People may downvote me for going against the politically correct answer, but it is what it is. You can check what I'm saying by just googling the chance of pregnancy, the chance of STDs and the effects and treatments of STDs.

I use condoms for short-term hookups to protect myself from STD's.

If I can trust a woman to use a reliable form of protection, and I know her long enough, I may consider to go without protection. However, I do require her to:

be tested for std's and show me the report
use some form of contraceptive that is not less effective with casual use (maybe an IUD or slow release under-skin long term hormones, and not pills)
sign a contract she understands that it is her responsibility to prevent pregnancy, and I will under no circumstance want kids nor will pay child support nor marry her.

Using a condom your first time with someone is smart, mostly for STD reasons. If you hook up again maybe ask if she’s hooking up with anyone else. If you’re both only sleeping with each other, the risk of getting an STD is pretty low.

My only concern with condoms is they can break. This happened once and I didn’t feel it (I’m a woman) but my partner luckily noticed. If he hadn’t noticed, he would’ve came inside me.

I’m on birth control (pill) and personally I think that’s the most reliable method coupled with no condom but making sure to pull out before hand - maybe even awhile before you think you’re going to finish just to be on the safe side. The risk of getting pregnant ain’t worth it!
