Relax. If I'm overthinking something, I'm not relaxed. I don't know how many people on here are used to improvising in a musical sense, or just jamming, but the way to get something to sound good is by clearing your mind and letting everything flow. Whatever comes next will come.
Be fun. Yes, have fun, but more than that, be fun. I can't tell you the number of times I've gotten bored at a party and played "How long can I get this girl to continuously laugh?" Even if you're not having as much fun as you could be (and you're not doing the polite thing by leaving and not leading her on), making her have a good time leads to a successful night.
Recognize that she's in the exact same place as you are. The older I get, the more I realize girls aren't these magical, fun creatures who always are interesting and don't need you at all. They're just as boring as we are. They tend to have a whole different standard for what's gross (which you'll learn quickly when you live with them). And most importantly, she's on a first date with someone too. Nothing to be afraid of.

My tips for first dates are:

Put your fucking phone away. Call her out if she starts screen gazing while you're talking about your [skill/hobby/interest].
Don't drink too much. Coffee or The Liquor. The former will turn you into a rabid whirlwind of chatter, the latter will turn you into a drunk bastard, which is really rad, except you don't need that right now.
If you're not having fun, tell her. I've excused myself from dates and left in the middle because she's boring as fuck. Have some self-respect.

Always show up happy, with a smile. That can mean meditating beforehand if needed.
Always have a plan for the date. Go somewhere you have been before where you will be in your element, and you can be assured is a good spot.
Don't be afraid to escalate touch. Sexual jokes are also good.

Unless the girl isn't that attractive, or for some reason she's more desperate to have a boyfriend than most girls, this isn't really true. Most attractive women who are out and about enough to get approached know they have plenty of options and can afford to be picky about dates and whom they hook up with or enter into a relationship with. As such their attitude is usually more relaxed and "let's see what happens" as opposed to guys who are typically more "oh boy how do I do this right?"

Here's what worked for me (past tense since I've been dating someone exclusively):

Kino. Have you had a girlfriend before? Remember how comfortable you were touching her casually? Do that (well - don't molest her if that was your thing).
Conversation. You need to lead the conversation, but only participate in conversation about 20-40% of the time. Let her do the talking. When you DO talk, you have to be funny, flirty, use cheesy sexual jokes, and of course only do about half the talking out of your mouth. You're going to also have to talk about yourself. You better be passionate about describing what you do. I remember telling girls about my time in India, and how breathtaking the Taj Mahal was. I tried my best to use language to help her experience it - not just tell her what I saw. Also - use your body language and hands to express yourself.
Sexualize. One little "pro tip" that worked for me is picturing her naked and picture me nailing her. I try to imagine what her nipples look like, how they feel, I picture my self on top of her or her riding me, or me nailing her from behind...all while having a totally different conversation. This will help control your body language, the subtext of your conversation, and may guide exactly what you end up saying. Plus - it really helps shatter any lack of confidence you may have.

As my first first date wasn't that long ago, tips I carried into it that lead to a 2nd date were:

1) Have fun

2) Go with the flow- bounce off what she says, don't expect anything- I noticed on future dates I would replay beforehand how I WANTED it to go, realize that it does not match up- don't do this.

3) Touching, jokes- something completely absent from my end

Great convos, "nice guy complex" lead to a lack of a sexual vibe on my end which ultimately gave me my one-way ticket to the friendzone. All good though, learned a ton and gained confidence going into dates in the future- not so fearful of asking girls out and rejection, awesome!
