I would have laughed off the first comment, but would have taken note to keep an eye out for other things he might say (for my own mental and emotional safety).

The second thing he said was downright rude. It sounds too much like the condescending way my ex used to talk to me. A HUGE red flag because if cya is more important than admitting that you didn't realize your joke was uncouth, that's the kind of guy I don't want in my life.

Wow he didn't text her sooner? First red flag was the delayed response. 2nd was that YESTERDAY was her birthday and he missed it completely, didn't even TEXT a "happy birthday" ... then he negs her and tries gaslighting.

I would have blocked if I didn't hear from him within 24 hours OR if he knew it was my birthday and didn't do anything (when you're just talking and haven't even met the bare minimum is him saying happy birthday and asking about your day)
