When is the appropriate time to stop pursing a girl in a set?

Approached a girl on saturday night and asked "how her night was going." She gave a one word answer and really was not making eye contact

Next I made a comment about her drink and how that was reflective of her personality. She gave a one word answer, but this time took some time to look at me.

Then I commented on her outfit and once again she gave a one word answer and was not opening up in terms of conversation. I decided that she was not interested and left.

I am not sure if I should of kept pursing or was best to end the conversation? Essentially at what point should I stop pursing a girl? If her body language is defensive or her conversation was lacking then should I leave? I could of kept pursing and made some cocky comment about "how she is a talker" or "seemed distracted" or said something random.

Serious question: how can I let loose in a club if my muscles are so stiff that I just can't move smoothly? I know it's a problem with letting off but I don't think I'll get comfortable with dancing without dancing - and now I cannot do this, I hate clubs because of that.
