Despite not ever intending to bring a man to my home after a first date, in addition to getting myself ready, I usually clean out my car, bless my kitchen/bathroom, empty all the trash cans, make the bed if it wasn’t done that morning, pick up any random shit laying around and vacuum all the carpets. So they want women to have smooth hairless bodies which costs like $70 for a brazilian wax, $50 for legs, $30 underarms.. takes over an hour. Neat eyebrows ($20 and at least 15 mins), whitened teeth, shiny styled long hair (takes me at least 30 mins to do my hair), wear makeup (15+ minutes)... and they are not even having a shower?

I'm not even gonna go into a long comment about how they even need to be told to CLEAN THEMSELVES but I will say my favourite part is somehow the cologne one just because he's pretending like he really knows what he's talking about. I mean, look at this grooming expert. First off, don't rub the scent, let it develop naturally. If you're gonna wear a perfume WEAR IT. Second, of course you should not overdo it. You don't want to be a walking perfumery. People should just be able to catch little pleasant whiffs that don't bother anyone here and there. But every cologne/perfume is not the same so he shouldn't act like there's only one way to apply. Their projection and longevity is not all the same. A strong spicy woody wintery fragrance is not the same as an light aquatic fresh one. But why am I surprised, this is a person who has discovered lip balm in adulthood.

Growing up, my parents would always harp on about most people didn’t wash. I didn’t believe them at the time, but the number of posts I see on Reddit about a woman complaining about her partner’s hygiene is ridiculous. I spent a lot of a time and money ensuring that I don’t smell bad. If a man smells bad, he’s instantly dismissed as a potential partner. I refuse to spend my life with someone who needs to be told how to clean himself.

I have met and dated many men who do not know basic hygiene. It is extremely alarming how common it is and has now become a “high” priority when looking for a potential significant other. I dated a guy who thought him getting his teeth cleaned by the dentist was enough once every 3 months. I told him thats not good and he didn’t believe me!? UGH I stopped kissing than dating him after that. Also as a hairstylist Ive met so many men who do not scrub their head while shampooing and just use bar soap! They also dont use conditioner. Neglect of basic hygiene is alarmingly high and why I have made it a deal breaker when dating men. Also, it seems when I confront men about their poor hygiene they use the excuse of “Im not gay” or in some way associate PROPER basic hygiene with being homosexual. Which is soooooo sad. Yet these same men expect women to have clear skin, gorgeous hair, smell good, completely shaved, perfect teeth, and that it does not smell down there whatsoever etc etc.

What is more incredible to me is that they tell them to do this for a date. NO, you should do it as a part of your regular routine! Is not that hard to make sure you're clean.

I mean this are just basics, I can't believe there are guys that don't do this everyday/often.

I remember growing up my cousins taking one or two showers daily, keeping a nice haircut, trim nails, they were so concerned about how they looked like and it was considered just basics, not a "metrosexual" thing. They are LVM fuckboys but not being clean was not an option.

Funny thing is they complain when "girls always end up with the fuckboys", well, that fuckboy is clean and takes care of himself, you're a mess.

I've been meeting one guy who has a bad odour problem and that sub keeps telling that I should be giving chances and bad odour maybe some other health condition and I could be empathetic about things

The guy has been lovely other wise and taken me out to such amazng dates. he s always around when i need help., maybe its just the initial phase .....

but I couldn't feel attracted because I made exceptions for a few dates , but the bad breath / odour seems to be persistent. what's the point of amazing dates if he can't even be hygenic?

I m usually a bit considerate about things pertaining to health considering we all have one health issue or the other..but hygenie is another department. I turned him down..and we re still friends, hopefully someday I'll slip it in slowly when I'm talking to him as a friend and not a date/ex date. ...
