Only funny when it is ironic. I don't think anybody was laughing at the prison rapes in Shawshank Redemption or American History X.
I expect that if a woman that sexually abused children were made a bitch of some woman in a prison and frequently punished for crimes as much tougher than them as she was of the children she molested, people would find it amusing. Further, if she were killed through this punishment and humiliation, I think most would say "good riddance".
[–]fondueguy 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's because you saw the rape. The problem is that people won't connect the horrific scene to the prospect of some guy/boy being raped. They picture something else.
BTW, Norton was a racist murderer in the movie.
Further, if she were killed through this punishment and humiliation, I think most would say "good riddance".
Take a look at the slap on the wrists we give female rapists, or the excuses we give to women who kill their family members. Women commit 10% of murders yet they only make up 1% of those executed.
We have huge trouble saying good riddance to the worst of women.

That's because it were the good guys who were raped. If it were the bad guys you would have applause.

Which is separate from it being a gender thing. Correct?
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]RoundSparrow 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
look at how white women compare in punishment of any crime.... http://www.project.org/images/graphs/Inprisonment_Rates.jpg
The white woman is the icon of the American culture (Hollywood movies and TV, even music top lists)... Example: white men don't generally desire black women, but black men do generally desire white women.
Now notice just how few white women there are in prisons... in a society that seems to like to punish people - this particular group seems to really make very few errors - or get away with it (social manipulation).
That's why I bring skin color into the debate... some will argue that bias does not exist in law enforcement or culture... it's funny when the numbers show otherwise.
[–]thefran 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Incorrect. Only men suffer from rape culture in the first world, rape of women is always portrayed as unacceptable.
[–]adelie42 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Just because there is obvious strong gender bias doesn't mean that particular element has gender bias. Also, I'll agree with
rape of women is always portrayed as unacceptable.
but what do you mean by
Only men suffer from rape culture in the first world
Not necessarily disagreeing, I just don't understand the statement. Can you explain?
[–]thefran 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There are situations where rape of men is perceived as a thing beneficial to society as a whole and to the victim in particular.
This does not happen with women.
[–]oboedude 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think anyone could find humor in the irony and not give the tragedy a second thought.
[–]SaucyWiggles 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Why do you think it's marginalized?
Only in Hollywood do we see female rape written into a horror or thriller suspense film, but in comedies we see male rape.
[+][deleted] 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
[–]SaucyWiggles 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I was doing a bad job of trying to be hypothetical. I completely agree that rape / assault is marginalized, I just meant to imply that hollywood media doesn't help the situation by showing rape the way it does - with hilarity in regards to men, and extreme care in regards to women.
[–]fondueguy 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The three women were a bit more of a surprise to me.
It seems more rare for women to make light of male rape (though they can certainly minimize it in many many ways). It's also more shocking/taboo because women are the deemed victims of rape so they should show understanding.to men who are raped...
[–]potato1 -5 points-4 points-3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Do you have any evidence that suggests that feminists or women as a group are responsible for society's marginalization of the importance of male rape, especially prison rape? It's a logical leap from "male rape, and especially prison rape, is marginalized" to "feminists are to blame" and I haven't seen anyone fill in the gaps there.

[–]ButtonFury 59 points60 points61 points 12 years ago (31 children) | Copy Link
Correct. The fact that only women responded with, IMO, inappropriate comments is purely coincidental. I believe this issue to be a societal issue and not strictly limited to only a woman's perception.

By not consenting to sex and then forced to have sex.
[–]wolfanotaku 43 points44 points45 points 12 years ago* (17 children) | Copy Link
Well a number of ways.
Did you ever get hard in a weird situation? You weren't aroused but all of sudden you're hard. Well that's because getting hard is a physical reaction to stimulus. You will hear people here say, "an erection is not consent". So imagine that some woman has asked you for sex and you told her that you were not interested (let's say for example that you're married). Say she pulls a gun on you and holds it to you temple and forces you to lay down and then begins to rub her vagina on your genitals. She has already sexually assaulted you. But say that you get hard, because your body is reacting to the stimulus that you didn't want and didn't consent to, and then she forces you to penetrate her. hat would be an example of male rape.
But it also includes forced anal penetration, or if the woman in the above example forced you to perform oral. Not to mention date rapes are also possible (that is a man being drugged and then cajoled into sex).
Edit: P.S. Please don't downvote dickcheney777, he is asking a legitimate question and one of the reasons this Subreddit is here is to educate and bring things like male rape into the public eye.

[–]wolfanotaku 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I agree that my example wasn't the best.
Differentiating between kinds of sexual abuse is dangerous IMO. It tends to lead to conversations about what is "worse".
The comment made above by epsteinbarr puts it best I think:
There are plenty of men who project the masculine ideal that any female attention, especially sexual, is sought and cannot feasibly be forced upon men.
So perhaps a better way to answer your question would be, "A man can be raped by being forced into a sexual situation that he doesn't want to be in."
[–]SpawnQuixote 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
And quite irrelevant to the discussion. You must be a hell of a date raper, I mean sex is pleasurable and all so it's only a little rape.
[–]SpawnQuixote 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
I'm calling bullshit here totes!
Ok Troll-
When you wake up, your brain isn't saying sex, its saying boner and that's about it.
When you get sleepy and yawn you can get involuntary erections.
If someone rubs your cock and you are willfully not wanting sex, you will get a boner!
Just wait until you hit puberty, you will see.
Also, many women get wet and orgasm during rapes.

[–]RyanLikesyoface 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I think you might suffer from erectile dysfunction buddy, sorry but involuntary boners happen to all men, and it would be pretty easy to force a boner on a man. As someone said it is a reaction to physical stimuli, another man could give you a boner simply by rubbing it or stimulating your prostate even if you're completely straight. Other than that, it is STILL rape if some one penetrates your arsehole or mouth. Men can get raped.

[–]adelie42 31 points32 points33 points 12 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
More specifically, I think the humor comes from the irony. Would it be ironic if a woman broke into a persons house, but was then raped by her would be victim?
I think a lot of people would laugh, though it might be more of an awkward laugh depending on the circumstances.
I don't think it is gender bias, necessarily, even if people might "feel" differently about it.
I hate thieves, and while I don't would not condone or advocate the rape of anybody, I will laugh at their expense. Gender doesn't matter.
edit: ok, probably just me. I think there is a strong stigma against the idea of female criminals getting what they deserved. What if the robber and potential victim had both been female?

[–]ButtonFury 75 points76 points77 points 12 years ago (57 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. I think that there is a problem with our culture. The way that I objectify issues is by switching gender roles to see if the same reaction would be had. Obviously, in this instance, it would not.
[+]geodebug -31 points-30 points-29 points 12 years ago (44 children) | Copy Link
Obviously, in this instance, it would not.
People here at r/mr are way over-dependent on 'the switch the gender as proof' cliche. It's only a discussion tool but here you "obviously" use it as a straw-man argument.
Of course our culture all thinks the same so why even bother, right? We already know how everybody thinks so no need to ask them.
Instead, how about asking people what they'd think and then making conclusions based on the answers? If the OP knows these women then why not engage them in a friendly conversation about it?
I don't condemn these women because I also don't care that this criminal got the tables turned. That's totally different than thinking the rapist was in the right. Maybe these women feel the same as I do?
Plus, dude, it's Facebook. Odds are they read the title, joked because it was an unusual story, and then moved on.
Finally, for the record, I'd think it was joke-worthy if the genders were reversed. It would be very unusual for the burglar to be a woman in the first place so a joke about her fucking up 'men's work' is too easy.
I can still think rape is wrong but not really feel bad for this particular victim. I feel killing is wrong but I don't stay up late worrying about Osama bin Laden.

[–]CSIHoratioCaine -4 points-3 points-2 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
but then are you not seeing how when women say "men rape people", its the same thing as you (im assuming your are a man) saying "women laugh at male victims"
You are lumping women into a single category, like women do to men and thats the root of the problem.
[–]partanimal 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Okay, lots of problems here ... first off, you would make a HORRIBLE investigator of any sort ... I am a female.
Second, I would call out any woman who claimed "men rape people" if their implication was that only men rape people.
Third, I never said "women laugh at male victims" ... I said THESE WOMEN (who, in point of fact ARE laughing at male victims) would not be making the same jokes if the genders were reversed.
Fourth, no, I'm not.
And fifth, no, the root of the problem is when people find sexual assault funny in ANY situation.
[–]CSIHoratioCaine 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
sorry for assuming, thats why I mentioned it.
I don't know if you understand my point, or I did not make it very clear
I will try once more
If we imply that women don't take male rape seriously as a generalization, we aren't helping our hypocrisy standard of gender reversal.
Also, maybe they would laugh if the roles were reversed. I know I would, but I have a sense of humour, and while I appreciate that sexual assault is terrible, I do prefer the idea of it being done to someone who robbed someone over it happening to a more innocent victim, and I can see the funny side of that scenario.
[–]partanimal 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I appreciate you trying to clarify without getting rude and defensive.
But please, please, please note that I never implied WOMEN don't take male rape seriously. I very specifically said THESE WOMEN aren't taking it seriously.
I can laugh at some rape JOKES. But this isn't a joke ... it really happened to an actual human being.
And any time you start saying the victim "deserved" to be raped (in this case, for being a thief) you are justifying other people's opinions that some other person "deserved" it for being in the wrong place or wearing the wrong thing or something.
[+]geodebug -9 points-8 points-7 points 12 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link
Yes, it is sexist to think you know what women will think. Fuck man, use the cliche y'all hold so dear and ask if it would be sexist for a woman to know exactly how you think on every issue. Yep, just as stupid and arrogant both ways.

Oh give it a rest Judge Judy. If you've never laughed or joked at something inappropriate with your friends then you are either a liar (a la 1000 women) or a bit too gentile for the Internet.
Let's flip the script, exactly what are you defending? That you never have to ask a woman a question because you know what they think?
[–]partanimal 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
"Relatively significantly" only means that it does depend on what you characterize as "significant." I would not include the check-out girl or local barrista as such.
But combining primary, secondary, high school, and college; adding sports and extra-curricular teams/groups where you get to know someone pretty well; adding my family which has an oddly high number of females (out of my 6 immediate cousins, 4 are female, just as an example -- second cousin numbers are proportionally similar, but MUCH larger, 3 nieces/0 nephews, 1 sister/0 brothers, you get the picture.); and a large number of jobs over the last 12 years ... yeah, fairly significant relationships with these women, and it numbers in the vicinity of 1,000 (probably higher).
Would you disagree that MOST women would NOT joke about a woman robber getting raped? Really?
I still don't know who you are lumping me in with. I don't subscribe to MR and I'm not a man. Please clarify. Name the group you are lumping me in with.
You can call me whatever you want. I don't think people who laugh at ACTUAL PEOPLE getting raped are good people. I already said that I can see the humor in some rape jokes. And I didn't realize that the internet (especially reddit) is so predominantly Christian.
And no. Clearly that is not what I am arguing. My points are:
1 - it is shitty to laugh at anyone getting raped.
2 - few enough women will laugh at women getting raped that it is fair to characterize it as a true generalization that "women won't laugh about women getting raped."
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Commenting on facebook posts can get someone fired from their real world jobs, so anything done online is as serious as saying it in any other conversation.
Unless in the context of passing around insanely sick jokes, in the veins of racist or sexist, rape is never funny. Unless you are raping a clown. See what I did there? Rape is seriously not funny and it's ridiculous for you to think it's joke worthy for a criminal woman to try to rob a bank, the male accountant locks her in the vault, and then proceeds to use her for days on end as a sex tool. Or if it were a small time male jewelry store owner. Or anything else. And women are equal in all regards to be 'stick up' robbers. It's the gun that allows the man to commit the crime, not the size of the man when a weapon is involved.
Rape is always wrong for any victim. Anyone who says that a criminal who goes to jail deserves to get raped INSIDE prison is not a just person. The extent of the crime as punishable by the laws of the land are the limits to which someone should be punished. Do the crime, do the time. Not do the crime, get raped in prison until you finally get out/die.
You are not getting downvoted (which is the dumbest concept ever where you decide to say 'I got karma to burn' as if anyone gives a fuck) for just going against the grain in MR. I downvoted you specifically because you stated 'the switch the gender as proof' is too often used and cliched. Straw-manning my position into this caricature must be so comforting for you. The world is black and white. You're either with us or against us. Mind control, mind control, mind control.
[–]ButtonFury 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Your entire post is "TL;DR: Rape is funny". Most of your other arguments in this thread have been in favor of rape being funny. That is, essentially, your entire argument and you've been belittling others in favor of it. If it is not your point to convey that humor in certain circumstances of rape is funny, then, please, learn me in your ways.
[–]geodebug -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No worries.

They'll lazily brand me as a troll or worse, a feminist spy. I do care about some of these men's issues but don't see how this drivel helps anybody.
Thanks for the support though.
[+]geodebug -7 points-6 points-5 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Downvoting without rebuttal? Yeah that brings a lot of credibility to the r/mr agenda. Mods should ban the lot of you weaklings.
There are important men's issues that need attention and you posers can't even withstand a minor challenge to an overused cliche.
[–]Chowley_1 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
can't even withstand a minor challenge
I've been noticing this as well over the past few weeks. /MR is a pretty big hivemind.
[–]geodebug 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Sure, have to expect some hive think with any political/social movement. I don't begrudge r/mr that too much.
But the arguments can become lazy. Now, to be fair, maybe I just picked a really weak submission to challenge people on. The whole Facebook fake outrage isn't really that interesting to begin with.
[–]Chowley_1 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I too still think this is a great place, but most of the time alternate viewpoints are destroyed with downvotes. Those viewpoints should be raised up so others can see.
You can't get a full view of a situation by only seeing the opinions you agree with.
[–]geodebug 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yep, check out this comment. This guy proudly admits that he suppresses discussion by downvoting anybody who he doesn't agree with:
I downvoted you specifically because you stated 'the switch the gender as proof' is too often used and cliched.
[–]ButtonFury 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
The whole Facebook fake outrage isn't really that interesting to begin with.
Explain how this is fake, please, because this is very real to me. These are people that I know and have known for a very long time and I posted this screencap because I was appalled to see an instance of rape being LAUGHED at. I posted it to /mr because it's an instance of MALE rape and provides insight into societal views on the subject.
[–]geodebug 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I'm tempted not to respond since you reduced my point of view into a strawman on another comment.
But since you asked so nicely, why don't you just talk to these people instead of posting their conversation behind their backs like a passive aggressive teenager?
What do you want here? Not discussion obviously, that would require listening to differing opinions and learning that not everything is as cut and dry as you imagine.
If you actually talked to these women and then came back with the results of the conversation then it would be interesting to talk about:
A world of 'maybes' out there that explain perceptions and behaviors but you'll never know if you're too chicken to confront people.
That is why your Facebook Komic didn't impress me as genuine.
I believe you are outraged, but it feels manufactured.
[–]ButtonFury 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Because reddit is, somewhat, anonymous and I have no desire to argue a sensitive subject whilst using my personal identity.
Confirmation of my belief that what I saw is disturbing. That's all anyone wants, right? Confirmation that their thoughts, beliefs, views, and opinions are not unreasonable?
I can tell that you're a confrontational person, confirmed by your use of condescension in this very post that I'm replying to. I am not like you. The OP is genuine, yes it disgusted me, no it is not manufactured.
[–]geodebug 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I can tell that you're a confrontational person
I have a point of view and am willing to discuss or argue it. If people are polite I tend to be polite. If people are jerks or try to misrepresent what I'm saying then I become more agressive.
You purposely reduced my "rape can be funny in a certain context" to "rape is always funny" which is condescending so yeah, eye for an eye. You want polite discussion then be intellectually honest.
The whole rape thing wasn't even my main point. The original comment was talking about the overuse of 'imagine if the genders were reversed'. It's lazy, it's not proof of anything, and it leads to thinking in stereotypes.
Confirmation of my belief that what I saw is disturbing. That's all anyone wants, right?
And that's all I said, your post was attention seeking and passive aggressive. You're looking for a MR group hug (and you got it) not understanding or discussion. That's fine but don't be so desperate for everybody to agree with you that my one dissenting comment ruins it for you.
While I may understand your motivations, I think you are wrong to post your acquaintances' (friends, family, co-workers?) comments without at least talking to them first to give them the chance of defending themselves or clarifying exactly what they were thinking.
I am not like you
Exactly. I wouldn't do this to my friends, relatives, co-workers even if they said something that offended me. I'd either let it pass (some minor offense) or if I felt strongly about it I'd confront them on it.
Anyway, you seem ready to be rid of me so I should give you kudos for responding and keeping your end up.

Can you provide any kind of scholarly or academic feminist literature or authorship that indicates feminist thinkers actually believe these things or do you just have anecdotal examples from pop culture?

You can't win with idiots like 'potato1', they're so full of feminist rhetoric and social-science 'patriarchy!!!11' theory that they simply can't fathom feminists doing ANY wrong no matter how much proof is right there in front of them. They will blame any wrong feminists (or women) do as 'patriarchal oppression' (in order to shift the blame from women to men) and keep asking for SPECIFIC written literature. It's akin to the other feminists who read the definition of feminism out loud as if a definition or some theoretical 'literature' adequately describes the ACTIONS of a group.

As someone who has had many conversations on this topic, people have told me consistently that they believe rape is one of the most traumatic and emotionally painful experiences one can have. Whether or not I believe that is irrelevant, but since many of the people who have told me this have been women, I find it shocking that they would so casually laugh and dismiss something like this.
I fail to see how some could proclaim rape to be so traumatic and hurtful to their gender, but then turn around and laugh when it happens to someone else. I struggle to find an appropriate analogy, because it is difficult to word one that does not belittle rape victims, but here's my best:
It's akin to someone sitting on a plane and hearing a fellow passenger make a bomb joke. In disgust, that someone reprimands the passenger for promoting a culture of violence and that bomb jokes are not only unfunny, but disrespectful to the victims of terrorist attacks. However, somewhere down the line, after this person has left the plane, makes a bomb joke. When someone calls this person out on the same logic as before, this person dismisses it as harmless.
Is that perfect? No and it's probably full of gaping plot holes. Also, note that I'm in no way trying to compare rape and terrorism or to weigh one over the other.
Am I saying all women think male rape is funny? Not at all. Many women I talk to take the issue seriously and a few in particular say that the seriousness of sexual assault should not hinge on gender. But the fact of the matter is many do. And therein lies the problem.

I'll offer a respected critic of society. This time we are changing gender for nationalism... and skin color...
There is something strangely inconsistent about a nation and a press that would praise you when you say, "Be nonviolent toward Jim Clark," but will curse and damn you when you say, "Be nonviolent toward little brown Vietnamese children." [–]NotThat2 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No reason for you apologizing on their behalf. I read the comments and every other comment mentions that this isn't a women only problem, but society as a whole.
Also you're not accountable for what any group you happen to belong to does. Apologizing for other people's actions should be reserved for special cases.
[–]bohemianmichfestie 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It is just absolutely unacceptable that with all of the trouble we have with rape and the very troubling lack of support we get from men, that they would laugh (I'm not generalizing, it's just undeniable that the majority of rape cases are male on female and the majority of the time men ignore/sweep under rug). It's Very counter productive and someone has to play peace keeper. IMO men and women really need to band together and stop this violent crime, not ignore/belittle each other for it. Fortunately most men never experience rape and unfortunately society is very cruel to men who are raped with the whole macho expectation; which leads to lack of perspective/compassion from men about rape. That any rape, male or female is ignored or belittled is UNACCEPTABLE.

Yes, he committed a crime by attempting to rob her, but the correct response would be to call the police. Self defense is appropriate, even tying him up until the police got there, just in case for safety reasons. But when you rape someone...that can never be justified and I feel that's a way bigger crime than breaking/entering/stealing. It's so bizarre and I can't fathom why this woman (or anyone) would do that. And yeah, if the genders were reversed, the man would be getting shit doing it. It's sick that these women can laugh at this. It's not laughable, it's more like a WTF why?
[–]Jisano 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I legitimately threw up in my mouth a little.
I want to see what would happen if we linked a story about a female thief being captured and kept as a sex slave by a man. I bet ALL the men would be laughing their asses off (cuz that's a normal reaction to females being raped, right?) and it'd all be ok.
I keep seeing that story all over Reddit just about every other month. The comments almost always agree that rape is never a joke. The women who are laughing are being insensitive. At any rate, I think I read a comment from a repost that showed this story was false. Feel free to research.
[–]VentCo 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Of course we're all laughing at the fact that a criminal got what he deserved. The thing that is so horrible about this is that if it were a woman in the exact same situation, and a male home owner, everyone would be flipping shit.
Double standards.
[–]abovepostisfunnier 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]DavasiaN -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
While I agree male rape is a serious issue that needs attention, it is presumptuous to think the women are laughing at male rape and not the irony that the victim was a burglar robbing her house. I, for one, laughed when I saw the movie Home Alone not because males were being assaulted, but because of the irony that they were burglars.

[–]minibeardeath 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
What specific aspects of the story make this funny? The part where he broke into her house and she (rightfully) kicked him into submission; the part where she tied him to a radiator, drugged him with Viagra, and repeatedly raped him over the course of three days; the part where she gave him gifts, fed him, gave him money, and then released him; or the part where she called him a bastard for calling the cop, as if the $34 and new jeans excused her multiple rapes? I am genuinely curious which part of this is funny. The only part I think might be construed as funny is the fact that she was dumb enough to let him go and expect him not to call the cops.
[–]ialsolovebees -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[+][deleted] -38 points-37 points-36 points 12 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link
To be fair, he did rob her. I'm not saying anyone in this picture is right, but being kept as a sex slave for a woman, for 3 day for robbing someones house, is much better than being shot.
[–][deleted] 34 points35 points36 points 12 years ago* (19 children) | Copy Link
No one really is saying he was right to steal from her, but the fact of the matter is he was still raped and people think it's funny. If a woman tried to steal from a man, failed and was kept as his sex slave, the people who commented would think it was a human rights infraction. But when it's this way, it's hilarious.
Edit: You have a point in saying that he should not have robbed her to begin with. I totally understand that. But no one deserves to be violated in that way for any reason at all.
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
That's true. I'm just saying a lot of other people would have shot him, and be legally allowed to do so. If it were me i would much rather that than be shot.
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Understandable conclusion to reach, but just because something is a lesser evil does not mean it isn't evil. You are welcome to think that way, but I would be willing to bet there are a substantial amount of people who would have it the other way.
If she had shot him, then she would have acted in self-defense. I don't deny her that. But she did something much worse. This was not her right.
[–]ButtonFury 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
If she had shot him, then she would have acted in self-defense.
Correct. The article states that she subdued the man and then tied him up to be used as a sex slave. Her subduing of the man was completely warranted; the acts that followed were not. Had she subdued him and then tortured/murdered him, then we very well may be discussing that instead of rape.
Exactly. I am in no way saying he is absolved of theft, but the fact of the matter is she took matters into her own hands and went beyond her rights. She failed to call the police and she escalated the situation. She is just as much at fault for exacerbating the situation.
Defending yourself is one thing and a permissible one at that. Subduing someone and raping them for 3 days is not.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You have a habit of coming here to attack the MRM and say "this doesn't belong here!" You didn't post here before a month ago and all your posts here seem to be atttacks:

I've noticed that too. New posters coming here just to post that "this article doesn't belong here". What is up with that?
[–]typhonblue 29 points30 points31 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The casual acceptance of the rape of men by women is not something /mr should concern itself with?
I disagree.
[–]oboedude 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Male rape is marginalized. It is not regarded as serious or somber or problematic and that is not fair. The scene from Get Him to the Greek in which Jonah Hill's character is bound and violated is disgusting, but according to the writers of the movie and the general audience- it is uproarious. Prison rape is also hilarious, apparently. BUT- I wonder how important it is that the three commenters are women. Sure, it is a fact so why not include it in the screenshot. I guess I am saying that my perception is that male rape is not taken seriously across both genders. Do the people of Men's Rights perceive women to be the primary perpetrators of male-rape insensitivity?
-gills89
I wonder if it's really important that the commenters are women. These issues could be overlooked by anyone honestly

The casual acceptance of the rape of men by 3 idiots on facebook is not something /mr should concern itself with.
[–]ButtonFury 13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link
The reason I posted this is because I never thought that I would encounter blatant misandry.
[+]POTATO-IN_MY_ANUS -17 points-16 points-15 points 12 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link
And you wanted to encourage misogyny in its place? Why did you have to point out that the commenters were women? What does that matter? Also, the text of the article is too small to read in the image, so all of the context, except the headline is missing.
This post is pretty clearly meant to incite a reaction ("those hypocritical harpies!"), rather than foster a discussion (about why this kind of stuff happens, why people think it's ok to take it lightly and what to do about it).
[–]ButtonFury 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
And you wanted to encourage misogyny in its place?
Not at all. Is that what you were incited with?
Also, what's with all the "potato_in_my_anus" username knockoffs?
[+]POTATO-IN_MY_ANUS -18 points-17 points-16 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, I got kind of upset with those women for a minute, until I remembered that plenty of guys would laugh at this too, and it has nothing to do with them being women.
Also, I don't know what you're talking about - I am the real, original POTATO-IN_MY_ANUS

Yeah, I am the first person to register and use the account POTATO-IN_MY_ANUS, 2 hours ago. What I said was completely accurate and true. What's your point?
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
True. But Buttonfury asked what's with all the "potato_in_my_anus" username knockoffs, and you replied to that with
I don't know what you're talking about
My point wasn't that you aren't the original "POTATO-IN_MY_ANUS", it was that you claimed not to know you were a knock off.

[–]SpawnQuixote 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Let me mansplain it to you:
Women, who consistently lecture men about rape and violence, are hypocrites when these same issues affect males.
[–]POTATO-IN_MY_ANUS -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I am a man, just fyi.
It's hypocritical for society to address rape and violence toward women one way, and toward men another way.
You've never met the women from the post, presumably. You can't know if they "consistently lecture men about rape and violence". Plenty of women don't do that.
Likewise, plenty of men would probably find the story amusing enough to joke about. I don't, but some people have morbid sense of humor.
The point is, we should be focused on the hypocrisy of society, not just women.
[–]thefran -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh, okay. When the women are perpetrators it's the SOCIETY now.
[–]potato1 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is the most sensible and yet down voted post I've seen here in a while.
You are absolutely right, it doesn't belong here. A Facebook screen cap showing three insensitive women demonstrates absolutely nothing and is a colossal waste of time. Breaking: There exists 3 shitheaded women. Behold the startling proof! This is what passes for mens rights discussion around here? And you wonder why this place is considered by many to be a joke at best and a hate site at worst?

IDK man, the dude was none other than a fucking robber... It's hard for me to feel sympathy for people who just take what others work for.
I mean, he admitted he had the intention of robbing the shop, fuck that guy (no pun intended).
I'm not siding with the FB comments tho, it seems like they would laugh at that situation no matter what.
[–]AryoBarzan 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Getting raped in response to robbing a store is what we call "cruel and unusual punishment", so no.
I have a HARD TIME believing that women would be laughing at another women getting raped for WHATEVER reason. I've never ONCE seen a woman laugh at a woman having violence committed against her by a male assailant, regardless of what she did to deserve it.
[–]fran13r -4 points-3 points-2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Cruel and unusual punishment my ass, i have seen people getting their ass beaten to an inch of their life for robbing a store and people would latter praise the owner who did it, but raping, feeding, giving money and a pair of jeans is cruel punishment? Nah, i'm ok with it, he's a fucking robber, if you don't want bad things to happen to you, don't commit crimes, plain and simple.
And with "I'm not siding with the FB comments tho, it seems like they would laugh at that situation no matter what.", i was referring to any female on male rape situation, i know they most probably would get butthurt if a man does it to a woman, which is ok to get butthurt tho, but it's like you guys say, a double standard.
[–]kragshot 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
So, then you're okay with the Mystikal case, right? That woman should have just shut her mouth and took the gang-bang in exchange for not going to jail for robbing Mystikal of $80K, right? After all, she was just a fucking thief; if she hadn't have stolen that money, then none of this would have happened to her, right?
She shouldn't have got all butthurt about the situation right...or perhaps she was "butthurt" because of all the unwanted dicks that went up in her butt....
Wrong is wrong.
[–]fran13r 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
She stole 80k $, is fine by me, i got a weird sense of justice. I would never do that tho, the rape mentality is not my thing, i would just sue her ass and watch her rotting in prison.
But yeah, she shouldn't have got all butthurt about it, she stole a huge amount a money!!!!!! you do not do that, that's not okay. Did she also wen't to prison? please tell me she did.
[–]kragshot 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No. She did not.
In fact, the $80K theft was completely thrown out of the discussion.
That's what the rape card gets you.
