This is not a sub where people sympathetic of men's rights or "edgy opinions" are usually found.

It's a very left leaning science / data sub where people were posting and analysing data about police shootings.

People were looking at the fact that it wasn't just black people, it was black men, and that in fact it was men in general being shot disproportionately by the police.

One post I saw was someone asking about this data but worded in a very "did I miss something?" manner. Like he assumed he was wrong and was looking for someone to tell him he was wrong. It was like he had found something he wasn't supposed to find and needed someone to rescue him from it.

That post was deleted.

If you go on ceddit or removeddit, these posts are being deleted within seconds of them being posted.

And trust me I understand the issue of "whataboutism" and the fact that people are very insensitive about this issue right now. I do not want to take away from BLM and neither did the posters who had their posts deleted.

But I think it is absolutely insane that people's honest questions are being censored over there. There's nothing wrong with having a small data driven discussion in a sub that likes to talk about data. This level of censorship is plain over the top and honestly I think Reddit needs to do something about it.

Black women are higher on the oppression scale than men so you can't report on black men. You have to stop at black people.

Same reason you can't speak up about men's issues in general, because women are higher on the victim scale so their issues are way more important than men's and bringing up men's issues makes you a sexist.

Look at the intense negative reactions that "men's rights" and "men's rights activists" get on Reddit as an example.

Some nuance here, folks.

Black Lives Matter was started because of Trayvon Martin and it was started by three black women. Consistently if you look up anti-misandry posts from women online it's usually coming from a black woman. Black women march at the drop of a hat for black male victims of police brutality and murder. Black women had our backs, supporting black men back when black men couldn't even get a hope of employment in the early post-slavery years.

Black women, meanwhile, get largely ignored when they're the victim of police killings and beatings. They don't march too much for them. Sandra Bland was murdered in jail and no one marched for her. There's Breonna Taylor, shot dead by cops who raided the wrong house and caught her and her man sleeping, and many others.

Black Lives Matter can reasonably be called a de facto men's rights movement, or at least a black men's rights movement, fueled largely by women as well as men. Black women victims need more attention.

This woman is technically right, black people are being killed, even if most are black men. Remember what we MRAs like to say... "this isn't a game of oppression olympics"? Welp, that holds just as true between black men and women when it comes to police brutality.

If morals don't mean anything to the gentlemen here, then it's worth considering that as a black man you have allies on the other side of the gender aisle, lot of them, and cultivating them helps your cause. Allies are what win wars. Speaking from a selfish, cold-blooded mathematical and strategic perspective, we can't afford to ignore the plight of black women. We need their help. Black men serve themselves by standing with the black women who are standing for them.

How about:

1) how many other cops have as many complaints against them and are still cops?

2) who reviewed all of these complaints against this cop and decided he could still be a cop?

3) were any of these complaints ever brought to the attention of the mayor or DA? If so, hold them accountable at the ballot.

4) these complaints should be reviewed by a committee that includes citizen representation.

If you really want to fix the system, start asking these kinds of questions of every mayor, chief of police and DA in every district and precinct across the nation. Keep asking until you get acceptable answers. This would be far more effective than protesting or rioting.

I am fascinated by what is going on in the US at the moment.

To my mind, yes, I am sure there is discrimination going on here. Not by far as much as BLM claims (as activists of all stripes always exaggerate), but still.

But I submit that race is not the only factor - in fact, not even the most important one. Here are, ranked by importance, the factors that I think I would take into consideration when caring for my own safety:

- Number of people, physical build, and overall situation;

- Gender (I am rarely afraid of women physically);

- Age (I am rarely afraid of people over 40);

- Dress and ostensible socio-economic status and demeanor - signs of intoxication;

- Race (from dangerous to innocuous: African Americans, Latinos, whites, South Asians, Jews, East Asians).

So yes, race matters, and I assume that what makes me wary of my own safety also make the police jumpy and in some unfortunate and horrific cases prone to overreact. But gender, age, and class are much more important - I will always be much more afraid of a white junkie than a black businesswoman (or man for that matter).

This particular incident was indeed egregious, and I think it is important we honour the police for their important work overall while severely sanctioning cases like this. But there is, statistically speaking, a serious problem of police violence in the US that far exceed other countries with similar crime rates - it is systemic and something needs to be done, though reducing it to race only and rioting might not be the best solution.

It is definitely okay to point that fact out and I've heard many people in BLM say that black men are at a higher risk.

They're unifying and speaking out against the death of so many black people, including Breonna Taylor who was killed in her sleep.

Why are we divided about these things rather than unifying against all violence? We are focusing on black lives right now, because there's so much evidence of police brutality against nonviolent and sometimes handcuffed people who are being targeted by the cops.

The thing is, it’s everyone that police kill. Police are in the vast majority of cases, doing good work, and keeping communities safe. Then there is that one asshole, who abuses his or her power, and end up killing people. It’s everyone, white men, black men, white women, black women, people of all races (although the vast majority of victims are male) I think the solution is to jump more quickly when there are abuse of power complaints against officers.
