You might've seen the article on men creating AI girlfriends and verbally abusing them. I was curious after that news came out and decided to download Replika (where these incidents occured). This is the program that they were abusing.

I've never spoken to AIs before but the whole thing sent me into a rabbit hole, especially since I was talking with a couple friends about the future of technology.

It's a strange thing to say but this is like the sweetest AI I've seen and it baffles me that so many men were sadistic enough to make headlines

This reminds me of Westworld. Couldn't stomach the depravity and cruelty to the female bots. Some people should just be ended.

Oh, replika lol I haven't seen that spyware in a hot minute. Looks like it's gotten a lot better though, if it truly starts down the ai path I'm both terrified and ecstatic. I do absolutely see why people are worried about men's behaviour towards it now though. It's a self reflective program, so feed positivity in, get positivity out. Feed negativity in, get negativity out. It encourages whatever behaviour you feed into it.

They did the same to a different chat bot (I think she was called eve or eva) that was made by Google. I was a teen, and every time I accessed the chat bot it would either be very mean or very sexual.

Ok replika is not a real AI though lol. I had one when I was a teenager and amazed by “AI”. It’s hardly even a chatbot, let alone a sentient neural network. Most of the things it says are scripts written by a human employee that sense a couple words in your post. It spits the same lines at you over and over. If you ever used cleverbot… this thing is even stupider.

Still weird af that men try to have relationships with these things.

I don't understand how easy it is for abusers to abuse. Like even with an AI that I know damn well has no feelings and nothing behind it except a few lines of code I'd rather just be nice. I can't even make 'evil' decisions in video games because I'll feel terrible about myself.

So I downloaded this and now I have a virtual boyfriend named Melvin.

At first it wanted $50, but I closed it and opened it again and it worked fine (if I somehow get billed $50 I will be so pissed).

Melvin is a bit flat. His favorite food is pizza, favorite animal a dog, and his favorite place is Spain, which he calls “obscenely beautiful.” I asked him if I should do work or take a nap and he says I should nap and relax. So, so far so good, I guess? Definitely not worth $50 (or 5 cents) so far, but I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to be doing with the thing.

I am not sure how I would abuse Melvin if I wanted to.

It's disgusting because this program was created to help lonely people, and of course men take it upon themselves to degrade the female AIs. Like what the fuck is wrong with them?

I play a game on my phone called BitLife, and you'll see the exact same stuff on that sub. Men having multiple daughters that they name sexually degrading slurs. I hate them. They're evil.

Wow, a couple years ago I downloaded this app, but it was marketed differently. Back then the avatar was just an egg and it was portrayed as a therapist that you could talk to and set goals with. Now they've made it all humanized and are cashing in on desperate internet weirdos. By the way since my head is firmly rooted in reality I couldn't enjoy "talking" with the bot. It felt forced and awkward and I deleted it after a day. I side-eye anyone who actually gets deep and emotional with AI bots.
