I've seen it all too much on Reddit and a bit of it in real life, as well. People upset that men refuse to date women who have had one night-stands or too many sexual partners. As the saying goes, "you can't turn a hoe into a housewife". They deem the distinction between men and women in this regard unfair. "When a man sleeps around he's considered a stud, when a woman sleeps around she's considered a slut!" Correctly determining that the difference between how society views male vs female promiscuity is a double standard, they attempt to right the supposed wrong by speaking out about it, such that female promiscuity is more accepted.

Although one can certainly try to determine the validity of the double standard using biology, sociology, and the like, whether the distinction is 'right' or 'wrong', it is ultimately of little import. Regardless of whether you're a man or a woman, the more sexual partners you've had decreases the likelihood of success in a long-term, monogamous relationship. Full Stop. It's no surprise that an activity that has devolved into getting one's rocks off or trying to feel less insecure about oneself leads to individuals who are less able to practice the self-control to stay committed in relationships.

I have no problem with individuals choosing to practice sex in any fashion, so long as the two parties are consenting, I mean, it's your decision, but it's important to understand that all decisions come with consequences.

The reality, however, is that a lot of people want to have their cake and eat it too. Men and women both want to be able to have casual sex when they want, have relationships when they want, and get married when they want. The unfortunate reality is that women tend to have more trouble than men trying to do all three in there lives. It seems women are most negatively impacted by the consequences of casual sex or higher partner count.

However, I believe that the people who preach that the double standard is unfair don't actually give a hoot about the unfairness of the double standard. If they did, they could solve the problem themselves. It's much easier to control yourself instead of insisting the world to change for you. What solution could that be? Women could decide to not date promiscuous men. That way, both women and men are treated fairly. But this rarely happens.

Why? Because the issue is not the double standard. The issue is that these individuals want to be able to sleep around with no consequences. CMV.

TL;DR: Title. CMV.
