I grew up being bullied, and continued to allow people to bully me (in fact, I encouraged them to "mocking is love" ) until less then a decade ago.

My life vastly improved when I decided I didn't deserve to be mocked.

There’s a limited number of cases that I remember but they usually have multiple insults inside. Like girls at my school would stood around me and talked for a good half an hour how disgusting I was for being a lesbian. I’m not even a lesbian. Or guys who followed me and discussed how they were gonna fuck me using all kind of slurs in the middle of the day on the street.

So there aren’t that many separate cases and I probably could count them if I wanted, but I can’t count insults themselves.

Right now, I'd have to think just to remember the last time that I've felt insulted. I don't really retain things like that for long. I'm glad.

Actually insulted? Very few times. Random racism or crazy ass men online spewing bullshit? Daily event. I don't consider that an insult. Insults hurt your feelings and you have to care them to be insulted.

No. I’ve been insulted a bunch. I was bullied for like 10 years. Nothing hurts anymore lol, which is probably why I’m a user of this sub as a woman. Women who don’t have a backbone won’t be here long.

What exactly do you mean by insulted? Verbally abused or just feeling disrespected? I feel disrespected by people every day for things some men would never even blink at. For example, I felt insulted when a person I didnt know intruded into a conversation I was having.

Your wife probably means verbally harrassed/abused, with words like b!tch, stupid wh0re, told to her by complete strangers, which doesnt happen all that often in polite society.

I’ve been insulted a LOT. Throughout my high school which had significant racism even from teachers and college even though it was more diverse people say a lot of weird/mean things….

And from men, insults are even the half of it. I’ve been spit on by men. I’ve had a guy grab and pull my dress so hard it almost ripped so he could try and expose my chest and shove money in there. On my birthday. I’ve had men blow up my phone sending over like 30+ texts calling me a whore and slut because I didn’t sleep with him (cus he was being weird) and had a higher body count. I’ve had guys blow up at me and scream at me for not having sex with them.

Men have called me every insult in the book. Men never acknowledge this because they don’t care and don’t have a frame of reference for empathy besides their own struggles. Which is fine, but yes, as a woman, men can insult you a lot and in fact, can like doing that to women.

I’ve even had men bully and insult me all throughout high school just to reach out later while in college asking to have sex.

I did live in an area where misogyny might’ve been a bit more prevalent. Maybe your wife just didn’t date or interact with a lot of people? Maybe she had a more privileged life, maybe she’s more attractive to a broader range of men. Idk.

Women insulted me too but it was much more superficial and way less threatening in all cases. Usually more superficial or less deep insults or just passive aggressive behavior.

From men it was very character based along with superficial insults. From being called ugly to a whore that will never ever be a good partner or find one at that. To not being deserving of love. To being a bad person. To assuming im someone they can put their hands on freely.

Men aren’t the only ones who get rejected or insulted or made to feel bad about themselves.

Basically, never. Not in adulthood anyway, and really not a lot in high school. It was really rare to have an issue with anyone, let alone to the point of harassing and insulting.

It's hard to remember that long ago now, but if I had to guess, maybe 30 times, from 0 to 21? Then virtually never after that.

Do guys go around getting bullied a lot in adult hood or something? Lol

I'd guess it never happens, but men tend to have self-consciousness issues or dwell on one thing that happened one time.

I'm from the South. Direct insults aren't really our thing, at least not in the circles I grew up in. I can only recall being directly, unambiguously insulted once in my life.

Of course I'm not counting strangers on the internet, no one in their right mind gives a shit about that.

I went to religious private schools, an all girl high school - kids could be ruthless and mean.

Moved to a public coed school….teenagers can be ruthless and mean.

I worked hospitality and retail from ages 15-25. I managed a gift store during the pandemic (that was a fun experience). I went out with friends pretty regularly from ages 20-24. I’ve been actually verbally insulted so often.

Hell, I sometimes jump on overwatch with my fiancé and I am trash at overwatch.

Your wife is lucky to not have been insulted and I’m happy for her! I’d say her experience is unique however. I can’t think of a single thing I haven’t been insulted for.

Every aspect of my looks - teeth, hair, hands, nose, eyes, skin, the shape of my body, the width of my ass, my cheeks and my jaw and more.

Every aspect of my personality - my sense of style, my laugh, my jokes, my intelligence, my interests, my hobbies, my taste in music, my likes and dislikes, my ethics and morals.

In the same day last week I got called a “dumb whore” only for another customer to say “fucking know it all, you think you’re better than me?” (Ahh customer service).

It’s fine and it isn’t. The ones that hurt the most are the ones that echo what I think about myself. Otherwise it’s just uncomfortable.

Is it felt insulted or been insulted? I've been insulted countless times but I don't usually get that upset by it, I'm sure I've been insulted times when I haven't even thought it was an insult. Maybe your wife just doesn't get particularly hit by insults.

I was homeschooled, so most of it was my brothers, but regarding actual other people, there were a decent amount, including a long stint of bullying and a few situations of various men calling me a "slut" or "bitch" after I did/didn't do something (unrelated to sex).

Not going to count the internet randos DMing me, though. I post art online, so of course I get tons of internet randos.

I lost track but I grew up in abusive circumstances motivated by severe mental health issues on my mother’s side and strict Jehovah’s Witness religious beliefs on my fathers. On top of that I was a shit head so I have had quite a bit of negativity directed my way.
