Some are generally much easier to spot than others. It's one thing if you're theoretically let's say at your friends weddings or neighbors 4th of July. And random guys start talking to you and one of them straight up tells you things that are blatant red flags or no goes off the bat (saying he's in and out of jail, or a drug addict, or whatever) sp you know not to bother with him and you move along and let other men approach you. Softbois tell on themselves pretty easily and pretty quickly.

The scary thing is that some of these other types of guys are a lot harder to spot. Narcissists and manipulators are sly and good at pretending to be the nice guy and try to suck you in first. By the time some people realize they're already knee deep.

Other guys like the guy I knew from school (that seemed so nice and seemed HV and all my friends knew and liked!) Pulled a switch up on me. He took me for a really nice first date, dressed and acted all nice. Then on the 2nd date did a complete 180 was a slob, cheaped out, and had a potty mouth, and made no effort to make the date a good time.

The Jellyfish (sad, floppy cousin to the emotionally distant manipulator): The Jellyfish may look like a functional adult from the outside, but really he's a spineless blob. He's so afraid of conflict that he refuses to communicate about even the most basic issues. Instead, he broods and creates secret tests and manipulations to see what you'll do. He agrees to respect your clearly-stated boundaries but then ignores them. When you confront him about his behavior, he pretends to be "confused." And if he decides he wants to break up with you, he'll just check out of the relationship and wait to see how long it takes you to figure it out.
