What is opinion about women who choose to get In Vitro Fertilization and an anonymous sperm.xonor to have children without a boyfriend/husband?

The only positive I see is that the baby is desperately wanted and to my best knowledge the process is quite lengthy and includes psychological evaluation. In that aspect it’s far better than a couple having a child they never wanted.

That said, I’m generally against IVF and surrogacy.

I think people should adopt rather than create more children if they can, but that really goes for all couples as well and anyone who wants kids really. In general, I wish people would rather want to parent and raise kids that doesn't have parents that already exist rather than create a totally whole new person when there's already so many kids out there in need of good homes. It's the same way I feel about Pets. Adopt don't shop.

Probably because the child is wanted enough to go through all that and has the means to pay for it, the child will probably be more loved and cared for than any number of “oops” babies in the US.

I agree that it’s not ideal, but if she is emotionally and financially stable it’s better than a married 20 year old with an unwanted pregnancy, a shotgun wedding and a contentious divorce in her future. At least the baby is desperately wanted, planned and will be loved. Hopefully she will have good male role models (uncles grandfathers) lined up that will be able to spend quality time with the child especially if it’s a boy

It’s their body let them do what they want. Most kids are not born into perfect conditions. We live in a country where we don’t have free healthcare, something like 1/3 kids go to sleep hungry everyday, etc.

I’m not sure about the father aspect but kids far off better in 2 parent homes, not sure if it’s gender specific. A tribal esq family system also helps tremendously with bringing up a child. Where big families are there and there are always people helping each other out, instead of daycare they go to a family members house.

Doesn't affect anyone else, why should it matter? If the kid has at least one parent that loves and wants them, they're better off than a decent percentage of kids with 2 parents.

I don't agree. I think social shame is the only issue. if society didn't glorify the need for a father then it wouldn't be an issue.

I remember a passage from one of bell hooks' works where she describes the parenting style of this single mother: she tried really hard to raise her son with all the masculine bull, and so she prevented him from expressing his feminine side - plenty of fathers do this too.

If we ignored the social rubbish, then it's just a question of money!

This woman could be a lesbian, and so have the two incomes (so is not about a male figure just about a working human), or she could have a fantastic job and that's that.

This is not a "replacement of men"!

That doesn't even make sense, her life, her choice, she's not obligated to be with a man just to ensure male ego isn't bruised.

being a single mother by choice is child abuse and should be prohibited by law. These women want children for selfish reasons, for them at the expense of the child. children need fathers and will inevitably suffer and have mostly unsuccessful lives because of all the mental issues it causes. If I meet a woman who admitted to this, I would punch her in the face.

If she can afford to pursue IVF and has the resources to bring to bear to be an effective single mother, more power to her. Curiously, this type of single mother is one who I might consider dating were the child young enough and were she still wanting biological children. But since it’d be weird to publicize this on dating apps, that’d never really happen.

Not in favor of any situation that starts off with a child growing up with 1 parent. Having 2 parents is more conducive to growing up in a loving, stable household and becoming a well-adjusted individual.

If they can adopt as single parents, I don't see why they wouldn't just do that. One good parent can make a real difference to a child who's been in care but creating a child in a less-than-ideal situation that otherwise wouldn't have been there is a detriment. It's up to them though at the end of the day, I'd just advise thinking about how good your circumstances actually are for a child before having them.

Nowhere near the top of my list of concerns. On a gut level my inner misogynist wants to lambast the strong-independent-woman-who-don't-need-no-man aspect to all this but given the hoops one must jump through to have such a procedure not to mention the cost I'd say the child, at a minimum, will be wanted and provided for. So at the end of the day not my monkeys, not my circus.
