It hurts to watch poor pickmes buying into a fairytale lie that being picked by a man is their happily ever after, and then ending up shortening their lifespan for it. This constantly pushed propaganda to look for and then keep a vampire leech of your energy and resources in your life as if it was mandatory, is crazy bullshit, and I'm glad more women are becoming aware and seeing it for what it is. Desperately looking for male approval is like being a volunteer toxic waste trash can. Never again.

There’s a comedian on Netflix, can’t remember her name, has a special called baby cobra or something.
She says in one special, her whole life, she wanted a man to provide for her, and she’d happily stay home and raise the kids.
This was shattered when she had a baby. She said she went back to work to get away from the kid lol.
She even said how it sounded so good growing up. Guess it’s a societal thing.

I was talking to my doctor today about this! She was asking when I would settle down and I told her men exhausted me and I just wanted to be left alone. She was like, certainly there is someone out there for you? Nope, sorry Dr. I don't think so and I honestly don't care. I love her, though she's amazing.

Yeah, the 'happily ever after' really is such a crock of shit. I fell for it in my twenties, and then past 30 I was like....'wait...I don't HAVE to get married and ruin my body with pregnancy and then be run ragged trying to look after a house and kids?' What is happy about that? It's misery and drudgery, and only benefits men.
I really laugh when people act as if being 35 and single is a bad thing. Yeah, I get to sleep 8+ hours a night, live in my own cute little apartment and have my own space, keep working on my myself, my wellbeing and happiness, travel to amazing places because I can afford it, spend my evenings out with friends, at the theatre or chilling out at home with a glass of wine and a great series.
Yeah, sooooo bad.
[–]CassieGreen85FDS Disciple8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Pfffttt my mom likes to occasionally say I MUST get married especially at my age (gonna be 35 this year!), like it'll be the end of the world if I don't.
Like sure I guess I need a bigger social network, which is good friends? WTF I don't need a man for that.
[–]MindeskaFDS Newbie12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I hate when women say it. It's so demeaning and insulting. As if getting married is the ultimate achievement. I hate how our culture still revolves around celebrating engagement, marriage and childbirth over almost anything else. At my workplace, women who get engaged get cards and flowers and presents. Why??? It makes no sense to me at all.
This year, I've gone from being a newbie at cycling to doing a 100km ride (with a lot of very steep hills!), I've had a promotion at work, won an industry award and passed an important exam in a language I've been learning, but nobody gives a fuck about any of that because women's achievements which actually require strength, motivation, determination and hard work are totally insignificant compared to a man putting a ring on your finger.
If you actually think about it, it's sick. I really hope things start to change.

If all women suddenly got aware and not bend to the pressure of the imaginary wall and family - men would treat us way better. That's the thing. Men do things like this because they're let to be low value, sometimes even rewarded for it.
[–]sailorstrongFDS Newbie258 points259 points260 points 5 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link
My sister's partner just walked out on her and their 18 month old baby she has been caring for solo for 6 months as he didn't get around to looking for work where they had agreed to move to (closer to me, and our family and where she landed a great job).
He says he's "no longer in love" and is going back east right now to "sort out where his head is".
Yup. For sure he was the one struggling while they were separated. Absolutely zero regard for what she has been dealing with, her feelings or the wellbeing of his fucking family.
Thanks fucker.
I love my sis to the moon, but now I'm going to be "stuck" playing a significantly more active role in their lives, for the baby's care and my sister's well-being. But it means I'll have to move, leave my city and my community. I will do this without qualms... But seriously dude. Your decision because you enjoy being single fucks over not only my sis, your child but those on the periphery as well. I am childfree, but wholly get the value of you need a strong support system to raise a kid. You have just offloaded alot of your parenting job onto me.
[–]CloacaDiddlerFDS Disciple77 points78 points79 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Honestly it kind of makes me day dream about a different society where kids are just raised by a community of women and the men fuck off to neverland. Less trauma on the kids for knowing their dad inevitably ran off. More support and a better environment in general because women rock. Men get what they want - zero commitment, responsibility, or consequences and they can disappear from everyone’s lives without any women damaging themselves to stay in a sucky relationship because they think the man will help them out.
Yes. Let me dream....men want to be obsolete so instead of begging and trying to force them to be functional members of family and society, can they just officially leave us alone and let women systematically be in charge of everything like we already are.

I went to the Women's Museum in Hanoi, Vietnam, and learned about certain matriachal communities in the north of the country, iirc. Mum is head of the household, with her children choosing to stay with her pretty much all their lives. They can have relationships in the wider community but no one is expected to leave home to set up home together. Any children they have stay with the mothers and are brought up surrounded by aunts, uncles and grandparents. Women pretty much make all the important decisions regarding the children, household, money etc. It was fascinating.

The preliminary research suggested that men often drink before the child is fed, usually once a day, sometimes more frequently, and for about an hour at a time. Thomas admitted that resistance could result in the women being beaten. "She can't say no because you become obsessed, it's hard to stop. If women say no, it can cause violence, it's a big issue," he said.

Babies often become malnourished and the mother has to buy formula milk because the husband takes all the breast milk. Women attend hospitals with severely bitten and infected nipples caused by the father. Babies can become ill because of infection from the man's saliva. It's horrific.

[–]iheartcookinPickmeisha™️9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I was worried my husband would feel this way but I think he’s relieved that he doesn’t have to pretend to pay any attention to me. I’m so In love with my son (not in a Greek-play sort of way just he’s my miracle cause we weren’t going to have kids and he just happened anyway) I just give all the love and attention that I was wasting on my husband, to my boy instead. I’m sort of more trapped now that I have him, but also I have someone actually worth all the love and energy. He’s 10x more loving and considerate and he’s only 5. Doing my best to raise him to be autonomous and keep that kindness that he has.
[–]HaveNoIdeaWhatToPickFDS Newbie7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It's good that the son is so kind, but I'm worried about his teenage years and how other boys will react to him. I hate how the good, empathetic guys are getting bullied for being "pussies" by other men and they most of the time end up bitter because of this. That's how generations of violent assholes never end. It's going to be him against the world, or him gaining approval by having the same state of mind.
[–]iheartcookinPickmeisha™️11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Totally right, but as my husband is a soft sensitive guy who cries easily, um trying to lay the groundwork in all areas including making him tough. I hope I’m doing it right. He’s growing up in a different world than we did, and from my teenage step-boys’ experience it seems like a more compassionate one. Thanks for putting it on my radar though, I’ll be vigilant about that. I want to send him into the world with both kindness and grit.
[–]GIfuckingJaneFDS STRATEGY COACH66 points67 points68 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I hate when people tell the guy, oh you don't need to stay if you fall out of love! There just no responsibility with these guys anymore. Its like they live their lives in 3-6 month increments. Every 6 months they are totally different people! So wishy washy. That's why I'm child free.

It means he has the luxury of having an inner emotional life he can idly feel sad about interpersonal & self actualization needs not being met (90% of the time dick not getting wet & doesn't care to notice he is running you into the ground), while you shovel shit 24/7
[–]GIfuckingJaneFDS STRATEGY COACH85 points86 points87 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I think its referring to maslow's hierarchy of needs. She's doing everything to take care of the bottom part of the pyramid so he can worry about self actualization at the top. The success of the world is built on the unpaid labor of women who make this possible for the men in their lives.

I used to think that I wanted to be a SAHM. Caring for the kids, keep a clean house, cook so my husband can have a warm meal when he gets home, just a perfect life in my eyes. I went to stay abroad with a family and was talking to the mom (she was divorced ex-SAHM with 3 children) and telling her about my plans and she had the scariest look on her face and said “don’t do that, that’s not a good idea”. Tbh I was delusional asf, and she was right. Being a SAHM is hard work (mentally, emotionally, physically) especially when you’re putting your financial freedom in someone else’s hands. Women who can and want to handle that have all my respect, but that’s not the life for me.
