succeed when the parties are similar in fundamental ways. Intelligence is fundamental.

Depends if they berate me that i'm less smart than they are.

I had to end the friendship because the person constantly vented their frustrations on me because they were not being intelectually stimulated. I got so sick of it that i had to end the friendship for the sake of my own mental health.

We might have completely different definitions of smartness, but generally speaking, I am very attracted to guys I consider to be "smart", while simultaneously feeling inferior towards these men. I am a bit of a masochist, you must know.

As arrogant as it certainly sounds, I've yet to meet one of those, so I'm struggling to imagine it. I have met men field specifically smarter than me and I would say it often was irritating due to some issues with arrogance or just not shutting up about that one thing. I wouldn't think the former would change if they were wholesale smarter, but maybe the latter would?

A condesending one is not.

A know it all is not

A Man with low emotional intelligence is not.

Often men who self describe them selves as 'significantly smarter' also have one or more of the above traits. And so not a good match
