I think I missed out on a number of opportunities with women because I'm worried to come off as a guy who doesn't get hints to back off.
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 111 points112 points113 points 4 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link
Sorry to hear that, at least you're considerate.
For me personally, here are my hints:
I'm doing something else while he is talking to me
I don't make eye contact
I continue my activity
I say something that sounds like goodbye
I tell him I'm not interested (the ones who continue after this one will never have a chance with me)
[–]hsmwill3 27 points28 points29 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link
Presumably all of these mean they don’t have a chance with you?
[–]Optionsmfd 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
shes only interested in the guys she attracted to.... for them she will give all her attention

Daaamn right!
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 21 points22 points23 points 4 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
Yeah but not never. If a guy doesn't respect an explicit statement (as opposed to a more generic cue) then I'd worry about his perception of reality.
[–][deleted] 89 points90 points91 points 4 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link
For men, it has nothing to do with you personally it has more to do with women in general. What I'm trying to say is, that the guys that hit on you don't care about you in particular they're just trying to get laid. We are just trying to sell you the idea that sleeping with us is a good idea. Kinda in the same way a door to door salesmen keeps selling no matter how many rejections he gets. It's literally all the same with most of us. It's a numbers game for men. What you are witnessing is what is necessary for men to do in order to get a chance to mate. Think about it like this, your prince charming, whether you met him already or not, was once a socially unaware creep that no girl liked or would even fuck, but through trial and error he became the man you are desperately attracted to. For men is about growth and self development. Women, at the ripe old age of 16 are already in yhe top ranks of the sequel marketplace based on nothing but just their looks and youth. Men are judged mostly based on our skills and personality. We start with nothing and have to fight to be an attractive, strong man so women can pick us. What you have been witnessing is men at the gym, putting in the reps to build a solid social foundation to further better their communication with women to be the man they admire. You are judging a men who is in the process of growing and try to be better. That's like judging a athlete on day one and ignoring how good they could be in 10 years.

You nailed it on the head
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 27 points28 points29 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Aw, that was well put. I guess it's hard for me to see cause I've also dated non-conventionally "attractive" men so I don't see the looks thing as a big deal. A lot of my girlfriends don't care very much about a guy's looks but more about his demeanor. The self-declared "ugly guy" playing the numbers game desperately and overcompensating often shoots himself in the foot, going on the obsessive journey when sometimes confidently casual interactions are the ones that win.
I should add, however, that my friends and I aren't the shallow Love Island girls. If you're after those, well. What to say!
[–]SolarTortality 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The obsessive journey and the countless rejections are how the ugly man learns to be the confident casual man. You just don’t see that part when you meet the end product.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
I could be wrong but my theory is women are attracted to a man's lifestyle and men are obviously attracted to a women's look. And I mean in the dating stage, over the course of some tears they'll start to fall in love. Women want to know what he does for a living or what's he good at, what's his hobby. Is he a skater, computer programmer, tattoos artist, etc. Men just ask what is she 1 out of 10.
See the thing is, all men play the numbers game it's just that the men who you don't think play that game just play it too good for you to notice. Don't think for one second that the guy you're attracted isn't playing a game. You are a number to him, don't be fooled.
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
My boyfriend and I have interests in common. We have fun doing things together. Yes, there's physical attraction but there are arguably "more attractive, more affluent" men that I wouldn't touch with someone else's vagina haha.
[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Yes, and there all way more attractive women, that's the beautiful thing about loyalty, sticking with someone even though you can do better. Being a loyal person is the best life strategy. Loyalty buys you so many things
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I guess that's it! What's "better" than being accepted, respected and understood? Maybe not everybody wants that, but that's what partnerships are built on, not silly rankings.
[–][deleted]10 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
True. Anyway, to give you a taste of where I'm at, I have to talk to every girl I see or I might die alone. Isn't that crazy. You get use to it but it's a weird concept when you think about it. If I don't talk to every women I see, no women would dare talk to me, even if they wanted to because women aren't allowed to approach hence I will stay single and eventually die alone. If I talk to 100 women, only one would actually be interested. I'm sorry if I annoy some women but if I don't I won't be able to have a family one day. I always wanted kids. And I have to do it all before I'm 30, or at least that's what I want. I'm in my twenties now so I have to approach many women. One of these days I'll get a girl though, for men it just takes a little time.
[–]bubblegummybear8 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
You'll be alright. I hope you find the one, but also men are fertile for a long time too. In your 20s, don't worry you e got plenty of time. Times are changing too, most people wanna run away from kids until 40 these days. Think of all the experiences you can have solo and with your friends too. Life can be good in many ways, while you wait for other things to manifest. I hope you get what you want!
[–]Zephyroz0 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Also, that is a good statistical fact n strategy but I'll also point out you don't need to be stressing... The secret with women is within yourself... Biologically speaking, women are there to compensate men in areas we are inept... So therefore ask yourself a question, what can u bring to the relationship....
Every relationship will have these similar criterias checked off...
Stability - financial and physical security... Females have to be feel comfortable n safe with u
Hygiene - poor hygiene is a turn off
Compatibility - do u have similar interest and hobbies n humour
Remember the size in the pants matter, but we speaking about wallet. The wallet affords more time to spend towards hobbies and interests... But money doesn't buy a real relationship, it only buys you the chance to enable an opportunity for compatibility... If all u care about is biz that makes life boring as well for compatibility...

Thank the gods a lot of women are like this.
[–]Lotus_82 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That’s kind of an immature way to look at things, and the men I know would never “keep trying” with a woman who already expressed that she’s not interested. I’m sorry but stop trying to speak for all men because not everyone sees things the way you do.
If you keep trying after a woman let you know she’s not interested then you’re literally choosing to ignore and disrespect her wishes and you’re getting dangerously close to predatory behavior where you’re fine with gaslighting a woman to pressure her to change her mind.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You do you and I'll do me. Also, this might be a miscommunication because I don't disrespect anyone intentionally. Also I truly believe that the worst thing you can do for yourself is take dating advice from people on reddit.

Dunning-Kruger in action. The dumbest guys are dripping with confidence and ignorance; perversely women find confidence attractive. Many women have an asshole phase until they learn to tell the difference between confidence and ignorance/arrogance. Men do this because it works, eventually.
Meanwhile, most women find sensitive young men great as friends, but not sexually interesting. Many men haven't been taught the right way to court a woman, often becoming emotional tampons w/"nice guy syndrome."
This sucks for all involved with any self-awareness.

Yeah totally...I can see that often, like I know he thinks what he's doing is good, he believes it. But..
I think this got downvoted because emotional intelligence is not really something that men often develop, so it's no good asking some guys to listen to their heart because they often lack the insight to understand what they hear.
Plus when it comes to the guys seeking casual sex, love and the heart have nothing to do with it. ;)
EDIT: You may notice a lot of rhetoric around the idea that it's not sufficient enough to give advice like, just be yourself." "Listen to your heart" would fall under this category as well because we're talking about something that doesn't work until one understands how to truly implement the advice.
So getting this advice will frustrate a lot of people who are still struggling with that work.
Yup, I understand. It's really sad that this is the state of affairs. If I ever have a son, I'll make sure he knows his feelings matter, that it's okay to be sensitive and that his masculinity is unconditional.
[–][deleted] 94 points95 points96 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Because we will be alone if we don’t pursue or at least try.
Men have to prove their value, women are the judges of that value. It’s a numbers game for us.
And yes it’s weird and cringe to see guys fail with women but that’s the only way to become good at talking to women and talking to people in general.
[–]Karmacosmik 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They probably thought you were being patronizing but yeah, that’s pretty much it. Unless you’re the caliber of men that women throw themselves at, you’re gonna have to have some level of persistence to have a shot at finding a woman who’ll willingly choose you everyday over all the other guys she can easily hop in bed, and potentially in love, with.
You’ll never understand why men have to be so persistent as long as there’s another guy walking up to you, pushing you for a chance.

This is how I feel as a man. Don't let her reject you, but BEFORE YOU FLAME ME this is what I mean. You can tell if someone's into you when you're flirting by the way the respond, their body language etc. If she radiates hard "I'm not into this vibes" don't push it further. Say "well it was cool chatting with you" and walk away before she rejects you. If you can read and do that, that's emotional maturity.
Also as far as already being in a relationship, a lot of guys think like this. If she's single it's a battle royale, if she's dating it's 1v1.
[–]genesiscz 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Unless you are on an autistic spectrum and kinda unable to be emotionally mature. On another note, she could be just "not vibing" because she's shy, happened so many times already that the girl does not seem interested while in reality she's just shy.

[–]dwiggs81 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I am on the spectrum, but not so much that anyone would notice unless they were looking for it. Noticing signals and hints is mostly impossible in the moment, but looking back it's obvious. Because of this I've missed so many opportunities with amazing women, and have pursued dead ends for literal years. At this point in my dating life, I usually think everything is a "No" unless she expressly places my hand on her boob and says "We're fucking tonight."
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It’s tough. There’s a lot of incentive for men to chat you up at the beach, but they all should be respectful when you decline their advances and surely ask to be left alone. Some guys can read the signs. Some guys can’t. Some guys care. Some guys don’t. It’s really frustrating as I am a guy who wants to talk to women, but I also feel bad bothering them if they wish to be alone. I admit that many guys are dense and don’t pick up on the signs nearly as well as we should. I try to be as observant as I can be, but I’m a whole bunch of nerves when even considering the approach of a woman.
Hope that gives you some perspective at the very least.

I dunno, it's hard. I can only speak on my behalf, I don't know all women. I don't think anyone can be described by a blanket statement. I hope you meet your match, someone who accepts you for who you are, with or without the bunch of nerves!

Thanks! I appreciate you saying that! And I hope you’re able to get the peace and solitude you seek.
I was at a festival last weekend and I started talking to a girl and she politely told me that she just needs some alone time so I wished her well. If there were any advice I could give you it would to be upfront and direct. (Not that you’re not already going that)
Yes, I try to let them know. Some people in general don't understand that you can have a good time alone, and not be lonely. I think some guys see a woman alone and identify a necessary gap to slot themselves in. Many people still need to catch up to the times we live in, in Europe.

Men need to be persistent and constantly approach to have sexual access to women, the more timid the man the less success he has with women as it's a numbers game.
[+]bubblegummybear[S] -11 points-10 points-9 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Idk though. I grew up in Europe, been to various countries and have female friends all over. Pretty much all my friends make or have made moves on men. I don't think men need to constantly approach to have sexual access to women. And, by the way, "sexual access" sounds rather odd. People have chemistry and they move forward together. It's not like a one-way thing.
[–]rudebwoy100 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Do they make moves on average looking men? Most men are average and i'm sure girls aren't hitting on them all the time if ever.
Sexual access is the appropriate terminology, a lot of young men in todays world, especially the West aren't having sex nor forming intimate relationships with women and trying to disuade men from approaching women is not good for society.
The men who don't get sublte hints are probably socially awkward and can't read social cues well.
[+]bubblegummybear[S] -9 points-8 points-7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What are "average looking men"?
[–]rudebwoy100 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Tinder studies shows that women found 80% of men unattractive, average would fall somewhere in the 50% percentile of male attractiveness; average height, average looking face & body.
Unless you're a really beautiful man or a celebrity you won't have girls fawning all over you and you have to pursue the woman in order to form a relationship. The more you pursue women the more success you will have, it's the way how the mating game works.
It sucks that some of us men are awkward and can't read social cues but maybe gently and directly turn them down. You can tell somebody that they're not your type without being rude about it. If the guy still lingers then move away or even call the police imo as it's just creepy at that point.
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hey, thanks for all the replies! It's been really enlightening. Constructive conversation is how to avoid these awkward encounters!
[–]vbcbandr 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Media has programmed us to be persistent: movies (many of which cater to women like Rom Coms) tell men that if you are persistent she will appreciate you working for her and she'll come around.
Not the sole reason, of course, but one of the reasons.
[–]YourFutureIsWatching 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Good question and it's good to see you reaching out for other opinions.
There can be a lot of insecurity/expectation driving persistent behaviour. I don't think it is necessarily even that they are oblivious to cues. The (flawed) reasoning might be that if you get rejected, well then leaving is the same as staying, so why not stay a little longer and ensure you've exhausted all possible chances with this girl.
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why are men so persistent? Field Report
Small problem: This isn't a field report.
What are the dynamics and behaviours of each situation in your opinion?
And a big problem here is that the audience in this subreddit have come here precisely because they lack the ability to get laid or get a girlfriend, etc.
So coming here with that kind of inquiry is like going to a place where people ask for advice on how to fix their car, and asking them to explain the inner workings of internal combustion.
In order for newbs here to identify what's going on in seduction, they'd need skills that many of them don't have.... yet.
2
I went to the beach recently and I can't even recount the amount of men trying to hit on me......Various men stop to talk to me and, even after telling them I am not interested plus, I'm in a relationship, they hang around. Why do men do this?
I went to the beach recently and I can't even recount the amount of men trying to hit on me......Various men stop to talk to me and, even after telling them I am not interested plus, I'm in a relationship, they hang around.
Why do men do this?
This isn't a justification, but men are often either lonely or they have come to define their self-worth as a man in terms of how often they can hook up with a new girl.
(This last part is why guys often joke about a wedding being like a funeral, because it spells the end of the guy "being a man.")
This seems to be a cultural issue.
3
I've never witnessed this behaviour from a woman to a man. I'm sure people would say it's a biological impulse. I googled and found this:
Couple things here:
4
I feel like sometimes these men are so emotionally unintelligent and unable to grasp my mood.
As a woman, you would not have direct experience being a boy who grew up among other boys.
That culture is different from how girls are among girls growing up and we all know it.
So we already have a cultural explanation that more than accounts for the lack of empathy. Men spend their childhoods discouraging each other from developing such social skills.
When I was a kid, I was often bullied by my male peers because I didn't fit into the very narrow definition of manhood, though no one had the insight to realize that was the case. Instead, people just though I was odd or maybe gay.
Because I wouldn't accept the idea that "friends" would emotionally abuse each other that way. (Like what, I couldn't just relax and be myself around my friends? Fuck that.)
But most boys accept it and submerge their emotions and develop little, if any, ability to regulate or handle them. They don't develop empathy because they don't want to seen as pussies.
5
To believe that, no matter what, you must persist in this task.
Because manhood is defined for many guys, as the ability to get a girl. Whether that means sex or a relationship.
Have we not evolved at all?
Our culture certainly evolved this way. Or maybe we could say that it has failed to adapt as we moved from rural areas to urban ones which mix multiple cultures together.
Many cultures also had various ways of passing on the social skills needed to navigate one's way through dating.
We don't really have those things now and nothing effectively took their place.
6
TL;DR I wonder what the boundary is between seducing someone, being seduced by someone and believing you are being seduced by someone?
Seduction is a team sport, really. It's not like a unilateral thing that one person does to another. BOTH people participate when it's happening.
People just have their own preferences and beliefs about what they personally want it to look like when seduction is happening.
Some people like to be in a dominant role in seduction and others like to be in a submissive role, while still others want something more egalitarian.
Sorry for adding the wrong flair! Thanks for your response.
[–]egonzacuar 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Isn't it also a question of the way men equate having sex with success and thus the insistent pursuit of it? I mean, why do people brag about how many people theyve had sex with? Yeah, I'd agree with it having alot more to do with a score-oriented masculinity than with genetics or testosterone levels.
[–]sadhak_x0 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
In the post industrial world, men are led to equate masculinity with women's approval. A guy who uses a flashlight is considered a fucking loser. His female friends and relatives will all secretly laugh at him and feel that he is weak, bottom-feeder material. Yet, a woman who uses a trillion dildos is "experimenting with her sexuality" bla bla bla. Now don't get me wrong, we all love a naughty playful girl with or without her toys. But the point stands and the examples are endless: men are made to equate their value by the amount of female approval they get. Sex is the ultimate form of acceptance. If you can never have sex with consent (being a patriarch who forces his wife at will is also for losers who could not get their wives to respect them) then you're an unacceptable person, an invalid. Sure, everyone may love you the way they love a puppy after it has been castrated, but you will never be respected on that pure and primal level. As for nature vs nurture, there is no such thing. All nurturing is a psychological sublimation of nature, and this is well known to psychologists.

[–]bubblegummybear[S] 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yes, that's the difference. A lot of apologetic arguments insist on nature and ignore nurture. This self-fulfilling prophecy of the biological male makes it virtually impossible to evolve our culture.
The "boys will be boys" is a mantra that we are brainwashed with at a very young age. There's no telling where nature ends and culture begins, or how they reinforce each other.
[–]dwiggs81 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I wonder what society would look like if we did away with the whole "different genders think/feel/process information differently" mantra. Do men really look at appearances first, or are we brought up to look at how pretty someone is? Are women really completely uninterested in sex? One thing that I was brought up to believe is that as a man, all I had to do was be successful in life, and women would be drawn to that sense of stability and safety. As a single 39 y.o., I can attest that this is not the case.
Yeah of course. We get lied to from such a young age and it creates all sorts of confusion when reality doesn't match expectation. That women are uninterested in sex is such bullshit, really. And it creates confusion for girls who find themselves interested in sex and don't engage with their sexuality. Because of this, it took me longer to learn about my sexual preferences and desires. I'd let guys "do sex" to me as opposed to being an equal in sexual interactions, this is specifically in relation to casual sex.
Sadly, the media has supported these twisted notions of men and women. The world is changing quickly and the textbooks need to be updated.

FYI: this situation has been unchanged for many years and likely will continue. What is not being said here is this… when men/women stop talking, complimenting you…. How men/woman feel about that!! Take each moment for what it is! That is a human you are talking with and hopefully they are being respectful and like manners should be the same. Women pursue men too!

As a guy, it is better than going home and kicking yourself for not talking to that girl you saw at the beach
[–]anoyingprophet 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
To begin, there are women who are persistent. I've had women approach me and keep on trying after I rejected, and many men are in the same boat. For the most part though, there are more men who are persistent than women and I think that just has to do with the fact that in general, men approach more often than women.
As far as why men are so persistent, there are different reasons. But one major reason is that, believe it or not, but persistence sometimes actually works. I've approached a girl before who used to work at my gym and she rejected me and told me she had a bf. I would see her everytime I was there because she was working the front desk and everytime I seen her I would still strike up convos with her just in passing. Eventually she got to know me, and suddenly the mysterious bf that was mentioned in the past no longer existed, and it turned out she lied about him because she wasn't interested at first. We ended up dating and she became my gf for a while.
I feel that this one experience where persistence worked out has stuck with me, and I now believe it can work again. Which is why I'm not opposed to being persistence. There is a fine line however. A man needs to understand when he's no longer being persistent and it's turning into flat out creepy. Even if the actions and things the guy is saying is t creepy, the girl might be extremely uncomfortable and become creeped out. This is why I don't recommend it for most people. If your social IQ isn't the highest, you might think you're being persistent, but you're actually just scaring someone.
So in conclusion, because of the small likelihood that persistence may work, many men, and even some women, continue to show persistence to those who they are attracted to.

I think there’s a couple of possible reasons as to why this may be. I think one is that, we KNOW that if we don’t initiate, we will end up being alone, women NEVER initiate.
Another reason, and this won’t apply to all men, is that they’re just desperate. They’ve been alone for so long that, when they get to know a woman, they can’t seem to let go of them. Sometimes you might see a guy saying he remembers a compliment a girl gave him two, three or even 10 years ago, because they barely ever get compliments. It’s the same sort of thing.
Edit: also because some guys can just be creepy

I should ask you a question. Do you really enjoy this kind of attention in your mind?
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
No, it annoys me. It makes me feel objectified. Maybe two guys respected my boundaries, and that's when I can respect a man in return.
[–]rudebwoy100 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
May i ask what exactly makes you feel objectified?
The things men look for in women are in this order:
- Looks, personality, morals and values.
If we approach you because we think that you're physically attractive it just means that you have satisfied our first requirement. What's wrong with that?
If you read the post, this whole thread is about me saying "no" and being ignored multiple times. If you were in my position, wouldn't you feel objectified? i.e. treated as though you are not a subject, but an object of desire - and that desire is the focus of the interaction.
[–]rudebwoy100 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Being objectified means that they aren't seeing you as a human being that has feelings and emotions but rather a sex doll to be used for their enjoyment.
These men just seem socially awkward from what you're describing. If it's persistent with hordes of men that you're uninterested in i can see how it can be annoying but i was just challenging your use of the word "objectify."

You should pay /r/Nicegirls a visit then. Though of course you’re gonna see men doing it more often because in general, men are the ones who have to make the first move and start talking to women – since most women don’t. But I believe that the percentage of people who won’t take No for an answer are similar among both the women who ask guys out and the guys who ask women out. It’s just more guys asking out women in general.

Is this in the US or Europe? I'm curious. I've never seen nor experienced it in my life in Australia. People just don't go up and approach random women or other people. However, when I'm at a nude beach, I do get a few much older men approach me and I do get irritated because I just want to swim and nap. Younger men/anyone under 50 will never approach me.
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
This is in Europe! I'd say it's men 20-45 yo.
[–]Odd-Opening-3158 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Is it a particular country? Are you able to say or not? I don’t want any personal details that breaks the rules. I’m just so utterly stunned. In Australia, most people don’t get bothered. It’s very unusual to chat up random people you don’t know.
Most young people I know are also not as social. Like even at uni. Because everything is very geared towards online people don’t meet in person as much.
That is not to say that I don’t believe you! I was just so shocked. I can walk down the streets of Europe and never be bothered. But I’m referring to countries like Sweden, Holland, Germany, France, UK, Italy, Belgium… and no issues at the beach.
Let's just say it's a Mediterranean country. The culture of machismo and patriarchal dynamics here are a lot. But I experience this in England too.
[–]Odd-Opening-3158 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh wow I’m honestly sorry to hear this. I have never experienced this in my life except at one type of beach. But it isn’t severe to the point that men are coming up to me all the time. I’m pretty much ignored in most day to day stuff. Even if I walked into a bar alone, which I do, I would be ignored. There are certain types of men and certain cultures where I do find it’s a bit more prevalent but it hasn’t been to the point of me feeling threatened or intimated.
[–]IntroMystique 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is my take on it:
There seems to be this belief that men should be persistent or keep trying. “She’s playing hard to get”, per-se.
It’s a horrible thing and I’ve witnessed countless attempts by men trying pursue women who have absolutely zero interest in them.
This has always been my fear: appearing like a creep. So just like another Redditor mentioned, in my case too, it has caused a large amount of missed opportunities by simply overlooking “the signs” — not wanting to appear like a creep.
Interest can sometimes be difficult to read, especially from strangers.
[–]crisdd0302 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No two women are the same, and no two men are the same either, so the cues you talk about IMO don't have that much importance, even though for you they might. As a man, if a woman tells me she's not interested that's the end of the conversation. If they don't say that point blank then I'll try my best to honestly get to know them and see if there's any compatibility, and subsequently try to see if there's a connection or a spark.
Many men can be emotionally immature, and so can be many women. The only way we can know a person's maturity is talking to them, because many people can fake being pretty, but not many people can fake being mature.
I met my gf this way, she approached me in a club, we got to talking and saw how compatible we were. Her group of friends joined mine, everyone went to my place, she and I quietly left to her place, had a one night stand, turns out she might be the love of my life.
That first moment when meeting someone, it can be everything!
[–]Maabuss 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Eh. Depends on the man. I would hope most understand the concept of consent, but I'm always appalled when that seems to not be the case.
My issue is I won't talk to women. Or men. Or children. Or.... Anyone. Lol. I'm far more comfortable behind my screen.
I used to be like that too. But also I enjoy time by myself, it's a comfort zone!

Innate desire to procreate with as many women as possible. It’s evolution baby!
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
It's an interesting one. Evolution is also adaptation and I just can't limit my thinking of relationships to that...in such an evolved world made of super fast communication via the internet. It's like...catch up FFS!
[–]xNilon 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Non-scientific answer, but I believe while humans have evolved extremely fast regarding technology or social frameworks, we have almost not evolved in a biological way by now. I don't know the correct numbers, but how old is the human species, 60.000 years? I think biological evolution takes much much longer, so modern men are still just the same men, wanting to reproduce, because it's basically what we are here for.
[–]bubblegummybear[S] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
I can see that! Thanks for the comment. It's definitely true. Do you think that reshaping our culture around consent would help? Do most men at this evolutionary stage have the capacity to control impulse?
[–]genesiscz 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
When you (girls) stop ignoring men even though you are interested in them, we can reshape around consent.
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
That's part of reshaping our culture around consent, learning as girls that we are agents and we should give consent in unequivocal ways. You don't know what it's like to grow up as a girl.
I hear a lot of complaining about what growing up as a young boy is like, and trust me I do understand because I viewed it in action. But growing up as a young girl is an experience that's full of gaslighting. Being openly or covertly raised as "the second sex" that's ancillary to men teaches young girls to second guess their desires, to surrender decision making to men. Which is why, when a courtship situation where a woman must make a decision arises, she may hold the belief that the man must decide for her.
Change needs to happen simultaneously.
[–]genesiscz 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yea, I hear you. I am afraid the change will take a couple of decades. To be honest tho, it is already happening. The problem is you see the worse side of the coin. You always remember the bad, rude behavior because you can't even see the good one, because you simply reject them all. When they walk away you won't remember it as much as when they still hover around which makes you uncomfortable. That makes it easier to remember I guess. That's just an assumption, and I can be wrong.
Are you not interested in friendly talk/making friends at all?
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I can see change, maybe not at my desired pace but it's coming. Places like this are helpful and unprecedented. I'm always open to discussion and frankly I've learned a lot.
This subreddit has been largely a safe space for me to ask questions and give answers. I think true friendship and mutual respect is what's going to improve our society.

Nope, but women don’t either
[–]13asky 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Well depends on your place, where you live and how men are used to female attention and "closing the deal". If it's from a place where men are accustomed to approaching women talking their way through and it works, they will apply that logic no matter where they go. It takes strong hints for them to understand but just because you are tolerating and being nice to them by not saying get the fuck out of my face, they will assume that you might be a tough chick who's resisting or testing them and they need to try harder to impress you(push and pull method)and it's only matter of time or repeated rejections from you before they could figure out rhqt you hav no desire at all. Learn to enjoy the attention but not yield to it. Your attitude to the attraction is all that matters, attraction is a blessing especially in your prime. You would be a very wise mother in future and you would know pros and cons of this kind of attention you had when you remember a decade or 2 from now. Imagine if you haven't had this kind of attraction how would you meet a potential future partner. Be open to possibilities, So don't think hard just understand or analyze the nature but not question the nature. Because that's how evolution works like it not 😀
Thanks for the advice!

This is one of the reasons so many guys visit this forum.
I want to tell all the dudes one word: "Empathy", understand it. Empathy can be learnt.
Edit: To all ladies: please read something about "high functioning autism" and it's behavioral patterns. You shape the society, you understand emotions better than us men 😅. ASD affects both men and women, these people don't look different than everyday joes, but crave for friendships and human touch in today's corporate culture.

I so love the fact I found a post talking about this. Aspie here. And it's so true and so important to know. Please, trust me when I say that it takes a lot of effort to go to talk with a pretty girl. When I do, I somehow just start autopiloting without actually being present sometimes, nervousness, heart rate through the roof, focus on what you actually wanted to say makes it all way harder than you can even imagine.
Of course, there are jerks around, but please, try to bear with us, be direct (that means don't give us hints at that time) while not being rude.
Just a question tho, would be a little chitchat hurtful for you? Are you not AT ALL interested to form any friendships at least?

I love making new friends. I have many male friends who are like brothers to me. I think in the past, I've given my friendship to men who then wanted to "turn me" or persistently escalate.
That makes things more black and white for women who feel like they don't want to be the cause of their own suffering and annoyance.

i just finished reading a book about testosterone, which might interest you given the google. it’s called “T: The Story of Testosterone, the hormone that dominates and divides us” by Carole Hooven — it also links lower empathy to higher amounts of testosterone.
i think it’s correct to think that biologically, we’re more predispositioned to make advances towards women; evolutionarily speaking, that’s what gives men their best reproductive success.
as for why do they stick around after you tell them you’re in a relationship? they’re just disrespectful men, in my opinion. at no point have i let whatever my biological predispositions are disregard the opposite sex’s comfort or relationship status. yeesh 🤦🏻♂️
I'll check the book out, think I heard of it before! Thanks for sharing 🙂
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It’s a combination of being emotionally retarded and clearly seeing your not interested and not registering and the other side of the coin is the whole “I like a man who is persistent” so when they hear “I have a bf” they think “that could just be a deflection so I’ll just try to carry on”
I feel sorry for women in this context. I think that if I was a woman I would be straight up and tell them to fuck off but then I’m immediately reminded of he fact that you have no idea who the dude is and if he is a psycho, so you can’t do that. And here we are, reading your justified frustration.
Yeah, I'm a pretty strong personality and very vocal as well as educated. Sometimes, with all that goes on in the world, I don't wanna confront a guy who I already think has little emotional intelligence. Some men in the past have acted so hurt or offended, or even turned violent from being harshly rejected.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I dream of a world where I can approach any woman I want, enjoy her company in that moment or get rejected and be able to walk away dignity intact, while women can enjoy the freedom to reject a guy without him getting offended or aggressive, or just enjoying that masculine feminine dynamic just for the sake of it, with no misunderstood signs that this is going beyond that.
Never gonna happen though. Scratch any cynic and you’ll find a disappointed idealist.

Some guys aren't socially aware and are too pushy, however women often try to brush you off immediately and as a guy you have a bit of success if you can just get through initial resistance and show them youre a cool guy that has something in common with them. Also though I often try to continue an interaction and end it normally if a girl tells me she has a boyfriend. I dont just walk away the second she says that, rather, I try to wrap up the conversation in a natural way.

A decent percentage of men have compulsive relationships to sex (esp when it's the only socially acceptable form of intimacy in their lives) and basically go after it at all costs like addicts. Even if this is a small percentage, they're out there constantly spamming themselves at any woman they find, so I imagine that women experience them constantly. Also, especially in previous generations, emotional neglect is almost default parenting for boys, so stuff like social cues and reading other people is something that doesn't develop for a lot of guys, or isn't as advanced as it is for women of their age. Many of the dudes on this sub are here trying to fix problems of never having been shown how to socialize/flirt/connect with women, either due to deficits in their upbringing or more global issues like autism or social anxiety. You are going to get weird answers from a lot of them.
I have experienced many women, possibly ones who are dealing with similar issues, taking rejection very, very poorly and engaging in similar persistent behaviors towards me, but you are right in that I have never seen them walk up and do this to strangers. There is an enormous cultural difference there. I've never known anyone who catcalls, but my impression is that guys who do this are doing it performatively to feel manly tbh.
Thanks for your response! It's really insightful. I hope that especially for the guys in this sub that this post helps to not consolidate any toxic thinking about how to get with women.
[–]RegretsNothing1 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
And to think most women will never be informed about what we men go through like you have.
[–]Slomojoe 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's learned behavior throughout our lives as dudes that persistence pays off. The amount of games and tests that we have seen growing up and trying to talk to girls (no, not EVERY woman) has conditioned some of us to be this way. That's not to say you aren't putting out obvious signals. Some of us are oblivious, and some of us are just rude. I would say most dudes can get the picture, it's more of the pickup types that will ignore obvious clues,
TLDR; the amount of times "no" has actually meant "yes, but try harder" has warped our minds.
[–]mcjon77 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because if a man wants to go out with you he needs to actually ask you to find out if you're interested. The fact that men can't telepathically tell when a woman's interested in them or not with 100% accuracy it's not the fault of men.
In today's world, maybe one out of 10-20 women that a man approaches may actually be interested in him enough to date him. So a man is left with two options. Either approach the 20 women in hopes that one says yes, or wait until a woman's choosing signals are so obvious that he knows he has "permission" to strike up a conversation with her. If he chooses the latter, I absolutely guarantee you that he will miss opportunities with women that would have been interested but didn't give him the right signals and he will misinterpret signals of women who just want friendship as opposed to a relationship.
Personally I think that the only thing that some of those guys you mentioned did wrong was to continue to pursue you after you explicitly Express that you weren't interested. It's not good for you and it's not good for them. The moment you express this interest explicitly they should have said "thank you very much, have a nice" day and moved on.
If I'm interested in a girl I strike up a conversation and ask her out. Why? Because I learned from my mistakes. A girl I was super interested in but never asked out later wondered why I never bothered to ask her out. I swore that I would never make that mistake again.
[–]ShadowPaladin10 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think it is related to the amount of men trying to pursue a women without thinking about how to build something before. I think that many of these men just see a girl and approach them just to get their number or thinking she will want to hang out just because they asked and when they are successful after trying like a thousand times, they think it will work with the next one and so on. I don't know if I am wrong but I see it that way. I hope you can enjoy your free time the next time!

This is no excuse of course, it’s things i’ve learned about myself recently. These men need help in learning to take a hint
[–]rockyroad25 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not all men. Mark Manson talks about this in his book "Models" that there are two types of men. The first one is socially anxious men who have the fundamentals down and are very aware of social norms but are too afraid to speak to new women. They have a lot of social anxiety and most men fall into this category. The other category is socially disconnected men. These men are always oblivious to what others think and feel around them. This category of men have far less fear or anxiety and are oblivious to social cues. These men have little hesitance for action but they tend to do the wrong actions at the wrong times over and over and they rarely understand why.

J/k ..That sounds really annoying and it's embarrassing to the rest of us who aren't so aggressive.. I'm sorry
Sorry I don't mean to complain. Now I understand the context of this sub, and it's community.
I like sensitive men. The only two guys I exchanged contacts with were the ones who seemed really receptive and respectful. My boyfriend is a sensitive guy. He pursued me but also asked me about my feelings. I think the problem with dating culture is the whole covert "decipher this and that" vibe. We should just learn to communicate: "do you feel attracted to me?", "are you into this?", "can I do that?".

I am a man...I don't get it either. I've never been like that. If I want to seduce a woman, I listen to them and respond accordingly. I keep my eyes on her face. I might do one quick glance head to toe and give a little half smile to see how she reacts. See how her feet are positioned, check posture, what she does with her arms and/or hands. Don't brag about yourself. Try to avoid telling them they're pretty, beautiful, gorgeous etc. If they are, they likely know it and hear it all the time. Try to find a feature that isn't on her torso like her hair, smile, or laugh. If she has her nails done that's a good one. Guys don't typically compliment such things, but women get manipedis for a reason. They want people to notice. Try to find a creative way to compliment her. Not just you have pretty eyes. I hope I'm not being too forward by saying this, and I'm sure you hear this all the time, but I think you're eyes are absolutely captivating. Get a thesaurus y'all. If she's interested she'll let you know. If she's the shy type there are still signs to look for. It ain't that hard.
I know, it's so boring when a guy goes to someone he knows is a "conventionally beautiful" woman and says to her "you're so beautiful" as if she just left her cocoon and was waiting for this one guy to say it.

The persistence here is qualified by the fact I said no. I'm not saying to generally not be persistent. Some women enjoy being chased. If they say they don't, don't assume they don't know what they want. Walk away, if she's really covertly interested and knows you're interested, she'll follow up.

i'm reminded of one time i got cheated on by a girlfriend. i asked her why she slept with him, and she said "he was just really persistent"...
obviously i broke up with her. but, i think that a lot of men think that if they are persistent enough, the girl will give in and sleep with him just to get him to go away. i don't agree with this, it's gross. but, yeah just another thing to mention.
maybe next time, after you've said no and he keeps at it, get agro, and say, "dude, FUCK OFF" lol
[–]gangweedsavedme 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You assume all of them were hitting on you, before and after acting uninterested. Youre also generalizing men as socially oblivious based off the men that decided to engage you, who didn't assume you were uninterested until you made it clear. Maybe extroverted people will continue engaging you, and won't assume youre uninterested until you make it clear. The way you described yourself gives me the impression that youre introverted, so perhaps this phenomenon can be explained by a clash of differing personalities in regards to social enthusiasm.
For example, another introvert would be less likely to continue engaging you, or approach you at all. Where as an extrovert would seem more interested due to the nature of their socially enthusiastic personality. It's also possible that they were extroverts trying to get to know and/or seduce you too tho.

This is some kind troll post.
It is like 'Why birds fly?", or "Why women say one thing but mean another?"
In any case will give you an explanation:
You are attractive woman almost naked lying alone on the beach. So, obviously guys will want to chat you up.
There is a reason why muslim women have to wear hijabs and burkas. Any naked flesh or even slim silhouette of the women can make a guy excited.
[–]B3asy 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
OP was asking why men are persistent, not why men approach attractive women.
And women should not be punished because men can't control their sexual desires
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes exactly. I'm aware that men are often drawn to my appearance but I was focusing on the interactions.
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Uhm, I can appreciate men lying almost naked too. I could even approach one but then I'd register what they're saying to me and modify my behaviour?
Feels sad when men are reduced to unintellectual animals just because we have hormones, most people are sexual beings not just men.

Nah you can score if you’re persistent enough with some women who play hard to get. I’ve tried to pick up the girl of my dreams when i was younger. Took me almost 4 years. We’re together since 2014 and next year we’ll be married.

Speaking as a male....men are dumb. We don't understand social queues or women's behavior until after 35 years of living, maybe even beyond that for some.
But the need for validation and constant urge to reproduce can cloud a man's mind, effectively shutting down logical thinking.
For example: If I see a pretty girl, should I say something witty? Should I just move on and wonder what could have happened if I did do something? And if she was kind enough to tell me she's not interested, but her body language made it seem like she was(I thought she winked at me) should I try harder?
This, along with knowing women usually don't pursue and do care enough not to shatter a man's ego, make it a delicate waltz in perplexity.
Not to say any of it is your fault. You don't deserve to be harassed for just chilling at the beach. You just may need to be firm but patient with most of us boys.
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
"A delicate waltz in perplexity". Literacy 😻
Thanks for showing empathy. I often hear women say stuff like "men are idiots" and so forth, based on their experiences, and it kinda makes me sad cause I don't like thinking that way. I really wanna give every person a chance to define themselves.
It's like when someone says "women care about looks" or "women care about status", "women are dumb". It's just hurtful.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You hit the nail on the head. Go get yourself pumped with the same levels of testosterone as a man and you'll see the effects of testosterone real quick, increased libido and aggression. That's why alot of people neuter male dogs, not just so they can't have puppies but for the effects it has on it's personality. I'm not saying it excuses the behavior of some men, but maybe a little empathy can alleviate some frustration you have for us.
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Are you saying we should castrate males?!
Nah, I understand! Wish there was a way to balance it all out. I do try to engage them in constructive conversation. Today someone insisted they'd sit next to me while I was sunbathing "so they (the other men) will see me and respect you". I had to disagree.
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Women are the way it balances out lol. If it wasn't for women's low libido we'd still be living in the trees too busy fucking all the time. As much as I like sex its really in all our best interests if women continue to be difficult.

[–]CoinTimeU 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I'm probably in the minority and I just like talking to women and don't mind being just friends. I think the rest of the guys you are dealing with feel like they have to try even if there's no hope because sometimes it feels like it's the last time you'll see a woman like that. Sometimes women mention they have a boyfriend and that's enough to make most guys walk away.
[–]bubblegummybear[S] 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Yeah I like talking to guys too. Even though I'm in a monogamous relationship, everyone's got attraction floating. A guy can be handsome and appealing, and we can have a nice chat and establish a purely platonic vibe. However, this usually doesn't happen if he's going a bit too hard or desperate with a goal in mind.
[–]CoinTimeU 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
If you can take it as a compliment , offer them advice and brush off the creepy feelings. I agree though, even as a man, if I'm at the beach, I'm there for the sun shine, water and solitude while still having people around.
Yeah like, enjoy your day! Don't make it about this one stranger lol.

Ever
Men get rejected 90+% of time, so they have to find their 10%
(% may vary based on looks)
Funny cause I met my boyfriend when I asked him for a lighter, we clicked. "EVER" seems pretty extreme and a bit incel style to me.
[–]member1465 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
And? You think asking someone for a lighter = making all the steps necessary for a relationship or even a hookup?
Even if the women approaches / signals interest strongly the man still has to take it from there and escalate. He has to proceed through all the steps.
Idk, I think this is a very narrow way of defining men and women. Almost textbook, but who wrote it? All men and women can and do behave differently. I think it depends more on societal and personal culture.
[–]PoMansDreams -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I tell this to my friends all of the time and I get the "NAHAHWH JUST bECAUSE SHe SAID SHE HAS A BF DOESNT MEAN SHE WONT GET GAMED AND CHANGED HER MIND" and it's fucking retarded.
Too many guys need to just fuck off when they are told. If you're not getting the results you want, then work on yourself more.

I get this is unpopular but I see a lot of excuses in here. To me it’s not cool and guys that do it should feel bad about themselves. [–]PoMansDreams 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There have been some great replies in this thread so far and many of them are the building blocks which make up the bulk of the answer to your question. I’ll provide one more block. Let me just include the disclaimer that although I’ve known quite a few men who have subscribed to this mindset, I am not one of them! This pertains to the part where you tell them that you are in a relationship. Some men are under the insane presumption that all or most women cheat. They convince themselves this is the case. Unfortunately, it seems that this tends to stem from experiences where these guys approach a woman to chat up, the woman says that they have a boyfriend and then still get with the guy after a little persistence. If this happens to a guy twice or more, it greatly enhances the chance that they will develop the warped perception that all or most women are willing to behave this way. Throughout my years, I’ve met a handful of dudes that have thought this way. Whenever they explained this line of thinking to me, it always made me smh, but there was no getting through to them.

Nobody approached you while worrying about procreation and the survival of the human race. I have never given a single thought for humanity while fucking a women. All I'm thinking about is what's the hardest spank I can land on her butt without going to jail, what will the next position be, and how many rounds will I be able to have before I collapse.

Two thoughts. The first is descriptive (how the world is and why you're experiencing this). The second is normative (how the world should be and how I think men should behave in this situation).
First the descriptive. Evolutionary pressure has made men and women sexually dimorphic and given them different optimal mating strategies. To oversimplify a bit, this boils down to the fact that women get pregnant and men don't. As a result, sex is biologically more costly for women than it is for men because women they are committing to a carrying a baby to term in a way that men aren't (again, I mean this in a biological sense and not a moral sense). Because sex is more costly for women, they have to be pickier in choosing their mates. And because women are pickier in choosing their mates and because sex is biologically cheaper for men, the optimal strategy for men to pass on their genes is to be bold and take lots of "shots on goal," to make a slightly crude analogy. All of the men who exist today are descendants of many thousands of generations of men who were bolder (sometimes annoyingly so) with women than their evolutionarily less successful male peers who didn't reproduce or didn't reproduce as much. This is part of the sexual dimorphism.
Now the normative. I think it's totally fair for men to approach you when you are alone, but they should abide by a certain etiquette and try really hard to read the subtextual messages you're sending. It's cool that in one of your responses you listed the hints you give to show a man that you're not interested. Men should spend more time trying to figure out what those hints are. I think men ignore them for a variety of reasons: they're selfish, awkward, slightly psychopathic/less empathy (men are more likely than women to be psychopaths and score lower for empathy in psychometric testing), lack of male role models, etc. I'm not sure how to fix that other than promoting new social norms for men that strike the balance between being bold and being considerate.
I imagine that if you were single and on the market you would appreciate it if an attractive man approached you and that you would find him more attractive for approaching you because it showed confidence. The trouble for men is that, upon approaching, we don't know if you are interested or single. Of course, as soon as we find out that you aren't, we should drop it gracefully and move on.
TLDR: Men approach you because it's adaptive (evolutionary advantageous) and they are annoying for a variety of bad reasons. Hopefully men and women can understand each other better in the future to reduce unnecessary emotional friction in flirting and courtship.

Because it works in a lot of scenarios, there are a decent amount of men/women who aren't loyal (based on rumors) and even after saying no a few times will still sometimes give in. Chances are a number of the guys you dealt with have either heard stories or experienced what they were trying to do working before so they figured it'd work again.

Because most women operate covertly and are not as direct as men are. Especially in the US. I cant tell you how many times I have eventually gotten laid when initially the girl wouldn't even give me the time of the day. Ironically after the sex a couple of them would say they never thought we would end up having sex when I approached first. I am not sure where the line crosses into being annoying and harassment, but from my experience personally three times is the limit. I used to stop persisting after the third signal.
Also the signs that you listed are all part of what we call the "hot girl blase" in seduction with really attractive ones. That is how they react no matter what
I think we should teach young girls that it's okay to have agency, to know what you want instead of having someone walk you through it. We should teach young boys that consent is important, that everyone has choices and that rejection is okay.
[–]spacenuts09 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
See when you want to teach something you will put things in black and white and attraction is anything but. Thats my biggest issue with "teaching" consent. The sexual dynamics unfortunately is forever doomed to be gray. The masculine traits that make a man masculine do not revolve around consent or asking for permission in any kind of way. You can see for yourself what the young girls are attracted to at a hotspot like a spring break location or sixth street in Austin TX.
I believe masculine traits are fully compatible with consent. Men issue consent, men may be coerced, men are also victims of sexual assault. Different cultures teach different versions of masculinity. BUT sexual dynamics are not grey. Healthy sexual dynamics are clear when aided by communication. I don't think spring break is a good platform for the analysis of healthy, fully informed sexual relationships? I might be wrong.
[–]spacenuts09 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Let me rephrase my point. Masculine traits don’t revolve around asking for permission or consent. They do revolve around knowing what the girl wants in the first place. They revolve around being confident enough to know and pursue what girl you want and being socially savvy enough to innately know where the boundary of harassment is. There is little to no sexual attraction left after the guy asks if she would want him to kiss her. That’s what I’ve found. Most men on here do not struggle with being nice, they struggle with being not attractive enough - and that can be changed with proper understanding. In a nutshell if you start “teaching” men to ask for consent you would not only be preaching to the choir but end up making it even more tougher for the guys who struggle with attracting women in the first place. I’m not condoning any harassment type behavior but just saying the solution is not something as simple and straightforward as teach consent. It’s complicated cause sexual attraction is complicated.

Hollywood romance movies:

Ego. The human brain will fracture if trauma becomes too great. Testosterone in high doses is a polarizing chemical that propels men to be brash and uncalculating. Put those two forces together and you have a freight train that can't understand why it needs to slow down for the bridge out up ahead.

Im sorry this happens to you. It probably has something to do with mens nature, as you said, and as well as just societys influence. Women do this too, but in my opinion this only really happens when they‘re really in love with someone, not just strangers. Where guys more so do that to complete strangers that theyre really attracted too. There‘s also the part where women usually won’t approach guys, so you’ll rarely ever see this happen in public. More so happens in private where a crazy ex won‘t leave you alone. This is just my experience, could be total non sense so take it with a grain of salt.
I oftentimes don‘t even wanna approach girls because I dont wanna make them feel uncomfortable or cause them to just give me a fake number because they‘re afraid I won‘t take a simple no. There‘s also some girls that like when guys chase after them if that makes sense. Wether they simply enjoy the attention or they want to see how far someone is willing to go to make you theirs, some women do that. Maybe even some men, who knows.
[–]philblock 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I have been always curious about human nature. With regards to women, I am almost always right. My best friends are amazed some time. For example when we go to our pub. We play the observation game for fun since we are all married we no longer chase women when we go out we just catch up and randomly pick out 5 women to watch them either reject or accept the men that presue them that night. I won’t go into how I learned it but I’m not only undefeated I am almost always right.
That sounds interesting! From the experience that I recount in this post, I can say these are the common traits of the two guys to who I spent some time chatting:
- Good listening skills
- Appropriate distancing when interacting
- Kindly asked for my contact details
- NO CATCALLING (gosh, guys who think they can whistle their way to a woman!)
- Deffo well-groomed, not a specific "type"

Men have to be persistent because most women will not initiate the dating process. The most a woman will usually do is give a man cues or hints that he should proceed in hitting on her, and frankly those are almost impossible to read correctly
[–]SaltoDaKid 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Most dudes stay around cause they need girl see who they “really are” and see how much of “nice guy they are”. Dude are always creep, it’s in nature of most weirdos get the girl by any means. Which why if they don’t leave I say take picture of them and tell them you will send this to your cop dad if guy keeps harassing you. Or call a friend and say hey I’m calling my boyfriend he should be on his way back.
[–]Artist-in-Residence- 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well because, man or woman, being persistent often gets you what you want. The vast majority of people don't even understand nor know what they want, hence this gives you a perfect opportunity to convince them of what they should most desire.
There is a soft no or a hard no. A soft no invites dialogue and conversation, and most of all, persistence. A hard no takes a little more patience and strategy, a willingness to be more humorous and get the other person to drop their armor.
People who are persistent also tend to be emotionally intelligent, understanding the intricacies of human psychology,
Elevated testosterone is correlated with criminal behaviors- an inability to access the higher functions of the frontal cortex as elevated testosterone is linked with direct access to the amygdala bypassing the analytical functions of the frontal cortex, not that they lack empathy.
So I have to say, you are wrong on all counts.
