In this thought experiment, you have stipulated a lot of 50/50 equal splits. What assumptions about unequal male behavior are you making that suggest men would get more in this experiment unless they 'improve'? What things would men need to improve to make things completely equal?

If the laws really did break it down like this, women would be VERY wary of getting pregnant and refuse to put out. Frigidity would be on the rise, both in and out of marriage. Why would women want to risk everything and their child's wellbeing? May as well go prude.

I think that contrary to what people say online, most men would not want to have 50% of the custody. To be fair I don't even know if women do. Or if it's even realistic in all cases unless they live close.

I also think that in reality parents see what works best with kids and try to make some deal that is the most convenient for all. A lot of divorced parents (anecdotally) seem able to cooperate and work things out. I know some people are fucked, but usually fathers and mothers don't want to take the other parent away from their kid or feel like celebrating for kicking the other out of their kids life.

The mere fact that having everything financially split and both parties morally accountable makes you think dating men as "essentially pointless" is an answer in itself. You basically don't engage in relationships with men for the sake of the relationship rather only for what these man can provide you. Take that away and LTR with men become useless in your mind.

The worst thing is that most women would probably agree.

The second worst thing is that the attractive men who can sleep around without any form of commitment are probably the only ones getting, if not love, the closest to a woman's affection.

Well aside from being a pipedream, it would likely benefit everyone, but personal responsibility is something that is abhorred and people actively run from it these days because nobody really wants it. Everyone is going to have to collectively put in effort. The less people putting in effort means that the weight becomes heavier for everyone else to carry.

Relationships between groups function similar as relationships between individuals. They both have to work together and "keep up" with the other because any slacking behind is going to result in more work for the other and less desire to continue if the workload becomes too great. The difference here is that where men fail (in the looks department), they can't help it, but where women fail, they don't want to change.

Also, men could opt out of parenthood like women are allowed. Men would be able financially divest (ie abort) themselves from their children in a similar timeframe that women are allowed to have an abortion. Oh, and gender would be a non-issue in physical confrontations. I think it’d take a powerful spell by the Sorcerer Supreme himself to achieve this though.

... in all real talk, though, people already murder their partners and children for financial gain. For all the shitty people that are now forced to participate in their unwanted children's lives, there'd probably be a lot more parents locking children in cars and pushing them into lakes. I am in a woman and I will be all for equal 50-50 if the following are also solved:

How are childbirth, pregnancy risk, and long term health consequences (vaginal prolapse, calcium depletion, stretch marks, high blood pressure) be split 50-50?
How are lack/ decrease in income of pre and post-childbirth be compensated? Many employers don't offer maternity leave and often it is not enough time to fully get back to pre-childbirth state (1-2 years)?

If motherhood penalty is solved, then sure, most women will have no problem with a 50-50 relationship. However, until motherhood can outsourced (ie. surrogacy) and the burden of household duties are split evenly, then there are needs for institutions to protect the rights of women.

Having a level playing field would make men much less guarded about getting into a long-term relationship. It might also mean that you'd significantly decrease, if not eliminate, the problem of every woman having thousands of men begging for her attention since the 80% of men who get ignored would be getting asked on dates instead of being expected to do all of the work and magically "know" which women would be open to talking to them.

The assumption that women date men only for financial reasons is stupid. Who would benefit from the end of Alimony and Child Support? Children. It would remove the financial incentives for fickle women (not all women are fickle), to walk out on their marriages. It would make it impossible to dump the boring father who makes decent money... take that money and then chase wife beaters and child molestors to introduce to your children. We don't talk about this stuff much but children of divorced moms are 40 times more likely to be abused.

Better families produces a better generation of kids... which improves everything.

It would make it so women are far, far less likely to "accidently" get knocked up by a guy she likes in order to get child support. It will also make it far less likely that she will just no fault divorce the guy.

As for dating, women would still date, they would just be more selective. They would be looking to get wifed up in their 20s instead of 30s. Because once they are married, the guy will be paying for the necessities.

Alimony is rare in the UK and usually a product of multi-decade marriage. Child support is encouraged 50% as a base, and there is no child maintenance with 50% custody.

So basically your answer for what it's like with these things is in the UK. There isn't a massive difference to the US, and the things that are different are down to a more reserved culture than these things.

Growing up Ive known some single mothers and fathers. None of which have received child support from the absentee parent (abandonment, buggering off to another country etc).

I mean, if men's only value to women is the financial security that they provide, and in your hypothetical we remove all of the ways men are required to provide financial security to women, then unless your scenario also includes women as a gender magically and immediately bridging the gigantic gap with men when it comes to the production of wealth, then it sounds to me like women would be even more inclined to date men (and on men's terms at that), not less.

No, things will get worse. No matter how much women say they want "equality", almost every woman wants to date "up" (i.e. date a man who makes more money than them, has a higher status, is dominant, etc).

Also, if everything was perfectly 50/50 and both spouses work full time, who would take care of the kids? I don't think it's ideal to throw every child in daycare its whole life. Ideally, one parent would stay home with it for at least the first few years, and that means one sex sacrificing their work.

I'm waiting for the day women pay the majority of taxes and stop taking the majority of benefits, it's rapidly approaching. A 50/50 split will never happen for anything, you can already see the effects of them having a better financial outcome in the job place than 30 years ago -- they run out of people to date as they only date up.
