The only time I’ve ever cheated is after my ex-wife withheld sex for >1 year then did mental gymnastics to make it my fault. Lucky for me I’m not sexually attracted to someone who treats sex as a “treat” for me to earn (lol). And I only “technically” cheated after I told her I’d give her the divorce she wanted and asked her multiple times if it was OK with her if I moved on while she slow-rolled the paperwork. So no, I don’t cheat because I just need to “spread my seed”. Take that back to FDS where it belongs.

Edit to add: men cheat because they either know you’ll take them back, don’t care about you, or don’t know how lucky they are to have you because you are a great gal and he’s a douche. Same reason why “chivalry is dead”... stop having sex with guys that haven’t continuously shown you they care and/or aren’t complete gentlemen and I promise the problem would disappear overnight

Not always sex, sometimes its lack of general intimacy or one partner just doesn't meet the others needs.

We have to basically commit in order to get a reliable supply of sex. Let me ask you something, honestly, lets say you've been told that, gee I don't know, cake is the best dessert on the planet your whole life. You've never eaten cake, but lets say, you've spent months or years trying to find a recipe or a bakery that sells cake. You try a bite, and you realize "wow, this desert is amazing." you savor every bite, every gram of frosting, every songy texture, everything. . Then, the cake is gone. You ate it all and now you have no more. You go back to the baker, and he says he won't give you more of THAT cake, but, he can give you stale week old cake, that doesn't have frosting once or twice a month, as long as you promise to never eat real cake again. You take it, since you figure it's damn near impossible to find cake again, and every time you take a bite of that chewy, flavourless sponge, you try to imagine that moistness of that slice of cake you once ate, the sweetness of the frosting. Then one day, you are walking down the street and see a new bakery, you go inside and just for jokes, you ask "do you ahve cake". And they say "yes, yes we do, would you like some?". Now, the average person who loves cake, would say "yes". Why? Because they have been so deprived of cake, it has been so inaccessible to them and they've desired it to the point where to them it's a need.

So, why do men cheat? Men cheat because getting sex in the first place is not easy. Men cheat because when they find a girlfriend or they find a wife, the quality of sex and the effort from her often times isn't what it was when they first started having sex. They are unhappy with their sex lives, and when they get a chance to taste that slice of cake again, they take it.

Not all branch swinging women cheat. Some will dump the guy before they start something with the new guy who they are interested in.

Men cheat because they are not at a stage in life where they are content with settling for monogamy, and they don't care enough about not hurting the women who they are currently in a relationship with, yet they also don't want to lose the sex and intimacy that they already have with her.

I think in more cases than not, regardless of gender, affairs/cheating really seems to be the result of a distressed relationship. Someones needs aren't being met and for whatever reason a resolution is just out of reach.

Why cheat instead of leave? Because you don't stop loving or wanting your partner. You hold onto the hope that they will have time to give you want you need, still can, and want to. You just have to survive a little longer. And then, out of nowhere as you die of dehydration in the desert someone else holds out water. You may not want their water, but you don't have the strength to say no.

These are situations are extremely difficult and trying. But seriously, it's a human issue, not a gender one.

I've never cheated on any of my 10 relationships (or 12, depending on what you consider a relationship), but now after a 6 years LTR, my longest relationship by now, sometimes I feel compelled to. I see hot women everywhere and I can't stop thinking about having sex with them. I crave sex with other women, having it with my fiance it's awesome but it doesn't cut it anymore like it used to be.

And I love my woman, I really do. I wouldn't leave her, never, and this complicates the things a little more.

I do feel guilty for just having the thoughs you know...
