I wouldn't say "weird", I'd say "unusual" or "different". Lol.

I'll be honest, if a cute girl invited me to build her IKEA furniture I'd totally be happy to. I love assembling furniture.

However, make sure to have a plan B (like cooking, movie, food, etc) because she most likely will not want to build furniture for you the whole time. It'll just be a great ice breaker for the first while.

First off, no it's not weird. A date could be literally ANY activity that 2 (or more lol) people do together.

What's more important is the context. A girl will always unconsciously "listen" for that. Let me explain:

The conteNt of the date is putting together the furniture, however the conteXt is that this is a 2 person team and everyone in it will be assigned a role. If she's a feminine girl, and most girls are, she will respond well if she sees that you take on the role of the leader and lead this 2 person team effectively. This will create polarity and thus, attraction.

Leading means that you are gonna be the first to read the instructions and prompt her on what she needs to do to help you assemble the furniture. A leader is always the hardest working person in the room. Also, you tell her, she complies. Note that you don't have to be a savage doing that, you can be super chill, find your own style of leadership.

If the conteXt is right, the conteNt doesn't matter, and neither will you have to put a lot of thought into how to seduce her (should I order food? etc), if you act cool she'll be trying to seduce you. That's where you wanna be coming from as a man IMO.

So to sum up, it doesn't matter what you do, but rather how you do it. If she agrees to put together the furniture with you, this is a way for her to get to know you, and how you roll in a situation like that because from this, she will unconsciously deduce everything else and generally if she'll be having a good time with you.

Nahh this is the coolest date. One of my first with my ex was helping me get my old basement set up. Hung the big tv, some shelving, knick knacks in their places, etc.

Then we went and got dinner and brought it back and watched a movie in the completed media room. It was actually pretty great lol.

Typically the most memorable dates are the ones that include some sort of activity rather than just a coffee date or a dinner. I feel that doing something even if it’s helping build furniture is actually kind of cool because it will relieve anxiety from the both of you by making you two focus on a task and therefore allowing the both of you to talk in between to break the ice. As a female I would probably go over and help someone, I feel like it’s a good way to get to know a person and in a way form bond even if it’s friendship. Not to mention it’s attractive to watch guys build things so there’s that too.

So I have a sort of similar experience. A few weeks into dating, my boyfriend was over at my apartment. I'd ordered a new futon just before we started going out, consisting of a separate frame and mattress. But when I unboxed the frame I realized I'd made a terrible mistake. This was the most complicated, convoluted instruction manual for any piece of furniture I've ever ordered. So I just had the frame sitting there not-put-together for a month. He comes over and decides we will tackle this together. Dear god, I never could have done this on my own. I would have died with the frame still laying there in pieces. It took several days and several rounds of taking pieces apart and putting them back together because the instructions were so difficult to follow. We still reflect on this experience often. 10/10 would recommend as a bonding experience. 0/10 would do again.
