First off, they usually are. “Gold digger” is a very common term. It also kinda depends on how old you’re talking. A 50 yr old man with a 22 yr old woman? He’s in control. An 80 yr old man with the start of dementia with a 40 yr old woman? She is.

This can be confusing to discuss because some “sugar babies”/“gold diggers” are really naive young girls thinking they’re gonna make money but getting used in exchange for trinkets, then other times they are straight up scammers looking for vulnerable old people. The second scenario actually happened to someone I know’s elderly father, she had to intervene before this woman took off with all his money. I also know of older women who have been scammed by men this way. I’ve noticed usually these scam artists aren’t super young, 30s and 40s, target lonely people 60+, and often are from a different country than the victim. Your typical “sugar baby” is 18-25 and her “sugar daddies” are middle aged married guys who know exactly what they’re doing.

also both parties r not stupid. The man wants a hot young thing to have fun with and have sex. And the woman wants money or maybe whatever connections he has? I think for the most part both parties are aware of what’s going on. But there are also age gap relationships that are genuine connections. Of course there are exceptions on both sides. Some of the women I know who do that are a tad manipulative, but the guys still knew what they were getting into (like one person). Most women I know who do that (like 4 or 5) do it because they don’t have financial support from their family anymore and are trying to make it through college or life. I know one who has medical issues. Most of these women aren’t out here to evilly scan men, they see an opportunity in the market, even if it’s dangerous, to make money off of their youth. People know what they’re getting into. I would prefer a world where people don’t feel like they have to do that to get by.

They already are. There’s a lot of unkind choice words used to describe those types of women already. That’s for a reason. What it seems like is that you want women to shame them to the same degree and with the same fervency that men do. It’s not going to happen. Same as how men don’t shame promiscuous forever bachelors to the same degree women do.

People tend to have more sympathy for their own group even after wrong doings because they have a higher level of nuance and perspective than outsiders.
