Direct Approach: “can I sit down here?”

Is this a bad thing to ask when starting your approach if they’re sitting at a big table by themselves

Or is it better to just sit down and start talking?

With the first way she can easily reject you and say “no you can’t sit here”

And it gives them a reason to end the conversation right away. But it’s also being respectful????
